Softly, she lobbed the serve across my heart
it fell harmlessly on my arm
Intended not to tear me apart
only a harbinger of harm
Her game gained traction soon enough
darts and arrows whizzing ‘cross the net
Stung my forehead where I once was tough
her ringing accusations captured the first set
My counsel – my coach – gave me his advice
not to fight fire with fire, which never works
He’d seen it fail not once, but twice
wouldn’t let me look like a jerk…
Alas and alack, to no avail, as a forehand smash
won her the trophy, the kids, and all my cash

For your children’s sakes, respect and unity is an absolute must.
Don’t be angry with your spouse, listen with a caring ear.
Review often how you fell in love, do it eagerly each year.
A successful marriage is not understood by any others.
Do not take advice from your friends, sisters or your brothers.
Plan some date nights, dress up, go out and howl with your spouse.
When you come home, your happiness should fill up your house.

Ever been asked the question,
can love survive when like is waning?
Can the air be sucked out of the room,
and in one gasp, it be over?
Hoping is never responsible for a happening,
It takes hard work, compromise, and communication.
The goddess of chance, sits astride a stick horse,
When love becomes as wind whispering through dry grass.
You’re “wasting matches trying to light wet wood”
There is none so isolated as those who don’t converse,
Who live together but yet apart.
Lord, help me to answer this kind of question

He came to his dad on the eve of his wedding asking
“Dad, any last minute advice?”
“Any words of wisdom?”
“And please can you be precise.”
“When it comes to your wife,” Dad smiled
“I have a few insights that might apply:
Know when to make her laugh
and know when to let her cry.”
Let her know you will do your best
to never make her frown
to encourage and support her…
and never let her down.
And finally tell her she need not be afraid
because you want it known…
you will always be beside her…
and she’ will never be alone.
A young lad may fear
the coming years
How will he make a living
His elders might
impart this advice
Increase your charitable giving
A young lass may despair
that Cupid cares
to target her betrothed

right back to that pizza in September
