Art deco dictates a strong womanly arrogance
Her orange hair accented her headdress true
I saw her in a vision dream, of course only once
She parades herself in a painting, looking haughty and new....

Pristine and neat
Elaborate straight staid lines
Fussy in a controlled 1940’s way
Flashing her art deco individuality
Delighted to be drawn at this time
By the artist who feels gleefully satisfied with his work....

In autumn, leaves show their true colors; personalities from God’s palette. Yellow, gold, red, browns and Vandyke orange; pigments bold. I press them in a book for deco-paging; natures art!

Vogue magazine cover is exquisite -woman drawn in a gorgeous way
Art deco magnificence, but who was the artist in 1942?
It is sad tha eighty years later none of us know.
It could have been a relative, but that knowledge is lost....

Premium Member Hailing Art Deco Era
Art Deco with her thin women
Pointed noses
Uppity attitudes
Elegant manner of dress

Art Deco with her square jaws
Curly ques made just so
Her flapper fringes
rivaling her outrageous hemlines

Art Deco with her ultra-modern ways
so shocking in the forties
when we listened to our shows on the radio
without seeing visuals...

Premium Member Sassy and Sultry From the Twenties
Sassy and sultry from the twenties
Not these twenties, those twenties.
She shows an arrogance unseen for a century.
I am in love with her pearled quail feathered headdress.
Vibrant and alive, she wows me in the best of ways.
Her art deco owl oversees her unique awesomeness.
I feel pride as her artist. She is the ultimate in sass!...

I Remember
I remember art deco things,
  I remember peaches and wine

I remember sirens in the night,
  I remember waving goodbye

I remember the boardwalk on a cloudy day,
I remember an elephant in pink

I remember the fire engine returning
  I remember my father—I think

Premium Member Ode To Colorful Flapper
frog came in hot off a mountain top
buzzing the clouds; would he ever stop?
so colorful! we exclaimed as he got near.
He was full of vim, vigor, sass, truly no fear.

He matched his plane – red, white and blue
With accents of gold, turquoise, green too.
We had never seen such a frog or plane before.
was he the real deal or straight out of someone’s lore?...

Premium Member Avant Garde Prism Rimas Dissolutas
Coloring clouds with sparkling sapphire
filling them in with a clear blue sky;
Seamless strokes paint a glittery glow,
a happy thought’s an art deco gem;

Catching the light as if bathed in fire
nature’s potent muse pleases the eye;
Throwing a smile on every shadow
they brighten with fresh optimism;

A cyclone that leaves an all time low
gives way to an avant-garde prism....

Premium Member My Cousin Sadie
She sits in a provocative way, knowing it.
Shiny red fedora perched down over her eyes.
An open dress shows many gorgeous assets.
Headlights glaring, soft legs casually crossed.

Looking like a doll from Mattel, not Art Deco.
I wonder if she is getting ready to dance or sing?
Could be both, she is multi-talented, capable of surprises.
I watch my cousin proudly, ready to give loud applause....

Lay Down
. for public domain

Set fire to our mothers' graves,
frenetic genetics is all the rave,
give "Yesterday" a parting wave,
reeling feelings now enslaved.

Exchange a useless past for "Now",
the Broken Tablets, the Golden Cow.
Feel the breeze, the chill, the bone,
bow to Nothing, burn the throne.

Low chants that leave no hollow echo,
betoken the trim of New Age deco.
Holding flames against the rain,
condemned to repeat, we start again....

Premium Member Make Your Life a Masterpiece
What brush stroke best expresses your life?
What art form best reflects you?
What style of painting shows all that you are,
The honest and deep and the true?

Are you a whim with an Impressionist on show,
Or are you a Baroque sort of real,
Or are you the fun of a Contemporary paint,
Or is Abstract the way that you feel?

From Art Deco to Nouveau to Goth,
To the Pop Art of Andy Warhol,
I wonder what art best describes who you are,
Your thoughts, your mind and your soul…...

Premium Member Art Deco Costumes Why Not
Let’s make art deco Halloween costumes this year, she said.
What are they? I asked. I do not like spending a lot of extra time.
Do a little research, she suggested. You’ll figure it out.
The easiest costume I saw was probably for a flapper.

I put fringe around the bottom of a short straight nightie.
Fashioned a headdress out of a piece of dog leash braid.
I felt like Julie Andrews in the movie Thoroughly Modern Millie
Except she probably had not worn Sketchers, but what the heck....
