Megalopolis Poems | Examples

Premium Member Impressions From An Alien

A kaleidoscope of shapes and colors
Flash through my mind, myriads of magic,
Impressions coloring this mystical world
That is the future, another place in time
Calling to me with voices from silence,
To return from my exploration of earth's
Vast megalopolis where I am the alien,
Where I am the unidentified foreigner.

'Twas a strange place I tell you now
Where strange creatures crawled about--
Thousands of them moving in patterns
Drawn in spaces between their lodgings
Tall towers and pyramid-shaped inverted
Cones where they raise their odd spawn.

Paris today, Venice tomorrow
If I'm out of cash, I'll borrow

The Arc de Triomphe and Louvre
   The Gondola metropolis
I'll sample every famous
   Continental megalopolis

Stroll the Champs-Elysees
   Marvel at glass-blown finery
Smile at the Mona Lisa
Take a tour of a winery...

And when it all has been discussed
    poured over, digested
Without you there to share it
      'Twas for naught

Premium Member Metropolis and Megalopolis

My cousin, Metropolis is jealous of me,
Megalopolis said, at the company tea.

I have more people,
But she has more sprawl.
I think we’ll fix this today.
I have put in a call.

They settled it fast.
They settled it quickly.
Metropolis and Megapolis,
Cousins, comrades, friends,
Settled it smartly and slickly.

And Megalopolis learned there is a lot more hurt
When you bring up in public your family’s dirt.

Megalopolis wants growing whenever,
Even she was full of wealth and honor,
Swallowing lots of loser and goner,
But she's still growing and stops it never.

Megalopolis wants flowing forever,
She washed away people into ruined darkness,
She washed away people from blessed happiness,
But she's still flowing and stops it never.

Yes, people were tired to live in noisy light,
Love was too gloomy, heavy and sticky,
All bonds worked as only restriction to self.

See, people hoped to live in silent night,
Truth was too weak, faith was too picky,
Loneliness was the only way to guard self.
