Says they devour matter that’s faecal
Imagine eating pooh
It’s what dung beetles do
The fetor of their breath must be lethal!

daisies everywhere..
fertile ground.. hollyhocks..

leafy mint.. nematodes..
oregano..peas..

school tornado drills are the same as they ever were
we line them up in hallways and have them put their heads down
like beetles, like spiders, like shy mice, like embarrassed snakes
it seems weird, but it is exactly like it was sixty years ago
Why do some scarab beetles have horns and others do not?
The answer to six scientific questions like this, I avidly sought.
To throw down their contender, said man who been a beetle.
To put them on a clothesline suggested a jokester named Meetle.

Rocking slowly
A rattan armchair
Tired body
Eyes pinning at the ceiling
Blank
No lizards
No beetles
Bored and alone
Mind loose
Eyes dimming
On the past
Fading away
At last eyes closed
For the present
For a short nap
And a better tomorrow
I nearly trod on it
a deposit on the grass
the remains of a meal
pulled apart.
Little bones and pieces
of life lost
devoured
by whoever
an owl perhaps
but now spread
on the turf
for beetles
and flies -
microbial nutrients.
Creations story
displayed.
I reek of trauma and a soiled past,
my lungs are full of mud
from when I was buried alive.
Life was not kind to me,
neither was I;
I berated myself and took down
my own worth.
Now I sit among the earthworms
and the grieving beetles,
remembering how I was
before me.
