Mattie and Myrna

Mattie and Myrna have become my pals
Though it wasn't that way from the start
They're nothing like dear Red and Goldie
But over time they've won my heart.

Red and Goldie used to visit the feeder
Until frightened away by the cat
But Mattie and Myrna being bold and brassy
Would loudly squawk and chat.

When they brought their new mynah fledglings
Wearing a pathetic hungry look
These crafty avian parents
Knew that this was their winning hook.

They watch my comings and goings
And feign a respectful kowtow
And being their well trained human,
I toss them some Friskies Cat Chow!

So, although I miss my cardinals,
Their beauty and enchanting song,
Somehow these boisterous mynahs
In my life now seem to belong.

If Lovers We

IF LOVERS WE
(To Julia)

`` If lovers we, you and I, who would we be?
W0uld we be William Powell and Myrna Loy,
sophisticates, trading alcoholic quips across the dining room?
Would we be Abelard and Heloise,
lovers doomed, she to a nunnery, and he,
his castrati voice intoning high prayers through the fog
of winter afternoons
Would we be Tom and Valerie Elliott
plunging into a cold madness?
Would we be Bonnie and Clyde,
outlaw lovers, running down country roads
 			to meet violent death?
Would we be Buster Keaton and the heroine,
he taking a pratfall towards her heart?
Or an average couple, maybe, growing old before the fire,
watching the last dying coals go out?
No, I would be your Robert Browning
and you would be my ‘Lizbeth Barrett--:
you are my poetry, the rhythm and metre of my soul,
you are my painting, the portrait in my mind,
you are my music, my perfect pitch.
It is through you I speak.

Premium MemberShe Would Do Si Do

On her feet Myrna was so light,
Her build petite, yes, very slight.
She learned tap and she learned ballet.
She’d do-si-do, a cute sashay.

She had rehearsals day and night.
Her ma was firm, but not so bright.
Thought she’d be stuck ‘til she was gray.
Dreamed often of running away.

A handsome man with lots of height,
Fell in love with her at first sight.
Her parents banished him away.
Discouraged her to laugh and play.

She left in middle deepest night.
Saving for him her joy so bright.
They thought she could not stay away
Did not see her another day.

With seasoned amazement, you walk along the sand
Myrna Caldberg left her mark on your mystery angles, oh yes,
Her and Jeff left you for good on their plane ride to Egypt,
Cairo, where my Yolanda waits for me
You said, your sloping brown arms sparkling in the sun with
Whiter palms; you told me of my unknown love when we were
Palm-palm, told me I could never be yours
Because Yolanda is mine,
Unseen, unmet, and incomprensible,
Though the plane tickets are gone,
Leaving us on the beach
Entangled in desire.

Myrna and the Lion

Myrna had been hiding for years
But finally he'd sniffed her out,
So she turned to face her predator
But his roar made her fast turn about,

And instantly she began running
Though the lion was close on her tail,
Such screams for help were never heard
As she stumbled and let out a wail,

For the lion at last had caught her
And she looked up in horror and fright,
It seemed all was lost for Myrna
As the lion went to take a bite,

But a trap was prepared for the lion!
And his jaw snapped shut in shock
As he found himself bound and imprisoned
And unable to open the lock,

Myrna saw the trap and sighed
As she needed no more fear the beast,
But her welcome relief was short-lived;
She found the cage did not help in the least,

So nobody knew why she worried;
They considered the beast as long gone,
But though Myrna saw the lion ensnared
She heard his roar go on and on.

Too Late

Pay Attention
and you shall see
the light that shines
inside of me.
Look closer
in my eyes
where all emotion
in me lies.
But you were elsewhere
and you were blind.
You never saw
the pain in me climb.
Look at me now
after all the pain.
After all the clues
I gave you, in vain.
And now, see me
as I say goodbye.
It's too late now as I lay here and slowly die.

Lost Love

It has been many years,
But I still love you.
Even after all the tears,
I can't forget you.
No matter how hard I try,
I still want you to be mine.
Your name I will always cry,
because you're always on my mind.
How I long to see your face.
to discover our unknown fate,
And drown in your embrace,
But I know it's too late.
