Premium Member Smarmy Lady
I once met a lady from Killarney
Her tendencies leaned toward the smarmy
Wore the briefest of shorts
Couldn’t hide her big warts
But, she could handle the Irish army.

Fleeting Eternity
eternity is but wink of an eye,
the briefest of moments,
must come to pass,
shall fade and be
gone,

but shall be there again, again,
for, truly, what is lost is found,
what is secret is known,
what is hidden is
shown....

We were that grass you spoke of sir
amidst a blur of wings igniting;
swaying tall from out our marsh
in briefest glimpse of sacred writing.
Now rippled waters long to cleanse
our feet of muddied clay;
all wings are silenced of their song
gone ghost within our sway....

Fireflies
Flashes of light in moonless dark,
here but then not, there but then gone,
the briefest glimpse is all they are,
try to find catch one, but there is none,
it’s drifted off, just to my left,
then to my right, his tail-light on,
a constellation slowly flows,
through my backyard on evenings long....

Philophobia
Inane acts of heroism,
fail to conquer trepidation
There's always an escape, seems
this time, I run far too late
Scarecrows, past abominations
form the briefest hesitaion,
a familiar scent, anxiety,
I guess one more scar won't kill me.
A taste of first love?
I waited,
I waited,
I think I waited long enough...

The Unfortunate Spider
He lilts upon a silken bed,
gossamer beauty in his web,
a small figure of black and red,
cliché yes, but it must be said

that I am amazed by the sight,
glints of fleet, yellowed sunlight,
the strands wave as if in flight,
briefest flash of purest white…

But he spun his web in my
bathroom, so…WHAM!!...

Venturing Out
My husband ventured out today,
His virus on the wane.
He only took the briefest walk
But didn’t much complain.

For he was thrilled (and so was I)
To see him well enough
To leave his snug cocoon and have
The strength to strut his stuff.

He won’t be running marathons
And this I underscore
Because, in truth, he wasn’t running
Marathons before....

Peek-A'-Boo
White clouds slowly turning dark as if flavored coffee dribbled
     from above.
Winds of the unknown blew fiercely thru almost bare trees.
Crackling noise of an angry cloud Is heard in the distant
     sky.
Is hope destroyed?

An unbelievable pause in despair.
The sun comes out for the briefest moment in time.
It says "I am still here, behind the clouds."...

Candle Watch Minichu
The wick aflame on dust whirls
About the trying brilliance of the room—
Eyes burned eyes on hidden places, firesome

Throughout the glass rocked in wax—
A kisses' shadow casts glow on the phantasm;
For this christening's blow on the last

Briefest whim
Cracked whispers
Shaken

The wick aflame on dust whirls;
A kisses' shadow casts glow on the phantasm,
Shaken....

Yellowjackets Flying
I watch the yellowjackets fly
‘Neath overhanging eaves,
Remaining just the briefest time
Before each buzzer leaves.

They’ve obviously built a nest -
You’d know that at a glance -
And there they’ll wait to sting someone
As soon as there’s a chance.

In Nature, there’s a reason for
Each creature to exist.
If stinging insects got the boot, though,
They would not be missed....

Hesitantly Determined Heart
holding on to a cold doorknob,
     he freezes, speechless, confused,
as she turns back to her freedom,
and it seems, for the briefest instant,
she hesitates, she falters in her stride;

but as she vaguely brushes away
an imagined, stray strand of hair
from across her sad, defiant eyes,
     she swallows slow, the sensation
is gone, and so are they to each other....

My Regal Seat
I stood upon a mountain tall,
Feeling like the lord of all.
My kingdom spread beneath my feet,
Ruling from my mighty seat.

Then just for the briefest time
I imagined that these fells were mine.
That I could stay and never go
How I wished it could be so.

It is always with a heavy heart
When reluctantly, I must depart
I loathe to leave my regal seat,
Up here at three thousand feet....

Claytonia

How God ignited the living continuum
No mind can fathom; neither therefrom,
How we sparked to flame.

Yet, some Sparks must beget Starbursts
Not Stars; Ephemerals, in their fleeting bursts,
Are needed not less than Oaks.

I kneel in prayer to lift up her small light
Against the dark, not to morn what might,
But illuminate the birthright of the briefest life.

And by the light of early morn

On high another day is born

And of this day we know so well

To see its end no one can tell

But still we rise to greet the dawn

The briefest glimpse and then it's gone

And by the crimson setting sun

A wisp of smoke and then it's done

And with the fading of the light

We bask beneath oh blessed night

A billion stars so fine to see

In paradise my dreams will be...

She was sad not knowing where her mom’s mind was taking her
sad how sometimes she’d be lost to her a while…
but happy every now and then,…when she’d turn to her and smile.

for in those fleeting moments
moments of surprise
she saw the glow return to her mother’s face
and the sparkle to her eyes…

And she would relish in those moments
savor every second when….
for even the briefest flash…
she was her mom again....

Whispers of the Sea
The whispers of calm
The whispers of peace
The whispers of the briefest inner serenity
They are calling me, the sea calls to me
The distance calls of seals, the cries of the birds, nature’s sweetest symphony, plays its soul-enriching music
It calls to me, they call to me
Apathy fades through the light of ever changing shades
Banish the dark for the shortest of moments.
Call to me, keep calling me
Beautiful whispers of the sea....

Unicycle
He was pedaling in my direction,
His feet never losing control.
His age? 9 or 10 I am guessing,
But his confidence lit up his soul.

We locked eyes for the briefest of seconds.
I was grinning and though he held back,
I could tell that the hint of a smile
Was just busting to peek out a crack.

For he had to know that he was special –
You don’t see unicycles each day –
But the streets of New York do encourage
Every talent one has to display....

I'm just tryin' to catch a good wave,
I know the feelin'
it purifies my world
for the briefest
of
moments
but oh man,
it's stevia sweet!
100 times sweeter than sugar
I can surf it for weeks
and
maybe pull it out,
but it's best
when it just hits
head on!
in
drenching
quenching
clarity

Insensate Destruction
Rehearsed words tumble from his tongue capable of vaporizing feelings; then with his briefest smile becomes the redresser once more leaving the object of his words emotionally traumatized: Mind raping at its finest form; Cold-bloodedness runs through his veins colder than any ectotherm; Temperament worse than the worst lacking the slightest compunction; More like reptilian than human this controlling creature thriven on human mental frailties.

Mundane Beauty
A cluster of Day Lilies glow like embers beneath the shadow of a time-worn Box elder tree that’s plainly visible to see if looking for mundane beauty. Their golden flowers so briefly lived poses for a single day; at days end they wither away. Their presence always call to mind that beauty last the briefest time but I possess a memory where beauty lives eternally. Though they will die I’d soon exhume I’d close my eyes they’d still be bloomed.

Of Love and Red Roses
The rustling words reverberate
when lovers touch the night,
the briefest glances secernate
the stain of heart's delight.

In passion's embrace you found me
among our velvet dreams
where none have power to see
our love now brightly gleams.

My words want to tell you my heart,
of love and red roses,
my precious feelings so impart
as our love discloses.

In a honeysuckle embrace
how sweet the scent above
where fluent kisses trace
the words whispered in love....
