Death of Warm Days
i have now
faced
the bitterness
of winter,

its breath
icy and cold,

ceremonies
abandoned,
i watch
from my window

and see
the death
of
warm days....

A Night With a Shaman
On a northern night,
In an ojibway village.

The Shaman,
Shared his ceremonies,
With me.

He let me in,
On sacred secrets.

Not because,
I am native.
But,
Because,
I was worthy....

Old Soldiers
OLD SOLDIERS

The dead have vast monuments begotten in stone
The living have last moments forgotten, alone

The sound of marching fades in ceremonies
Replaced by new young legs for new cemeteries...

Ceremonies
In
just-spring
this year,
the world was not
mud-luscious nor
puddle-wonderful,
but dry,
the stark trees
bare and clacking in the wind
above the brown lawns
and fissured earth,
the land trod
by old men in cracked leather boots,
coughing hoarse whispers under leaden skies,...

Premium Member Crow Chief and His Headdress
Crow chief adorned with the whitest eagle feathers
Brought to him piecemeal by tribal elders and hunters
Constructed in a loving way by wise women of the tribe
Worn with pride at evening council fires and ceremonies
Eagle headdress striking fear in enemies of Crow
Giving him an extra boost when they were on the warpath...

Premium Member Seasons of Life
Dawn of spring,
Birds on green trees,
Gardens are blooming
Smiles and babies;

Noon of summer,
Sunshine in blue skies,
Brides are smiling
Love and ceremonies;

Sunset of autumn,
Painters near the sea,
Colors are falling
Silver and memories;

Night of winter,
Darkness in the city,
Smoke is rising
Tears and stories....

Premium Member A Happy Minor Holiday
A happy minor holiday
  That's what Chanukah was
'Till its proximity to Christmas
   gave it an American buzz

In days of old, we lit the candles
Spun the dreidel** for mere pennies --
Now with ceremonies in the public square
   and lavish presents, oh-so-many

Chanukah's theme of dedication
   ~ Does there remain any?

** a dreidel is Yiddish for a spinning top...

This Date
This date is seared upon the brain
And there it always will remain.
No matter what you’d like to bet,
You won’t (and never should) forget.

The ceremonies on TV
No longer feel required to see
And yet, the mind can’t help relive
An act so many can’t forgive.

The bright blue sky today reminds
Us of the fact that sorrow binds
For whether we were there or not,
Our hearts all share an empty spot....

The World Today
The world today

The world is in a position of extinction of the masses
No one can cloak this so the super powers kill lower classes
Another name would be genocide deliberate civilian tragedies
Words are used like uprisings and liberation rebel alliances
When the real words are freedom fighters that live amongst dictator armies
This should be a time for revolution instead we stand by and watch ignominies ceremonies....

Recorded: Lost Thoughts
In the silence of night,
They roam around in full flight.
Whispers of memories,
Dancing in dream ceremonies.

Slipping away from my grasp,
Like sand grains in hourglass.
They fade like moon at night,
Leaving behind a trace of Silverlight.

I Chase them through the long corridors,
But they are evanescent, leaving the doors.
I try to grab them, a very faint smell,
And those faints landed on this page.

Life Is a Stage
Life is a stage.. You choose the character.. You choose the stage..
You choose and live the life of the character on stage.. Many characters exist.
You experiance all of the characters.. You experience the outcomes of the play.

What will happen? You decide.. The stage belongs to you.. Only you..
You are the master of your very own ceremonies..
It is your journey.. Only you create your destination..
Destination: Unlimited.....

Watching the Olympics
Watching the Olympics,
Streaming live or on TV,
Is quite thrilling and amazing,
All that it’s supposed to be.

The stories and performances
Are poignant and exciting;
The ceremonies and the medals
Psyching and uniting.

Despite the talk of Zika
And the crime on Rio’s streets,
The competition’s given us
Some television treats.

So play on, all you athletes;
We’re in awe of what you do
And are grateful that what you achieve
Is there for us to view....

Premium Member Wetlands Rule In Australia
Kakadu Wetlands is home to three million waterbirds
From May to October it houses the comb-crested jacana
Jabirk, egrets and brolga also take their respite here
Macquarie Marshes are used by the Wayilwan people.

They use the Macquarie for burial grounds and ceremonies.
Interconnecting lagoons and channels of Mareeba are bird-friendly.
They give sanctuary to the Australian pelican and crested tern.
Also the threatened home-southern bell frog. Wetlands rule!...

September 10th
No one thinks September 10th
When looking back in time,
Because, on the 11th
Was the world’s most shocking crime.

Tomorrow there’ll be ceremonies
Honoring the dead,
But sometimes, what I focus on’s
The day before instead…

When things went on as usual
And no one had a clue
That life would never ever
Be the life that we once knew.

Before and after sums it up;
Mixed in with thoughts of sorrow,
My mind goes out to those who never
Doubted their tomorrow....

Premium Member Memorial Day
Many men and women have lost their lives in war,
Engaging in battles far and wide,
Making it safe for you and I.
On this day each year, we take the time to,
Remember their sacrifice.
Invocations will be offered,
At ceremonies proffered,
Laying wreaths and decorating graves.

Duty bound heroes gave their all.
A grateful nation pauses to reflect,
Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The Master of Ceremonies
What a privilege! What a treat!
My thumbs are thumbs-up thumbing
Because today, in “Cabaret,”
On stage was Alan Cumming.

Born to play this role as M.C.
Of the Kit Kat Klub,
If he were sick, I’d hate to be
The guy called in to sub.

From wicked grin to dimpled smirk
To knowing, coyish wink,
He let us in all on all the jokes,
Delighting in the kink.

Though “Cabaret” has been produced
For years on loads of stages,
I’m oh-so-lucky that I saw
The M.C. for the ages!...

Prince Philip
He didn’t make 100
So there’ll be no birthday fest
But the Windsor Castle Chapel
Is where he will lie at rest.

Prince Philip died at 99;
The flags will fly half-mast,
With ceremonies more subdued
Than in pre-Covid past.

The Queen and all her subjects
Will join in to mourn the Duke,
The public told to stay away,
Though not with much rebuke.

The question that’s on all our minds,
The answer far from clear,
Is whether Harry and his wife
Will buck up and appear....
