Never Had a Childhood

I had to grow up fast,
I had to learn to take care of myself,
I keep up in school,
I cook, clean, keep us alive,
My mom comes home and sleeps,
My dad doesn’t care,
I watch my brother and sister,
And I still have time for myself,
I’ve never had a childhood,
Can’t you tell?

I
don’t want
to call you
my grandmother.
You appear human,
You are just a machine,
programmed to act like nana.
Electric flows through you, not blood.
Brother and sister love you. I don’t.

Based on the short story “I Sing the Body Electric” by Ray Bradbury

The family of six sat together for Sunday dinner
Their devices in their laps, so they did not have to speak.
Grandma tried a couple of times, then went back to her word games.
Brother and sister were playing text war.
They looked up and grinned at each other.
A new wave, a new way, the 2022 family.

All Alone By Ronald S Porter

momma and daddy, dead and gone
brother and sister too
no sons, no daughters to carry on
i sit here and wait, alone
for Death has followed my trail
since the sound of my first wail
rose to meet a cold, rainy morn
no matter how many i've loved or known
i'll die as i lived and, was born
on my own... all alone

Grace

Is my mother coming?
Yes, she’ll be here today.
Is my brother and sister coming?
Very soon they say.
Is my father coming?
He’s not far away.
Are all who loves me coming?
My child, there will be no delay.
Is heaven very pretty?
Yes, it’s a gorgeous place.
Has he gone to sleep?
Yes, a child with all that grace.

people standing in a crowd
people very loud
people standing alone
watching brother and sister pigeons
defile the earth
ting on them

moving away cooing
quietly
and quickly
backwards
being
pigeons

mucking around
in the
until they finally must take a stand
and eat the few
bad pigeons
in a flavor able pigeon stew

keeping you safe
binds you to a stranger
making you stay together

making you spend away from from you borne home
keeping you safe
making not live without each other

enjoying
crying
suffering together

I awaken to the pitchy darkness covering my face and I roll over to dig through the nightless dark. I peep out hoping to find the warm sun; I sigh and scurry back to the warmth of my bed amongst the nuts and seeds we stored and snuggle with brother and sister. Tomorrow, I will try again. I know it will come. Just not when.

My Best By Juan Torres 7th Grade

Feeling sad as I see
him leave. He took my
brother and sister. What
more can he take from me.

I have always tried to be
the best I could be. Sad, mad, are
words that remind me of him.
It seemed that he didn't care
but I guess it was meant to be.

It seemed too long but hey,
I'm over it. He left, ok!
Whatever he did was best
for him. He now has a new family.

Who Am I

I am a child of my heavenly father

I am a daughter of my mother and father

I am a sister of my brother and sister

I am a wife of my loving husband

I am a mother of my son and daughter

I am a grandmother of my grand children

I am a friend that will listen and be there

I am a friend that loves no matter what

I am a friend within thyself and share with all

Two piglets out together, walking side by side,
Pressing snuggly wuggly, in wonder big eyed,
On the first stroll, brother and sister sunshine,
As blue birds prance and sing, in green pines.

Senses soon ravished, by the tales of the new,
Like a thrill of thick grass, under skies so blue,
Wandering in wonder, a time made for playing,
When orange sun's vivid, and is always staying.

And Lakers Games
With my brother and sister on red couch
T.V. night tonight!
Watchin' screen eagerly
Watchin' scary movie
Watchin' my bro's tennis match
Watchin' cartoons

Like Spongebob and....

Never mind that!
No one needs tah no dat!

A brother and sister wanted to play Lego's...
but they were missing some of the pieces
So, they used their imaginations
And made some creations
Out of some pieces of Reece's

They built a king's tower, and a colorful flower...
and a buckle for the king to wear on his belt
But the king dropped his pants...
And he was covered in ants
When his belt buckle started to melt

Family Tree

My brother and sister,
both them and me.
Come from the seed,
of the families black sheep.
Underneath every branch,
covered by leaves.
We are lost in the shade,
of our famiy tree.
A gift from our father,
given for keeps.
A branch on the ground,
for both them and me.
We've never been equal,
always beneath.
Lost in the shade of our family tree,
my brother and sister both them and me.

Don't keep on judging
You make me sick
Break your brother's spirit
Your hatred is a mockery
A world is surrounded by darkness
It will always drip blood from a new wound
Although it pains ... you can never win
We share ink and love ... not deadly poison
You've fallen deep ... very deep
A shame
