to completely heal, no matter 
friendly medicines proffered, 
prostheses patiently plugged,
eventual atrophied acceptance;
memories fade away, like streams
joining a river, but not to wash away
they just become part of the ocean....

The closeness we once had 
was a light shining in the dark. 
Storm clouds came 
and shielded the sun. 

The seeds atrophied 
and the sprouts withered. 
What was once a rainbow 
became a black and white
single brush stroke 
against a pale sky.

into slush puddles
that soon disappear.

Sunlight feels warm
on naked skin;
the air smells fresh,
and songbirds sing.

Daffodils
and tulips,
quickly sprout.

Your hair turns grey
you wear false teeth
you put on weight
and cannot sleep.

You’re grouchy
and can't hear,
all sure signs

The light spills out over the horizon
from the yolk of the broken sun
it slips warmly through our window
and falls like ocean waves
against the shorelines of her face
her waning dreams perform
an encore for the spectators
seated before her waking stage
as the arena becomes lit
the crowd disperses and empties
leaving her atrophied eyes
to begin their daily struggle
with all the things they cannot explain
to her beautiful mind...

The nascent palms clutched
the blank parchment You gave,
almost filled up now.
The hieroglyphic scroll of failed life
at the edge of night
crumbles to dust
in time’s wasteland.

The new day will dawn,
I pray…
take back my time wasted,
my atrophied past,
give another blank parchment.
I’ll rise from dust,
write the saga of vibrant life anew…
