Bar
Meeting, toast, and air conditioner.
The jazz background dissonance.
Phosphorescent drinks in crystal cup,
Holding all virtual life inside it....

The silence is music to my ears.
With only the chirping of birds,
The constant humming of the air conditioner,
And the sporadic buzzing of a bee zipping past.
Oh the wonderful silence of being home,
                       alone,
                 in the back yard....

Premium Member Lazy Porch Sitting On a Summers Day
jet plane
drills past
rambling sound

enjoying vegetation
I am tempted to jet nowhere
dog at my feet agrees
we are content

a lazy day
the only other sound is
a window air conditioner

helps my husband
keep the house
perpetually on freeze

why do you think
the dog and I are
out on the porch?

We are trying to warm up....

Trees Should Blossom In the Height of Summer
in the depth of the heat
the flowers (in shameless
uncompromising color)
should scream love from
every corner of the world

I turned the air conditioner up too high, I think
to avoid the sticky residue that every molecule
of July has left on this skin (that sacrificed its
softness for a healing breeze

and in return
can no longer feel anything at all)...

Heat Wave
It's ninety eight degrees
in Jersey,
your hug felt limp,
sweaty,
and forced,
like the old air conditioner
that creaked to life
when you made us coffee,
looking into my eyes,
just to show
you could be sober,
at least for a New York minute,
letting me know
a happy future wasn't an option
and love was only real in movies,
but at least
you made me laugh....

After Words
After the passion,
the nocturnal diving
of sea-creatures
leaves echoes and splashes.

I go into the kitchen;
it is somewhere in the night.
in a dim pool of light.

After sex, the air-conditioner
hums louder,
or is it the fridge de-frosting,
or is it the song of a man in love
with the wordless?

Later, side by side,
fingers lay down
to listen to hands....

Premium Member To Build a Special Roof For You
(My late father was a construction worker.Remember him on Father's Day.)
The construction workers with
Sweating foreheads
Dry throats
Burning skins
Blinding eyes
Struggle to build
An air-conditioned roof
Under the sun
For you and especially for you
While themselves
Working at a place
Without a fan or an air conditioner
But under a burning sun
Hanging from a roof called the sky...

The Ant On My Balcony
The ant on my balcony

Today there was an ant on my balcony.
I focused on it in fear.
Today there was a spider on my balcony.
I focused on it in fear.
Today I set a bird free from my air conditioner.
I grabbed it in love and let it fly.
Today I asked my wife who she was attracted to.
Feeding on my fear, I looked for ways to hurt myself.
Wondering, when I would grab her in love and let her fly....

"oh Boy!"
“Oh Boy!”

Summer was swirling in my head.
Boys, romance novels, teen mags were all that I read.
I just got my car and my license, enough said.
“So, you’ve locked your car with your car engine running, your car alarm sounding,
your air conditioner blowing, your window shield wipers wiping, your radio blaring,
your headlights are glowing and your purse is in your car too?” asked Officer Ted.

True story....

Way To Sleep
Office work Off....
Office lights off....
So, Tension off.....
And, Work Clothes off...

Home lights on......
Night Clothes on....
Air conditioner On...
Resting On......

Lights off....
Eyes off......
Nerves off....
Day off....

The cool breeze slides....
The sleep glides....
Day hides...
Dream rides......

The night passes so quickly...
But it's not the day....
On the bed I lay....
And I work very briskly.......

Secluded High Rise
secluded high rise
picnic with a view
rare day off for both of us
enjoying each others company because of each other
no conversation
your head on my shoulder
air conditioner at a respectable level
no thermostat drama tonight
a kem cd playing
imagination standstill
the back seat is full
our minds are completely empty
tomorrow we explore
tonight we just enjoy this moment of stillness
secluded high rise
dancing slowly now to the rhythm of our heartbeats...

Premium Member Road Trip
Remaining time on our holidays we headed for
Ontario. It was the hottest of hot days
And sweat poured off our skins like it was dry
Desert heat upon the earthly sands

Throwing our air conditioner to full throttle we
Realized that we had chocolate bars in the back seat
In this heat they melted right inside the wrappers
Pretty soon we felt like we were melting inside our skin

8/19/13

note--it was 42 C everyday that week we were gone.
Not an enjoyable road trip...

Awake
Make your grave
That’s not so difficult, is it?
Pull a comforter over the coffin
Maybe an electric blanket

Now 7 AM. That’s no hour to get to bed
Time wears thin any sense of constrained risk

Now 10 AM and I think I’ll
Stare at the back of my eyelids

Now noon and
The robins dive
By the air conditioner

Lie and lie
To yourself

Day or night or
Whenever

I don’t give a damn

Between the lights
On broken marrow

I succumb to the ardent bliss of
Nothing at all...

Grateful
I can hear the gentle buzz of the air conditioner
Soothing its way to my dream state
And I am grateful

Now I can live again
I can look to a future
And my mind dances across hopeful projects

All this from devoted research
All this from new technology
All this from faith, spirit and guts

The tests, the chemo, the radiation
Bright fluorescent hospital lights that startle
Radiation hums
Now almost forgotten

So here is my daydream
To live, to feel, to be
And I am grateful...
