I admire the geisha girl’s

Do you think there was a Robin Hood,
and, if so, was he good -
or just a bad rapscallion
on a jet-black stallion?
And after this, to me, you've told,

You Can Hear Them Chatter

what
tantalizing
pecan smile of
the
toucan's bill
a blend of
jet black
red
and
blue feathers
just
a pinch of
peach yellow
upon their chest
and
you can
hear them
chatter
while
they rest

Jet black is the night as
 Jungle feline of stealth
 Jumps on its hapless prey
 Jaws able to crush bones
 Juicy reptile swimming
 Jaguar jumps in water
 Jostling with a caiman

Openly Hidden

No need in frightened flight
to hide in jet black night.

Strange, but to the obvious
many are oblivious.

Although in plainest sight,
some can hide in bright light.

Often, the case is this:
What seems can be what is!

Huge Cats

tiger.. unseen in the bush,
golden black stripes ominous,
beauty ferocious!

panther.. sinuous, jet-black,
moonlit shadow on a bough,
emerald eyes know!

lion.. basking in the sun,
regally maned predator,
the tawny terror!

As Night Deepens

Sijo 4.

I wonder why as night deepens/my heart ponders from the fear
is it because a raven/kept flapping his jet-black wings
flew off cawing in the air/over the moonlight flooded hills

Mary, Mary, You Look Scary

Mary, Mary,
You look scary
In your new costume-
With your pointed hat,
Your jet-black cat
And your old straw broom!

Bonus questions for students:

What is Mary dressed as?

Can you guess which holiday Mary is celebrating?

Crazy Eyes

Crazy eyes
Jet black
Scanning for someone
Searching for something
What does your mind envision?
Do you see me?
Will you ever see me
As more than that?
More than a fleeting memory
And a broken heart
Left in the background
Of your life
