Mounting

Early morning 
up before the sun. 
I sit in my recliner 
in my high rise 
apartment. 
Watching the day 
begin. 
Traffic buzzing. 
Sky line slowly 
broadening. 
Chasing away 
the cold, 
dark night. 
Relaxed enjoying 
my waking moments, 
time dictates no more 
lounging about. 
Time is fleeting.

a full moon

bigger
than any ego
i've ever seen

to the west
a departing sun
not ready
to surrender
as she blushes
in crimson
splashes

cement stacks
lashing back
lavender streams
against the edges
of duskiness

me
caught 
in the middle
of a battle
over the first
clear skies
this week

stilled
like the air
as the first star
appears 
above

my wishes
now adrift
in the rift
of darkness

Inside a bar in my town
I drown brown sorrows, swilling beer after beer
Feeling tall in my gaunt gown as I play the clown

Which in my Corolla I engage
Thoughts tumbling, feelings grumbling
As mind and conscience I enrage
Fumbling, crumbling, gambling
