Blackened potato
rock-hard tomato
Piece of stale bread
filthy mattress, a bed
All luxuries at Auschwitz
Bergen-Belsen and Dachau
The question is not why they
survived ~ but How
From the ashes at Auschwitz
to the charred remains at Be'eri
Generations of Jewish children
bear witness to the same tragic story
Mankind's searing hate for God's people
the Jews
We ask Him to strengthen us
to see this new episode through
Auschwitz
only following orders
Pushing corpses into the oven
living now my only thought
survival keeping my uniform clean
I only did what I was told
loading bodies of the dead
once bold soul now weak
bought n sold
Auschwitz
Jewish guards
Only following orders
meanness
cruel actions
human history
this being our legacy
before being submerged in our own heart-waste
what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

In and around Auschwitz
Barbed wire still weeps
through too long denied rain.
In and around Annihilation
Denied climates fast creep
disempowering pain.
Through surrounding Anger
Charged hate denies sleep
for those who must explain.
In tyrannic Asps
Barbed boundaries sweep
out lies of monstrous strain.
Two million soles collected
One million souls lost
Can humanity recover,
From the holocaust?
This stockpile of shoes
Is a reminder and clue
That what happened to them
Could happen to you.
Auschwitz reminds us
Of man’s inhumanity to man
If we can forget
It can happen again.

Dinosaurs, seemed stupid, but quite fierce
Nothing their teeth, claws or armor couldn’t pierce
Humans, being the civilized creatures we are
Auschwitz, the Gulag, Mao’s ‘Great Leap Forward’ ~
How much smarter we are than those stupid dinosaurs
A siren sounds and movement stops –
Pedestrians stand still
While cars and buses hit the brakes
And silence reigns until
Another siren breaks the spell;
Two minutes to reflect
On the gates of Auschwitz, opened
To what no one would expect.
As antisemitism flares
And rears its ugly head,
We look back and remember
The survivors and the dead.
Would a good God permit an Auschwitz
Would a bad god grant Mother Theresa long life
Would a good God turn Osama bin Laden loose
Would a bad god have given Adam a wife
When folks say they don't believe in God
they mean a good God would never do bad
while a bad God would never do good
~ though such a test is designed for childhood

mountains of bones
The smell of flesh burning
crematoria’s home
Auschwitz, Dachau
Buchenwald now fade
Hitler replaced by the
Holocaust Sinwar made
Yet Hitler’s once more a hero
to growing numbers, not just a few
As to posters of Sinwar
Palestinians pay homage to
Heart's silent scream
lovers torn
from savaged arms
Hunched over
bludgeoned into queue
they disappear from view
Auschwitz
Bergen-Belsen
Buchenwald
Dachau ...
'Arbit Macht Frei' *
