You can never go overboard at the steambunk convention they said
But they did not know about Oscar, son of OvertheTop Ted.
He designed a steampunk hat that was way over what was expected.
And his beard was so far out, the rest of them rubber-neck-ted.
I did not think he’d be this far out, his friend Drew said to all.
That mustache is crazy too, I will not invite him next fall.
But Oscar won them over, even though his look was over-the-top.
They liked his personality so much, he comes every year;
he has never stopped.

In the mountains, lived a special pup
He was gentle, kind and so amazing
His antics were true, never made up
My meals he was forever appraising
He often seemed to be star gazing
In the hills, where this guy was born
There lived a kitten with dark gray fur
He often felt her exasperating scorn
His life went by so fast, it’s such a blur
He’s the pup my heart will always prefer
In the times when he was so young
His gentleness caused me to smile
Admiration was always on my tongue
For he was a dog who was never hostile
He taught his friends how to live in style
In the moments, before he left this world
He gave a sigh and fell across my lap
I petted his fur, so very soft and curled
Remembering his fear of every thunderclap
He was full of love that I’d happily unwrap
In the mountains, beneath forest trees
Lived a pup who was wild and free
He listened but mostly did as he pleased
Sometimes, he’d sit and scratch a flea
But, always, he’d be right there for me!

Octopus Oscar needs all tentacles eight
One to carry his dinner plate
One to hold during his presidential debate
One to write upon his sixties slate
One to open the garden gate
One to watch, so he will not be late
One to cuddle his friend, Kate
One to open his second-hand freight
One to balance, so he could roller skate

Witty, flamboyant, vain, he seldom smiled,
red lips on his tomb by women beguiled:
he said funny poignant things,
he wrote, he wrote things with wings;
got grey but never got old . . Oscar Wilde

Olivia offered oatmeal to her obstinate dragon Oscar Lee.
He stared at her, wondering “is she trying to kill me?”
“Do not want it,” he told her. “it does not look tasty.”
“I put maple syrup on it, she said, very pleasantly.
So oatmeal was imbibed by the dragon Oscar Lee.
Who now asks for it with syrup almost daily.
Moral of the story is to taste new foods pleasantly.
You also might find a new favorite that is pretty tasty.

Oscar and I
Today, I drove to Faro, In the Algarve
I wanted to eat a tunny steak at a café
I used to go fifteen years ago
The place had gone upmarket, as had
prices
The server remembered me, but not
my wife and took an instant dislike to
the man said he was effeminate
Oscar Wilde entered, or someone who
looked like him
He was of the expansive sort, told jokes
and recited poems, the other guests
and my wife liked him
I decided to become gay for the day
and after a few glasses of wine, stood
up to read my poems
she tugged at my sleeve and told me to
shut up.
Oscar Wilde looked at me with deep
sympathy in his intelligent eyes
I had my moment to gain, if putative
fame, she had to spoil it all
My chance had gone

In answer to Oscar Wilde's quote
"never love anyone who treats you like you are ordinary"
I cannot help but love him she said
But he puts you down, we pointed out
He sequesters you from your family and friends
He isolates you from your loves and your joys
She could not be persuaded, she had to find it out for herself
When she finally made the break, her happiness came back in droves
She was enthusiastic personified again, and full of good advice
You cannot tell us who to love, just remind us to love ourselves.

I've had an 'out of body' experience
So you can't blame me for what I did
My alter ego Oscar perpetrated the crime
To do such a thing I'm too timid
I'm totally innocent of this heinous act
Must have been devoid of all morals
Listen I still do have a few of them left
With that you surely can't quarrel
This heinous act of stealing a kiss
Had crossed my mind a few times
But being the timid soul that I am
Never thought of crossing that line
So I'm not guilty, pleaded nothing wrong
It was Oscar my mischievous friend
Who tends to run amok once in a while
And I'm always having to defend

I've been dreaming all night
for a cherished sight
The dream of shooting up to sky
ill never down, I WILL pry
Shall I SOAR for an Oscar
the dream which I WILL CONQUER
ill never diminish on power
ill keep up till my golden hour
my faith on Victory is alive
For it, I shall dive, STRIVE AND THRIVE
I SHALL SOAR For OSCAR
THE DREAM I SHALL AND WILL CONQUER!
