What To Be
I wrote a note of what to be,
Sparkling kindness is for free,
Be calm and smiling too,
Peaceful days for me and you,
Be happy campers, you see,
This is what we all should be!...

under the night sky

Camping
Logs burn
and flames blaze,
licking at the wind,
spastic and crazed.
Sparks jump
and smoke trails,
clogging lungs
upon inhales.
Campers laugh
and begin to croak
some silly song
about the forest folk.
Trees sway
from roots to branches,
hovering quietly
as the fire dances....

Brave Little Campers
Brave little campers
my how bold you are,
sleeping out under
the stars on a summer
night so dear, taking in
cool sweet air on a delightful evening
until a crack of thunder brings a down pour
among you, chasing you back inside
to your warm beds.

Into the Night
Darkness is born into the night,
stars decorate the sky with their light.
Moonbeams glare through my window bright.
Hoot owls echo into the night,
as they take flight,
into the night.
Campers gather around the camping site,
singing songs that echo into the night.
The cold wind blows,
as the walnuts roast,
over the open fire....

The Day Lily
The magnificent perianths
Of the Day Lilies with their six
Spreading bright orange arms (funnel-formed)
Fixed in their clustered colonies
Absent of any luring scent
Still attracts the bees
And the poets aesthetic eyes.
Oblique, penetrating sunrays
Shine through the high canopied trees
Directly onto their blossoms
Seemingly glowing like embers
In a campers dying campfire;
And not unlike the fire, remain
Briefly beautiful and then die....

Summer Cooking
Form ground beef into patties.
The grill is fired up!
Add potatoes wrapped in foil.
Hot dogs too of course!
Save room for S’mores,
the campers’
treat.
A side dish is pre-prepared:
macaroni and
eggs, cooled, are mixed with cubed cheese,
chopped celery and
onions and tuna
with mayo.
Yum!
