Bringing the Curtain Down

I offered you everything;
you took it all

Leaving me nothing
—no last curtain call

Premium Member Last curtain call

Who knew the exact time and how
The day came for my play's final bow?
The span was compact
I ran for just one act
The encore - now as sacred cow

Life
Is a caricature of death
It shows its jagged jaws
While offering a sweet embrace
It is the bliss between light and dark
Before the final curtain call

Curtain Call

Sitting here thinking
about the past
regret for time mislaid

What’s done is gone
all swans in song
— tomorrow’s yesterday

Premium Member Final Curtain Call

My ink is running dry
and I want to cry.

My muse isn't well
only time can tell.

It is on life support
all plans must abort.

No Curtain Call

As we age
death
reclaims us
Stealing
our youth
and then our hope

In the ground
where
memories rot
Willing us
nothing
—but the dark

(Dreamsleep: August, 2023)

Slowly releasing its grip
The ice recedes
Mud warms in a faint sun
Jonquils peek through snow
Robins open the summer house
Winter chuckles
Spring awaits her curtain call

Rest Easy, Captain

“Rest Easy, Captain”

Christopher Plummer, Captain, friend
You’ve heard the final curtain call.
Gracefully, fade to black, the end
Rest easy ‘neath your burial pall.

Premium Member Dawn Dusk Blush

Listen to poem:
At dawn sky glows fiery red;
    at dusk embers re-ignite.
Red in morning is a warning;
red at sunset a curtain call.
Does the sky blush to reveal
what we have done to our Planet?

Death strikes brief
Cast of grief

Curtain call chill
Weary works will
Sheer silence still

Prune primal prance
Dreary death dance
Cheerless crude chance

Premium Member Slipin' Away

We all have our shelf life
Stamped the best before,
Somewhere in the celestial book
Never to be revealed
Till the event.
Sometimes the rule is broken
And the terminal is a curtain call
Of a life slipin’ away:

woven into midnights braid
sunsets goodnight kiss charade
bowing low for curtain call
draped in heavens endless shawl
warmth exhaled in cooling rise
silent wings of butterflies

Premium Member After the Curtain Call

Farewell my love
the final bow takes flight,
in dreams we shall unite
where stage lights
do shimmer bright!

Within the sacred place
our shadows dance with grace,
as we become light as lace--
then shall we embrace
death's everlasting space.

MOMENTS 13 CURTAIN CALL

Not much to say
Enjoy the play
Each day can say

Face your own fear
Both front and rear
Treasure each fear

Feel how you feel
Heal with goodwill
Stillness frees feel

Premium Member Sleep

Late night breeze,
Cold air mist;
Feel dark squeeze,
Float sleep gist.

Night time stars,
Spark dream swirls;
Not so far,
Deep touch twirls.

Fall more deep,
Plunge and fall;
Fly with sleep,
Curtain call.

Maple trees on both sides of Nineteenth Street
		closed down the evening sky.
In a slight uncovered slice a single star
was made to burn the brighter
		by this focusing framework.
I wonder, were your drapes drawn not quite tight
to burn your beauty on the night?

Curtain Call

Reality falls in beads of sweat
I can't make my heart align with my head
No compromise will be enough
To bring out the best in both of us
Someone had to draw the line
Amongst the chaos of warning signs
But even the bravest soldier falls
Every act has its curtain call.

Flash in a dash
A fatal clash

Win, lose or draw
A certain flaw

Hope feels so raw
In dying flaw

Knowing brings chill
A drowning fill

Feel fancy flee
The loss of glee

At curtain call
Old drama falls

Back

And the chorus echoes back
A thousand raised shouts

To the pitter-pink staccato rhythm
The e-journal gets passed on

And Maestro's changed the score
Crying 'cause the celestial performers shone back for a curtain call

Stars erupting into applause shining taking extra time

Premium Member New Day a New One-Act Play

Night looms day, black croons white to bloom
As new day dawns, expectant of curtain call
But old cast in same play rerun doomed
To reel off the same old B-grade stuff
Unless you dawn awake before morn
And draft new play, and fledge fresh cast
A new chapter, a new one-act play baked afresh each day

Theater

the curtain up
the stage is set
the paint still wet
on props
orchestra tunes
starting soon
excitement in my heart
a tragedy, a comedy
a script of drama and love
lines rehearsed
totally immersed
a "Tony" award for sure
final curtain call
still enthralled
as you play
for an audience
of two

Benito Mussolini was known to folks in Italo as Il Duce.

But they became disenchanted and hanged him with a noosey!

He was strung upside down with Clara Petacci his moll!

'Twas an ignominious finale for his closing curtain call!

Feathers, meant to soar
    propel their bearers evermore
  gliding, coasting, turning over
    Acrobats, sky-high rovers

  Sadly though, some feathers fall
float to earth, their curtain call
  Prithee, pick them up
                       by yonder willow
    finished weeping ~ sequestered pillow

Ocean Dancing

She makes her way
to the edge of the ocean
She likes to dance
to the sound of the waves
Bringing to mind
summer emotions
Keeping her on
this side of sane

The stage is set
with surf and sand
Her curtain call
the rising sun
No better day
this side of heaven
Than when she dances
by the ocean
