A Giraffe If I Could

Yes I would be a giraffe if I could.
Walking proudly on an African plain
Eating leaves from the highest banyan tree
Flipping my idiotic looking tail

Indestructible

Axes
Perpetually strive
Chopping off...
Banyan trees
Perennially spread
Aerial roots...

Worship

The poor man turned
from the temple gate
where throngs of people gathered
to pray and wait.

Yet humbly he knelt
by a small shrine's plea
at the foot of an old Banyan tree.

Banyan Boughs

Be beyond name
Name that hurls game
Game beyond fame

Be your own par
Par that goes far
Far as a star

Bloom in fond boom
Boom fills all rooms
Rooms beauty grooms

Fabulous Frailty

not the banyan trees
dried twigs hold the dragonflies
often carefully

few fallen feathers
form firm foundations for Finch's
fantastic furrow

a leaf on waters
becomes great lifebuoy
for a drowning ant

His Eyes

Your eyes are so calm
like the shade of a Banyan tree on a midsummer day.
I feel soothed by looking at you,
but my thousands of words are less to portray.
From your eyes, I can't move my gaze.
I love to lose my way into your eye's maze.

The Leaf

It sat perched on a Banyan tall
That stood beside a pond,
Which grasped the tree with fingers long
And held the skies beyond;

It dived not in the shallow pool
Nor did it fly away,
It withered slowly on the bough
Upon an autumn's day.

Untitled

Waiting for that moment,
That will probably never come,
Sitting on branches of uncertainty,
Under the Banyan.
Letting the spirits run lose,
And conquer my soul.
Lost without any form of love left,
in these veins,
Short of one single inhale,
Gone, in the wind.

The Banyan Tree

The Banyan Tree
The banyan tree stands tall, come rain or mighty squall, it rests, serene, but never unseen, its branches guarding us all. BITE SIZE POEM no29 Poetry Contest Sponsor: Line Gauthier Date: 6th December 2021

If I Can Just Get To That Tree

A spotted leopard in a banyan tree,
Kept his yellow carnivore-ic eyes on me.
I knew better than to move fast or try to flee.
Big cats love a chase like Simon Legree.
His eyes narrowed, but I refused to see.
How fast that cat was chasing after me.
If I can just get to that tall tall….

Summer Melody

Swallows return bringing summer
Heat waves ruffle the spring air
Banyan tree’s scorched shadow simmers
As soil cracks in sunshine flare.

Night falls with ashes of burnt sky
With cool touch southern wind blows
Stars twinkle summer melody
Lifts up my parched mind morose.

In Steps of Hilo

Waves washed in wind
Sulfer swirled till cold with rain.

Flowers bloomed in ashes
where lava dance to cool.

My love grew in tides
Love of my king and queen.

Banyan holds sulfer in tides
Branches blends kayak in dreams .

Left alone as promise child
Dead call names stalk of sugar cane.

Teppida

rocks watching the moon rise
over the banyan grove
in the shadows
the monkeys fornicate
ears and eyes recording
this singularly unique but ordinary evening
the glowing moon never moves an iota
while it is being watched
the jumping pike
makes a triumphal splash
all motion moves in invisible chains

Just For a Living

There is a huge and old
Banyan tree in front of
The temple in my village
Sitting beneath it
At every morning is
My habit now
But the devotees of the temple
Visit me too
As they think I am a GOD
They offer me many things
In fact I am unemployed
And decided to consume them
Just for a living.

The Tree

My supreme lord
If ever wish you gift me
With a next birth
Never as a human again
Bless me then as a Banyan Tree
Giving shadow and shelter for many
Many lovers may meet and talk
Beneath me
Many kids may gather and play
Beneath me
I can feel and realize then
The true meaning of love
I can feel and realize then
The true meaning of affection .

Like a Banyan Tree

Like a Banyan Tree,
my roots (seeking rebirth),
from eldest, outstretched limbs, descend
to a heartening earth.

Like a Banyan Tree
on hilltop with grand stance,
love from embossed gold earth and sky,
shall help my soul's expanse.

Spirit rustles arches
of my highest leaves.
Life flows through my core,
my dawns, my days, my eves.

It Was Lust, Not My Love

once I saw a girl
beneath the shadow of Banyan tree, Ramna Park;
I fell in love with her;
I couldn't tolerate her out of my sight

once I felt
I sucked her,
drank her blooming honey
and I biologically gratified myself;

once I gave her freedom to her abysmal gloomy path

Now I understand; it was lust, not my love

Hugs-2

HUGS

The day after the Tsunami hugged the shores,
by a penitent ocean lying low,
in the beach which lay mauled and scarred,
an old woman and a girl stood homeless and hugging
and not far away
a bower lay crumpled, within which
but stood tall as always the two-some
of a neem and a banyan in an unshakeable hug.

Uncle Mike's Island Encounter

Under the Banyan Tree

Underneath the banyan tree
Eating lunch so peacefully
What was that that dripped on me

Wet on shoulder, hip and knee
No one else – no, only me
Wondering what it could be

Looking up into the tree
No care that all of us could see
From lifted leg so gracefully

Yes there I was in old San Juan
Underneath the devil’s spawn
When suddenly I’m peed upon

Iguana pee

My Family

my family tree - nurtured, supportive Banyan roots stay firm beneath Strong branches stretch out, colouring a billion leaves - and those billion lives. United we stand, not by blood… but loyalty. Vasudev Kutumb.

Dawn

day break is dawning
I captured the moon yawning
while the sun was getting dressed
I heard cars rolling over
the wet pavement from the mist
of the morning dew the smell of wild
open granduer arouses my memory
of colonial pastures and beckoning hues
the crawling grapevines creeping around
the banyan trees of warm wood cold rock
crisp cedar too why day break is dawning
its dawning anew

Banyan Tree

Feel the ambience grand,
Old boughs spread a charm;
New era greets span,
Dreams in gracious psalms.
Blessings from old times,
Affluence spreads new trace;
Note sensorial chimes,
Yield blessings of grace;
An old friend my dear,
Now calmly awaits.
Truth and trust find cheer,
Reach a deeper fate;
Embrace stillness here,
Explain wonders dear.

Natures Message

Look at the beauty of nature
Scattered around
People anywhere to anywhere
Banyan anywhere is gross

Red roses are red
Look at the cheeks of the Earth
Lily and jasmine sambac
Gathering the rock

See full Himalayan snow
Nanda's highest mountain peak
See what tomorrow flows
Ganga river serene sleep

Nature has given us all
Unique message of life
Come deleted distance of Mind
Far removed trouble!

Rainbow's End

I’ve walked
	Many a mile
Since every Rainbow’s End
	Was just a wish away
Every pot of gold
	Has stayed a wish ahead
I’ve walked
	Many a mile
Through smoke-filled haze
	And alcoholic daze
		Melody now gone
	From lonesome cities
I took no time
	To listen then
Now I’ll sit a while
	By the Banyan Tree
		Draw its cosmic force
	Replenish my spirit
		My energy
	Journey on to
		Find hope at
			The
		Rainbow’s End
