Notes About The Poem

For Nette Onclaud's In Honor Of An Ode Poetry Contest

An Insomniac

I am she who craves sweet sleep.
Then comes a sickening creep
who stalks me all through the night.
Into my mind he does seep.
Great unease I cannot fight.
Eyes closed, at blackness I stare.
Stealing my dreams, he's still there.

Insomnia sure steals all our dreams. Staring into the dark counting sheep is indeed miserable. Beautiful ode. All the best, dear Andrea.

Wow. This is a sure winner. I love it. I did that one too but mine isn't nearly as wonderous. Love this. God bless you Andrea. Love, Gina

I know what it is to have issues falling asleep, at least if you compare it to how my husband can hit the pillow instantly and sleep as fast. I am so jealous over that.

When I saw insomniac was an option I was surprised. I've always thought ode meant gratitude, praise, all things good said so I'm learning my definition was incorrect, an ode can be a 'venting' towards someone/something, too, it appears. I also choose insomniac because of Tim's ADHD but only posted one for Craig today. Yours is frustration, imagery delivered, plus true, you real life insomniac, you.

I thought the title was insomnia. So I changed line 1 to start off as the insomniac!
