Juvenilia
Being Young
The whole world feels so whole
Having Fun
Like your never getting old
Then one day you think
About your familia
Oh!! With no ink
You painted your own JUVENILIA.

Blue
Blue is so pretty
Blue is so deep
Blue is the color
I see when I sleep
Blue can be light
Blue can be dark
I like the sky blue
I see at the park

Selfie
Mantis girl, all legs and arms,
a mess of open wounds. Too
many mouths open, too many
blank eyes. Femina juvenilia.
A pink heap in front of a secret
room, filled with stuffies and
unread words. No story, just
strings, your body opened like
a bruised pet. You are a shell,
painted but not understood.
You have failed to be immortal....

Juvenilia: the Worst Innocent Poetry I'Ve Penned
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I wrote this poem
just for you
Do you want to go out with me
it's okay if you don't want to
this was a truth or dare
but I like you and that's the truth
If you do want to go with me
meet me at my locker
I'll share my pixie sticks with you

Imagine the Sight of That
In a nursery rhyme there is a fiddling cat
who played while a cow jumped over the moon
Try, if you can, to imagine the sight of that.
And how can a dish run away with a spoon?
I tried to put pajamas on Snowy, my kitty.
Her claws dug into my skin like they were roots.
My pj cat ran away. What a pity.
I should trade her in for Puss In Boots

Pigeon Poo - Juvenilia
Why do pigeon always poo
On the car you’ve polished new
Why do they wait ‘til you’ve gone indoors
Before they mess up all your floors
Maybe it’s a good thing it’s just pigeon poo
A seagull has too much to do
That’s after they’ve taken the stand
To snatch your food from out your hand
When outdoors you must wear a cap
Birds don’t care where they crap
Sorry my juvenile effort

On Fire Island
We stood upon the ripe
Dunes
Looking down upon the shorn
Tops
Of holly trees wading in the
Sunken
Hiatus, splayed between
Ocean
And Great South
Bay.
The lawntrees were
Rippling
In the fervid air. Then
Catlike
We plunged into the cool
Emerald
Arbored depths: Everything is
Green
Like her sunglasses there.
This little poem is another rare piece of juvenilia preserved from my college years at UF (1977-80). ...

Early Poems XXII
These are my early poems, or juvenilia.
Analogy
by Michael R. Burch, circa age 19
Our embrace is like a forest
lying blanketed in snow;
you, the lily, are enchanted
by each shiver trembling through;
I, the snowfall, cling in earnest
as I press so close to you.
You dream that you now are sheltered;
I dream that I may break through.
