Remains, though tedious walked
Of one Time-beat, droopy
For what of its sound was thrown up
A neighbourhood, joy-free.
table filled with joy
perfectly browned plump beauty
young and old hold hands
memories of times long past
as if by Norman Rockwell
beware atomic attack!
1950s civil defense
duck and cover drills
Bert the turtle
showed us the way
flash of light - duck and cover!
I feel it tugging
Hanging on - It must be huge!

Haiku - For Sara Kendrick's "A Pleasant Childhood Memory" Contest
salon perfect hair
expensive haute couture clothes
kitchen seldom used
maids always kept house spotless
we were polite ornaments
childhood memory
grandpa smoked all his life
throwing butts in yard
lucky strikes he loved
and a beer on occasion
that's a farmer's life
I still recall how I once felt,
a young boy, as I knelt.
There were pigs, cows, and chickens.
I laughed like the dickens
before a board of felt.
We were young sweet boys
playing in forest with dry and fresh wood
no one ever climbed so high
The hero among us, left her beloved ones with zero son
My grandma in her garden
picking peas, beans and carrots
and digging up potatoes -
roast chicken for lunch.

So,
one
of the
things I
miss the
most about
my childhood
is teleporting; do
you remember going
to sleep on the sofa and
then waking up in your bed
POND
looks fun
after school
chasing silly boys
sitter mom watches me
scraping my knee on sharp rocks
“Tomboys get hurt less than some girls”
When I saw the slide
in the children’s park,
the child inside me ordered
“Go, climb and slide”
I did so;
Due to my age,
it was a bit slow flow.
but a great show
LEAVES
cascade
for the Earth
Fall's salutations
swept into frail mountains
laughing, we dive; they crumble
"brittle blades breathes a vibrant life"
It was the little house
Where Mom and Dad
Weren’t always angry
Love was there
In the small house
It was our home
And long before
The bigger houses
The money fights
Or the divorce…
A small figure
In flannelette nightie
Left alone and defenceless
In a world of rejection;
Stands,crying pitifully
With arms outstretched
Reaching for the hand of love-
Only to be denied.
Looking Glass
Poem by Panagiota Romios
brings back memories
haze of cotton candy days
plus limitless play

Alice Walker, famed novelist of Cloured Purple with this nineteen lined 'The Old Men Used to Sing' evokes a childhood memory 'conversational styled poem' using two or three words short staccato sentences
My kite’s white string drifts.
Sunlight shines through its canvas -
leaf, shell, feather. Wisp of cloud.
Up, away, lost, gone -
floating from my childhood hands.
They grasp air, clutching nothing.
A scuffling in the chimney,
Scary for an eight-year old.
Could it be the Bogey Man,
Coming down to eat me up
Or maybe just a nightmare?
Trembling, I switch on the light.
Oh! Hello Father Christmas
I loved jumping waves on our
family vacations to
random seashores in my youth.
Once in my early childhood,
it was sunny as we drove;
then when we got to the beach . . .
clouds collected; the sky wept.
childhood summers
pop beneath mischievous feet
bubbles tar my toes
sticky steps pull up dry grass
feed for blackened sheep and soles

Ozark Mountain trails my small bare feet once knew
where whippoorwills stitched dusk with trilling song.
The hills held dusk and my dreams in shades of pine blue
and taught my heart where quiet souls belong.
Finger dipping; in a jar
Peanut butter soothed my taste
Yet, when the blur first begun
I remember those lights- still
Strange faces surrounding thee
And when I awoke, just then
Twenty stitches sewn my palm
As a childhood memory, was told I was spoiled
Not a care in the world but inside was turmoil
Heard neighborhood whispers
Because of nine older sisters
Must be effeminate but their accusations I foiled
Three pancakes mom gave
One I save ... your lunch box fell
Two fills my stomach
