Hesitantly Determined Heart

holding on to a cold doorknob, he freezes, speechless, confused, as she turns back to her freedom, and it seems, for the briefest instant, she hesitates, she falters in her stride; but as she vaguely brushes away an imagined, stray strand of hair from across her sad, defiant eyes, she swallows slow, the sensation is gone, and so are they to each other.
