A Mighty Fine Rag

The Wall Street Journal's a mighty fine rag Yet its columns can make your spirits sag Recently, as I was set to retire Its advice I read and nearly expired About whether or not to marry Based on tax advantages ~ How scary!

Imagine that, Line! -- i.e., marrying for something other than the tax advantages!! What is our soppy, romantic culture coming to, anyway?! LOL. Best wishes, Gershon

For hundreds of years, marriages were more of a business arrangement, for practicality - not saying we should return to that, but why not ask those questions before saying 'I Do?'

I couldn't agree with you more, Michelle. A sound financial basis is the bedrock of many fine marriages. No problem there... But to wed (or NOT WED) solely based on the tax advantages accruing thereto?! Gawd! That's a little much for me, I'm afraid! ~ Call me 'Mouth Agape in Chicago' ~ gw

Yes, by all means they are happy... And, I hesitate to ask, solely because of tax advantages?!! I.e., a sound financial footing is always a good basis for any marriage,...but 'tax advantages?' Really?! ~ Call me utterly astonished in Chicago
