This Date

This date is seared upon the brain And there it always will remain. No matter what you’d like to bet, You won’t (and never should) forget. The ceremonies on TV No longer feel required to see And yet, the mind can’t help relive An act so many can’t forgive. The bright blue sky today reminds Us of the fact that sorrow binds For whether we were there or not, Our hearts all share an empty spot.

I remember it well, watching the news as it happened, too terrible to comprehend. As a child, I was told to remember Pear Harbor; let us not forget this. Thanks for the write—the tribute! Ken

Your poem is a beautiful way to honor and remember those who lived and died and the first responders who are still paying the price with health problems and facing death. Kudos for writing this lovely tribute to that fateful day we would all like to forget, but never will! xxoo

Like "Arbeit macht frei", I suspect brands on one's soul survive reincarnation. Aloha! Rico

Many of us will never forget where we were when we heard the news, Ilene. For months I tried to locate an old friend who worked in the towers, fearing he had perished. But he didn't. He missed work that day. Can you imagine how that feels for him? As awful as it is, we have to remember this day to make sure it never happens again. Awesome writing, as always, Irene. Hugs, Carolyn

An earnest and direct acknowledgment of the loss we all felt, and still feel, Ilene. Well done.
