Just thinking of you
causes roses to bloom
The way you move whisks away

Heroes fly
by plane and car.
They live in homes with families.
Costumes at the ready; capes to
soar with up high.
Fighting the injustice.

There were three little boys at a show
They hadn't wanted to go
The show was terrific
The costumes horrific
Making the dead difficult to know
It's Trick or Treak once more
Begging for sweet treats at the door
Halloween is here
Nothing to fear
Costumes are made up as folklore
There once was a Halloween party
All of the costumes there were naughty
I tried to be cute
Wearing my birthday suit
And won the prize for costume most gaudy
children in costumes
excitement in the cold air
trick or treat night smiles
laughter heard on the street
children hurry door to door
footsteps in fresh snow
A madrigal
a parable
for our lives
drama
animated
costumes
sophisticated
chorus
elevated
love
dreamed about
giggled about
wept about
nothing done about
Halloween's here! It's the end of summer
Costumes, it seems, just keep getting dumber
I'm fixing the kitchen sink
And my wife said, "Let me think,
Pull up your pants or go as a plumber"
Our visit to Canada was all it could be.
We've seen Niagara Falls and the mighty maple tree.
We've seen the Natives in costumes red and blue,
But we still haven't seen an ice blocked igloo !
We’ve reached the time for trick or treating,
In costumes adorned for each meeting,
But Covid restriction
Considered prediction
Sad, this year no Halloween greeting!
Syllables 9 , 9, 6, 6, 9
Their flashy words so rhetorical
Nothing new, just all historical
Words pregnant with deceit
Costumes mailed, in receipt
Unmasked, see... most are identical

Haunted houses
an arrow through the skull
laughing witches on broomsticks
leering black cats
Orange pumpkins with fiery eyes
wild costumes
Every scream frightens
every breath electrifies
Now~~ BOO!
Candy purchased in bags
Confections made at home
Chicks wear corsair costumes
Caboodles of children come
Cachinnation long gone
Candidly say to friends
Confit carrots given
With every religion…
to share in the blame
Masking out God,
in costumes of shame
Seeking to own
what they can’t understand
A covetous folly
—a heavenly sham
(Villanova Pennsylvania: August, 2019)
I'm short and most costumes don't fit
Halloween found me in a snit
But I have my answer now
I just comb my long hair down
Add glasses and I'm Cousin It

Sleep Tight
all his heroes wore costumes at night
wrapped around all their muscles so tight
his chances grew slim
at an outcome so grim
when his costume exposed – cellulite

blooms mass in a vase
a vivid get together
days in sun recalled
wild hours of weather
when they were younger so green
remembering scenes
sunset blooms laughing
comparing lovely costumes
in a fragrant room
Samhain
ancient Celtic festival
marks end of summer
beginning of winter
Celtics believe spirit of dead walk the earth during Samhain
Celebrates them with costumes, bonfires and dancing
The beginning of Halloween
soon we shall all be free
of all upholstered costumes
and all manners of miners' boots
that infect us with winter edema
and puff us up like flu troubled ostrich
to become angels again
In our cute adidas spikes .
I can’t believe its Halloween
These are the worst costumes
That this world has ever seen
Those that see are the victims
An experience it’s really been
To be here on this Halloween

Many Ziegfeld Girls started out wearing costumes so fine.
We did not know them, but they were gorgeous and danced in a line.
This photo is amazing from 1941.
It has Hedy Lamar, Judy Garland and Lana Turner, what fun!
