Prince Philip

He didn’t make 100
So there’ll be no birthday fest
But the Windsor Castle Chapel
Is where he will lie at rest.

Prince Philip died at 99;
The flags will fly half-mast,
With ceremonies more subdued
Than in pre-Covid past.

The Queen and all her subjects
Will join in to mourn the Duke,
The public told to stay away,
Though not with much rebuke.

The question that’s on all our minds,
The answer far from clear,
Is whether Harry and his wife
Will buck up and appear.

I guess we've got our answer. Harry's there. Meghan's dodged a bullet -- this time. :) gw

It’s on the news that Harry is preparing to come back for his grandfather’s funeral, not so Meghan as she’s with child. It’s to be hoped there’s a reconciliation between the family members. Belle

I haven't kept up on the drama between Harry/Meghan and the royal family (just heard nasty remarks were made and didn't investigate further). I would think any grandson should attend the funeral of their grandfather, if it is possible. In any case ... Philip seemed to have lived an extraordinary life, regardless of what one thinks of the concepts of royalty in our modern day. Nice tribute.

Reminds me of Lindsay Laurie's, "Who wants to live to be 100? Everyone who is 99!" Megan does not need another opportunity to emote in the UK; no Oscars there! Aloha! Rico

Well I know Harry would like to go but it just depends on whether or not "her ladyship" will allow it. She leads him around by the nose and I don't think it matters much to her that his grandfather has died. Good Write. God Bless, JB

Nice poem, Ilene. I would think the family could put aside animosity for purposes of honoring their father and grandfather and the Queen!

Good poem about a very infamous day throughout the British Commonwealth.

Such a sad day, there are so many programmes on the tv and radio I am learning so much about things he did out of the limelight, he was a remarkable man and a real support to the Queen during good times and bad. I dont think Megan will go with being pregnant but I expect Harry will go, what sort of reception he will get after the oprah interview will be interesting to see but I think their behaviour towards the queen and Royal family beggars belief she is one heck of an actress:-( hugs Jan xx
