Insomniac Prison

Out of step was I in my insomniac prison, finally breaking out to recapture some of my circadian rhythm.

I stay up all night...
I appear within your dreams
I astral travel...
Hoping I shall cross your mind
Beyond even the astral.

He Is the Miracle

He is the miracle
That made an insomniac sleep
A broken heart dream
A quiet girl sing
With a voice she
Thought she'd lost
Long ago

Stolen Dreams

All sleep is barren,
  the night becomes long

The Muse an insomniac
  —restless until dawn

Brandy Cognac

There once was a stooped man from Pontiac
Who was an old ailing insomniac
He tried pills
Added to ills
He should have been drinking brandy cognac

Insomniac

Nestled justly,
the thief he slumbers
sprawled spreadeagled
upon my bed.
By witching hour
his deafening snore
drives one to ...

Lumbering lethargy.

Night’s restless rodent,

I just nod off all day long.

                                           I am nocturnal.

If 2:00 a.m. is still
  What is 2:30?
  What is 3:00?
    ~ Even stiller...

Outside it's stellar
  Stars whizzing by
yet inside it's stiller
  take a painkiller
    ~ but why

Insomniac Musings

~Based loosely on The Boyfriend by C. D. Wright~

sun setting on the city
and stars start to rise

a tired yawn escapes
but insomnia creeps in

essential oils fill the air
her lover snores softly

A Battle of An Insomniac

I have been awake for awhile,
Trying to obey my insomniac instinct.
Sleepy eyes marching with thunder;
Till my thoughts perish,
I have to hark and wander.
So stay tuned dear sleep,
As insomnia ain't a sweetmeat.

Last Night In Rome

It is meaningless to count sheep
in the capitals that never sleep.
Where’re the earplugs, my last resort?

On the roads where I used to roam,
memories of me now roam. Rome,
will you spot you’re one insomniac short?

Many bright lights toil at night,
keeping company with ghosts.
Days waste like lightning striking
or as unbroken green lamps.
But in cloisters of darkness,
Promethean mind rains fires --
illuming the slumbered world.

Thoughts who won’t hush, they tell me
the mountains dance with praises
breaking through the mist, I see
splendid breath of still gazes
welcome to hope, bow your knee
see how His love amazes
soon slumber shall set you free

I am she who craves sweet sleep.
Then comes a sickening creep
who stalks me all through the night.
Into my mind he does seep.
Great unease I cannot fight.
Eyes closed, at blackness I stare.
Stealing my dreams, he's still there.

Dark circles 'neith bloodshot eyes,
problems increasing in size.
Oh, how I can empathize.
Constantly, she racks her brain.
Her grip, she fights to retain.
She drops off, won't go insane...

Just then, her alarm clock cries.

Ring My Bell

I sit here waiting for you with my heart on my sleeve lost in the wilderness of dreams I am an insomniac without chimes Come ring my bell and I will let you in Love June 26, 2021

Insomnia

I cannot sleep through the night,
I am an insomniac,
All my thoughts come to life,
And stab me in the back,
I try to think like normal people
But all that comes to mind
Is that we are ticking time bombs
In the hands of Father Time.

Premium Member Egomaniacs and Heart Attacks

No one likes an egomaniac
or welcomes pain in their sacroiliac

    And what kind of monomaniac
      enjoys a sudden heart attack

Yet it's my opinion, if not established fact
~ life's worse than death for an insomniac

Hush, Insomniac

slowly read a bedtime story to yourself,

hum, to the rhythm of your breathing,

           a nostalgic lullaby,

whisper soft a happy thought to your mind,

and soon streams of drowsy dreams

          will flow so gently by.

Afraid To Breathe

The tick tock of the clock
Never stops
In quiet trepidation
My heart doesn't beat, it knocks
Insomniac and mind tripping
I see my life slipping
I want to breathe in air
Never again be scared
But the only thing that clings to me
Is constant worry and despair

Comatose

Comatose: inspired by Insomniac by Maya Angelou, for Joann’s Copycat contest

There are some morns when
Sleep conquers,
Heavy and masterful.
And all the tricks
That I groggily try
To shake it from my head
Are futile as raising the dead,
And much less hopeful.

In the darkness
Nothing but a ticking clock
So many looping thoughts
Oh, to quiet my shaking
Many moments sitting here spinning
Not all of them have happened yet
It’s just below reality, lingering
Always a breath away from forever
Come to me dreamer, pull me under.

              An insomniac awake,
with nights in a real mess !
             Oh, one can try many things;
    music, meditation, baths,
                   writing poetry, praying,
          with minds astir and racing.
Or give up and do housework !
