Two rules of life

Life of moments but two
Teaches us tenets two:
Do blossom as buds do,
Spread fragrance, all your hue,
If giving love’s greatest of gift,
Getting, biggest trophy to lift.

Note: Inspired from the original Urdu:

Do pal ki ziñdagi ke do usul:
Nikharo phool ki tarah
Aur bikharo khooshboo ki tarah,
Kiseeko prem denaa sabse badaa upahaar hai,
Aur kiseekaa prem paanaa sabse badaa sammaan hai.

Pahilyanda pahata kshani tula mi,

Ek Prem Prastav

Khwaabon mein jo kho gayi woh raat ho tum,
Mere dil mein jo basi, kuchh aisi baat ho tum.

Sajde mein uthe jo yeh haath ho tum,
Har saans mein jo shaamil woh saath ho tum.

Chaandni raato ki woh nazaakat ho tum,
Meri har dhadkan ki jo hifaazat ho tum.

Bheege mausam ki woh pehli fuhaar ho tum,
Mere dard ki woh ek hi dawa ho tum.

Khamoshiyon mein jo goonjti woh sada bhi tum,
Har lafz mein chhupi woh dua ho tum.

Jo sukoon de woh haseen khyaal bhi tum,
Mere alfaazon ki khoobsurat misaal ho tum.

Mere dil ki dhadkan ho tum,
Main tumhaari zindagi hoon, ab yeh sawaal ho tum!!

Kya hoon, Main tumhari Jindagi, batao na!
Yeh ab sawal ho tum!!

Watch in vain - 2

Hard put as *****Sapiens to prove,
Far off left have we oh, home of love.
Lose virtue, watch in vain Sita’s woes,
Jatayu long dead, scarce can we move.
__________________________
Translation |05.09.2024| history, women, world
Poet’s note: This is second in the three-piece series on the theme. It depicts what happened in the epic Ramayana. When Sita was abducted by Ravana, Jatayu, the vulture king, challenged him and sacrificed his life. This epigram says we have lost Jatayu in us in this dark age. The original in Gujarati as transliterated (in PS-acceptable way) is as under:

Chalaayu chhej nahi, prem naa gharma javaayu chhej nahi,
Museebat ej chhe, dvaar thi paachhaa valayu chhej nahi,
Dharma ne khoyaa karo, door thi sita-haran joyaa karo,
Biju to thaaye shun, aapani andar Jatayu chhej nahi.
                                                            - Milind Gadhavee

Love and Attachment: Tales of the Hear

Prem aur moh, do alag raah,
Ek pyaar ka, ek bandhan ka sahaara.
Prem mein hai utsaah, sangharsh aur samarpan,
Moh mein hai moh maaya, bharam aur bhool-bhulaiyaan.

Prem mein hai samajh, saath nibhaana,
Moh mein hai lalach, khud ko bhool jaana.
Prem mein hai vishwaas, niraasha ki jagah,
Moh mein hai andhere, sacchai ki parchaaiyan.

Prem ek amrit hai, jeevan ka suroor hai,
Moh ek jaal hai, bhool bhulaiya ka chakravyuh hai,
Prem se milti hai shanti, saath aur anand,
Moh se milta hai tanav, virakti aur vyatha ka vyavhaar.

Prem mein hai sachai, moh mein hai maya,
Prem mein hai satya, moh ne hai bhram jaal bichaaya.
Prem mein hai aatma ki mithaas, moh mein hai sansaar ka bhaagya,
Prem ek vishwaas hai, moh ek bhool bhaavna.

Narrow Goes the Lovestreet

When I was He was not,
With He there I am not,
Narrow goes the love street,
For two space there is not.

O keep light loads on I —
Loads scarce can ye carry,
Lighten thy ego’s load —
And lighter shall ye fly.

Knock, knock, who’s at the door?
Me, it’s me, came the lore,
You, me, where’s space for two?
And knocks came nary more,

Returning long later,
It’s you, called the caller,
Prompt was he welcomed in
As one — the scene and seer!

Good if tomorrows teach,
But for today ye reach,
Now’s the time to live in,
Good if goes every itch.

Musings | 06.02.2023 | ego, love,

Poet’s note: The first of five quatrains in the form of epigram is due to Kabeer, Prem galee ati sankaree. As to the second: the first-person singular pronoun huñ in Gujarati meaning I comes with a dot on the consonant. A heavy or big dot is deemed as undue load, luggage of ego. In love, till me and mine, you and me remain, the two in love remain apart, oneness never happens. The remaining three also talk on the same theme.

In your joyful time
you would remember,
I sang for you all,
when the wilted leaves began to fall.
In the barren forest,
reposing abandoned on dry grass,
I sang for you all,
when the wilted leaves began to fall.

In your day-time journey
you would remember,
I traveled in the night
with the lamp of twilight.
I heard the other side of the river call me,
sailing on the broken boat,
I sang for you all,
when the wilted leaves began to fall.

(This is the translation of Rabindranath Tagore's untitled Bengali lyric No. 18 in section "Prem" (Love) in "Geetabitan".)

Mahadev

Leela is Mahadev's creation
Of the creation here
To write Leela, we have been
Originated from creation here

Colouring with all the breath
In mind day night
In the greatness of devotion
There is no relation's fight

The ladder is held by the SHIV
MAHADEV is a sweet name
With devotion and determination
The song of Shiva's Prem

Hariman is the name of BHAKT
Not all actions are celebrated part
Evils of accumulated wealth of few
The knot of the many broken heart

-------------
Leela (Hindi) = Miracle, Nature
SHIV (Hindu) = GOD
MAHADEV (Hindu)= GOD
BHAKT (Hindi) = Devotee
PREM (Hindi) = Love

When You Came

center>
When You Came (Jakhon Eshechile)
By Rabindranath Tagore
Translated by Snehendu Kar

When you came,
it was a dim twilight.
The moon had not yet arisen
Across the ocean shore.
Dear forever unknown,
Yet I recognized you at once
With my sixth sense.
Your lingering song
Filled my longing soul
And we became one.

When you left, alone,
In the darkness of night,
The moon had climbed
On the bosom of the sky.
Your fragrant garland
Was lying on the wayside.
I could surmise, for whom
You left this adoring boon.
