In quilting class (which meets on Zoom),
I followed the directions,
By cutting, pinning, basting, sewing
All the different sections.
I kept up with the teacher
(Which for me is very rare),
So during “show and tell” I had
A project I could share.
With the pillow insert stuffed inside,
I fluffed it all the way
And proudly placed it on the couch,
My hard work on display.

In a sea of quilted pillows way down below
Were stitches of love and fun that Jan's grandma did sew
In the hem there was a teensy little elf named Nimble
He had watched grandma’s magic, when she used a thimble.
Nimble kept quiet until the child was asleep.
Not coming out until their snores were loud and deep.
Remnants of a sage woman’s goodness were stitched in love
Nimble knew that our dear grandma was watching from heaven above

Darling Dapper Quilted Turtle goes by DQT
He is about as handsome as he has the right to be
We watch him on the rock eating flies with his tongue
He is not only dashing, he is truly lots of fun!

Quilted cat had a right to be puffed up and proud.
We all knew he was the prettiest cat, not a bit cowed.
With his paisleys and checks, he was subtle, not loud.
He was dapper and darling, the greatest cat in our crowd.

Reclaimation
Recyclation
Drilling into
stone to
manage water
waters to be
reclaimed
stored and
reused.
Then how might
I speak such when
My existence can
be questioned in
opposition to my
Claim.
Fro. Stranger to
Less strained.
Might the freindly
way of sacred
trust trickle upon
the stranger
Uncitifed to be
Country enough
to be Human!
The bassoons stopped when
the piccalos spoke of reclaimation
and desaltifcation
To let the cymbals speak to
trumpeted muses.
Oh clear!
Might my waters
Quinch my thirsty
Palate.
When they speak me
as existed, to make
Me evil and my
exhistance vain!

The sky looks like a mattress
a pillow-top it seems
A quilted plush horizon
where I just left my dreams
I really should have stayed there
all nestled in my bed
With visions of the one I love
adrift within my head
But now that I am out here
to brave the freezing cold
My eyes still gaze towards the east
and if the truth be told
No matter if I’m sleeping
or up, the day is new
My mind will always see the same
because my dream is you
~
Actually the clouded sky on my way home last night
looked like a pillow-top mattress. I just saved the
inspiration for this morning. : )

The way morning bleeds through to night.
My thoughts are a quiet park
free of whimsical birdsong and children’s laughter
on Saturday afternoon’s eternal summer.
From the bench you’re on a quilted ridge
sleek as a southern hiccup weaving through cedar
where pine needles flourish by your dimming light.
I sink softly, a freshly formed puddle
fallen below. The sky unembroidered.

I have a lovely quilt, that my wife stitched for me
she said ‘twill keep your legs warm, while you’re watching TV
don’t know how old she thinks I am, I’m only seventy three
but she said “it will be good for you, especially your sore knee”
She made me a cushion too, so comfy I would be
I think she has the notion I just sit and watch TV
it has a chess motif on it, cause I like chess you see
a Castle and a King, they could be just the key
I use the cushion every day, to play chess, and watch TV
but I don’t use the quilt much, it gets too hot for me
so on the back of the chair, that’s where it will be
and will stay there till I need it, maybe when I’m ninety three

Somewhere in the Appalachian Hills quilted with love
there are cottages and curtains clothes on sills, quilted with love.
Up high in deep where electric wires don't reach where night is dark
and the ridge the deepest blue of spruce hearts are still, quilted with love.
Across the table hewn from ancient apple, rubbed and oil, flat, sweet
lies a cloth that Gram made from flour sacks once filled, quilted with love.
The stream, miles off, had held a mill where wheat was yearly brung
our harvest gleaning we would bring barefoot uphill, quilted with love.
Nothing was wasted then, old clothes, became new, small bits of sacks
bought comfort, hot pots to hold, mended gifts, heart instilled, quilted with love.

were at a quilted crossroad
why not lie there with me
and watch paper unicycles go by while listening to owl city
this doesnt feel real but i knew it was when a teardrop escaped from your cry
but luckily it fell and i caught it in the palm of my hand just in time
and right there you lay your pouted lips on mine and suddenly it felt like i was in
summertime
it didnt feel like we were in a situation
i felt like we fell in love at the right destination
coz all our thoughts blew away with the wind
and then it felt like we couldnt lose the slot machine tripled win
and all that could have happened was if time froze
and on your body lay a rose
coz then its sleep time and the scene is set for a quilted crossroad....

You are my checkered King . I am your Lavender Queen.
Spring air brings strong pulsating beats of your heart.
No thread nor fragrance can match that of your fine fabric
Being enveloped immersed we seem to rule the world
Wrapped warm in each others arms there can be no harm
I salute you , raise my gold cup and drink to you my Lord
Secure in your bright , blessed light I feel so safe at night
With your arms entwined around me life is complete.
Come , eat my Lord, of our sweet aromatic sacred foods.
Beside our lush hearth , harpsichord music sets the mood.
