It's nuts!
I live in a country where the president hates my guts.
Mine and and those of 175 million others ~
we're talking grandparents, parents, sister, and brothers.
And all because we didn't vote for that orange putz.
"Hush now my little darling,
Blow your nose and wipe your eyes."
"The "Tooth Fairy" comes tonight,
And he'll leave a big surprise!"
"So, dry those tears sweet Jim,
Dream of rainbows in the sky."
"And tomorrow when you wake,
A silver coin you will spy!"
Moonlight drifts through midnight dreams,
Such innocence enthralls him.
He tip-toes like a shadow,
But, what plight might befall Jim?
A single pearl rests neath pillow
The evidence gaps young smile.
"Let's peek in my bag of tricks,"
His methods are somewhat vile!
"But, what's this...only "one" tooth?
"Don't dream golden, I'm not through.
"One just won't cut it for me,
But, the rest of them will do!"
"A little drop of ether,
So little Jim won't awake."
"And with all due diligence,
Your little smile I will take!"
Just like he slithered on in,
He slinks out of bedroom door.
Wearing a "Cheshire Cat" grin,
Twenty teeth lie on Jim's floor!
Parents peek into bedroom,
Twenty pearls checkers the rugs.
And right there, next to Jim's head...
Just a bag of silver slugs!
Just in time for the "Halloween Spooktacular!"...Sweet dreams children!
I’ve been playing for years,
well aware of your fears,
most don’t make it, that’s clear,
but they say we’ve cracked the top ten;
a struggle it’s become,
but it always was one,
finally, it seems done,
downloads paying off dividends.
Hang on, hang on,
babe we’re almost there,
hang on, hang on,
we’ll get there.
So close to it
you better prepare,
hang on, hang on,
it’s right there!
Take a chance on my dream,
not a sure thing, it seemed,
of the crop I’m not the cream,
spent so many ate nights away.
I know you could have left,
parents said that was best,
maybe we passed the test,
we’re coming on a good payday!
Hang on, hang on,
babe we’re almost there,
hang on, hang on,
we’ll get there.
So close to it
you better prepare,
hang on, hang on,
it’s right there!
All that went wrong,
we’ve been waiting for so long,
all my mistakes,
challenges along the way.
all of this risk,
making sure I earned this,
breakthrough, at last,
no more days of living fast!
Hang on, hang on,
babe we’re almost there,
hang on, hang on,
we’ll get there.
So close to it
you better prepare,
hang on, hang on,
it’s right there!
NELLA’S BLESSING
May we be blessed as parents
As we get to know our children
a little better every day….
to understand the meaning…
of the things they do not say.
I am grateful for understanding parental math…
although I’m sure my elementary teachers
would think my math misguided…
How the love for each of our children,
grandchildren
and great grandchildren
can be whole…
no matter how many times it is divided.
For today’s blessing I’m relying on…
The wisdom and the words of Thich That Hanh:
‘If you look deeply into the palm of your hand,
you will see your parents
and all generations of your ancestors.
All of them are alive in this moment.
Each is present in your body.
You are the continuation of each of these people.’
baby elephant wanted to play
the soccer coach could not figure out a way
the girls insisted, and so he backed down a bit
baby elephant would not release the ball
which means the competitive parents all had a fit
coach took flack all that fall
Cigarette Smokers
In a world tainted by pollution and smog you're adding to the problem
Please don't think for a second that electric cigarettes will solve them
Cigarettes wouldn't be half bad if they just took the smoker out
It isn't fair that it kills those who wouldn't put one to their mouth
Parents smoke but would brake out in a rage if their children tried
What if each pack kept up with the growing number who died
Each smoker fails to realize what they smell and look like
The x-rays of their lungs to the doctors must be a horrible sight
They should ask themselves if this nasty habit is worth dying over
Are they recognizing with each puff their calling death much closer
What ingredients makes up the tobacco anyway
I heard rat poison makes up some of it so is that ok
Who's worse, neighborhood drug dealers or the tobacco company
They both make money from the lives they take if you're asking me
I am grateful I understand with utmost affection
how between a parent and child
there is a loving…never-ending connection….
How we never stop being a child to our parents
no matter how old we are…
no matter where we go…
and how we never stop being a parent to our children
no matter where they go
no matter how old they grow.
May we be blessed to understand
one of the most important lessons of life
that is perhaps the farthest reaching:
How as children or parents
we should never stop our learning
because life…
will never stop its teaching.
My parents gave me love and hugs
and told me just say no to drugs.
Now, this is really just a guess,
but if I'm talking to drugs,
then I think I've said "Yes"!
Teenagers
Tired of being harassed
By your stupid parents
Act now
Stuppidly wanted
Pack your bags and your irrigants
Get up off your ass
Get a job
Fill out an application
Pay your own bills
Because you know everything
You know more than me
Your phone bill will sky rocket
I don’t have a clue
I don’t want to see red sirens
Put your big boy pants on
Don’t ask me for any more money
You can pay for your very own $900 rent payment
Don’t forget a roll of quarts for the laundry matt
Use paper plates
Don’t be crying to me
I don’t want to hear it
You are dying for your own independents
It’s time to do adult things
Enjoy
Let The Guilt Go
Rebelled down a hard road
We all rebelled against our parents
(1980’s with a wooden spoon)
Every generation
Through adult-hood
I failed college
A divorce
Yep, child support
Bankruptcy
Just being honest
Disappointed in me
I’m under construction
Another detour
Let the guilt go
Always room to grow
Don’t beat yourself up forever
We all make mistakes
Sometimes we’re in the valley
Always learning
Life is traveling
Seasons are changing
Wisdom to gain
What a crazy journey it has been in my shoes
Be an instrument
Sculptured into the new you
Lead by example
Let the guilt go
I’ve been down so many trials and errors
Trying to make it on my own
Don’t feel guilty to ask for help
Family is always there
Admit I have a problem
This is between you and God
Go back home to the Cross
Though a doctor or a lawyer in my parents' eyes,
I eschewed that to become the best at catching flies.
I could have been a doctor (if I had been wise).
From their graves, I can still hear their tortured cries,
"When will little Davey finally realize
there's more to life than being best at catching flies?"
Cy the snail comes a courting with tulips and daisies fine.
they must be for me, yelled Cybil, they are all mine!
They are for your mother, snail told her. Keep your hands off.
Her daddy tried to warn the snail with a subtle cough.
But the snail was obstinate and did not take a clue.
He gave Cybil’s other the tulips in lavender and pretty blue.
Trying to make a good impression, but lost Cybil in the deal.
She refused to go on the date, even though it meant a free meal.
