Mellow Gloam of Autumn

Lemon hues drape an autumn- sky
Mellow its crawl across eve's wake -
Near a lagoon's edge, tiny shadows appear
Inviting a rhapsody from birds' drool
Where pines, maples play to honor a season's gloam.

River of Stars

Do you see it
Flowing across the stone bed
Glinting everlight in the misty gloam

Ever moving, ever flowing
It's sapphire waters rich with love
Setting sun , glowing water

Like a river of stars
From my heart
Out of me
Into you
Its waters glowing like fire in the night

June, Linger On

O June   linger on with your youthful charm;
Fireflies and evergreen still gloam to disarm
Woods brimming lushly , perfuming the air…

Let springtime flaunt this elegance so rare!

Unnerved

UNNERVED

a fresh grave, gravelly dug,
collar gathered and put upon.

the doghouse, below the gloam,
godforsaken with a gaping hole.

guard of gray-glass, at midnight,
hardly hinders gathering ghosts.

unnerved fear grips my sleep,
gangly bedroom curtain grieves.

Umbrella

Find protection under its dome
As those raindrops come pouring down
When the scorching sun starts to roam
 Find protection under its dome
  A parasol beneath the gloam
When those rainy days come around
   Find protection under its dome
As those raindrops come pouring down

Summer's End

We knew we couldn't take the summer home
in globes of flakes just like a winter snow.
As falling sunlight faded into gloam

we stood upon the beach for one last show
of tangerine and seafoam in a poem
until our dreams had no place left to go.

We knew we'd never be this young again,
but prayed the glow would stay until the end.

Out Past the Breakers

What would you say if you lived to a hundred?
What bits of wisdom to pass to your kindred?
More time at work, I assure you it ain’t;
Precious to Him, the death of His saints.
The kingdom’s not open to blood or to flesh.
Fear not the twinkling when all is made fresh.
Out past the breakers, press on through the gloam.
There He awaits; be precious, be known.

Nature's Chime

 A note rides on a Sonnet's rhyme
And travels on to Shakespeare's quill
A bird sings with nature's chime
Its melody fluttering in the sunlight still

Inspiration takes us to starry skies
 Where the seven muses roam
 Luna then begins its rise
 and glimmers in the gloam

On the shore the waves repeat
As palm trees sway in the breeze
Dancing to verses in a poem's beat
As a song sails on the seas

Back Against The Sea

Now and then the ocean is a blur
in footprints so quickly nothing, spurred

against that wild channeling —
God, she took my memory,

her baggy tides overrun,
seaweed returned in the surf, serendipitous stun,

How to follow you in your deep sea tomb —
Sometimes I breathe in water to breathe in you,

the gray ocean like a rod —
my prayers stopped time, God, God —

there floating within the sea fog's gloam,
the buoys, and a girl's cheeks that froze.

Eventide

There is a small piece of the world
The color of mother of pearl
As soft as the smooth inner shell
Where the humblest hermits dwell

And the sound of the blood’s rush and the roar
Is the calm, sleepy shush of the shore
And the faint scent of sagebrush in bloom
Spans both cool beach and hot desert dunes

And the tumbleweeds, driftwood and gloam
On the eventide, they always come home
And the stars in the sky and the stars in the sea
On the eventide, they come home to me.

Deranged

to the tune of Home on the Range In the woods, in the gloam There’s a muttering gnome Like his mind, he’s wandered away And he should be interred Yes, the thought has occurred But the jailers would not last a day Big daddy’s deranged He’s losing it more every day He makes up strange words And it all sounds absurd But the kids do not care anyway ————— Some of the many happy verses Vivian was subjected to singing and walking in the woods.

Sunset Dreams

Dazzling flecks of gold fall lightly from flight, joy and grace spun from translucent silk spools. The sun like orange sherbert melts from my sight, resplended in a rich robe of fine jewels. A cooling sky bathes in soft sunlit pools. Honeysuckle blooms on the horizon. Cotton clouds yawn, puffing over the sun. Taste the sweet dreams of her ripened peach gloam. From Heaven, kisses goodnight have begun. The sun, now spent, sleeps so bright stars can roam.
