If this was the last war
I'd see purged the shadow bombs that press us from sleep
I'd no longer view sky high places that bleed red
to the clouds
but celebrate a rejuvenated land free from the spray of guns
I'd hear church bells careening with the swell of promise
the pull of new movement
gleaming
like the dissolution of sorrow
I'd hear laughter broad, like peacocks preening
and hallelujahs from the lips of orators
I'd invade streets smeared with the joy of dancing
I'd no longer weep at new war graves with poppies on
crosses
I'd see the sacred cord that binds soldiers to their mothers
restored
I'd throw to a meadow sunflower seeds to grow a
Van Gogh
I'd take a hay wagon ride with my lover to debate love's
curvy options
with compassion now a measure of value
for the end of war is like dreams on high volume
that mark the preservation of life
in its most vital form
beyond the reach of forgetting
"You are a volume in the book. A mirror to the power that created the universe. Whatever you want, ask it of yourself. Whatever you’re looking for can only be found inside of you."
- Rumi
It’s written about you,
Someone sees and has a clue,
The sacred book opens the door to light,
This pierces through the night.
Go past the troubles that find their way to your room,
Beyond you is a land of bloom,
Ask what you desire,
Let the sacred truths deeply inspire.
Hope is like blooming meadows,
It lifts the soul out of the shadows,
Elucidate those wondrous dreams on the inside,
Let it be chauffeured by dawn on the outside.
Walk on the bright side of life,
It’s a door out of strife,
We’re vessels of grace,
Faith is the shoe’s lace.
When I entered this pub,
Everything was messy,
Ladies here appeared ill mannered
And their faces old for the job.
Painted in make ups,
Shorts skirts with slits,
Exposing bleached thighs
I pitied with men here,
Spending all their fortune
The music was loud
And the smoke was choking
I said to myself,
"Not more than one glass"
Suddenly, I have lost count,
Not only of glasses, but bottles,
And money to spend
My new language-
"Waiter, one more! "
I think I am Drunk.
Suddenly, all girls are young,
Their skin is tender,
And their moves seductive.
I suddenly, love their dressing
Now they are all beautiful.
I think I am Drunk.
Suddenly, I call on the DJ:
"DJ, increase the volume! "
And to the crowd of smokers,
I shout, "Puff it out! "
I think I am drunk.
Suddenly, I feel so rich,
I move from table to table
ordering waiters to add more drinks.
And when they hail me,
I throw cash at them.
I think I am drunk.
I've Drunk my all
And people have Drunk too
On my bill
I've lost my way,
I've lost my all
And my mind too
I think I am Drunk.
As I want to leave,
I face the barman,
My phone, jacket and car keys
held in custody —
Until I pay the debt.
When you speak to me don't shout.
Don't force your opinion -
there's no need.
Hear the gentle persuasion of
subtlety. The lilting poetry
of seduction.
When you want me don't pounce!
Don't force your masculinity -
there's no need.
Listen to the rhythm of sexual
symmetry. The sensual exchange
of chemistry.
Be gentle in this brutal world;
Subtle tones not garish colours;
sensitive handling of one another.
Its all too loud, too cruel,
too brash, too selfish.
Jagged edges no smooth finish.
Life's such a rush, a dash, contention.
Road racing, no time for meandering.
Turn down the volume.
Freewheel, foot off the pedal.
Power down ego and power up your heart.
Discover sensitivity,
you'll be surprised!
So when you speak to me - don't shout!
There's no need. I can hear you
In the far Far East,
a few strange Hindu temples are intricately carved,
& are most pornographically exuberant,
everywhere there are wrathful-playful-sexual-
vengeful-gesturing-carousing-beckon -ing -
ascending-descending-riding-weeping - flying -
alluring - humping - bumping- twerking -
singing, or just dancing around being the epitome
of gods and
godlings.
Even in hotel America
there is the heady scent of
a rowdy sacredness
as rooms are congested with hyped-up
reveling deities.
The enlightened ones, ride luggage carts
in the dead of night,
sing drunkenly, slam doors,
or watch HBO with the volume way up.
All is a sacred sloppiness.
I was wearing,
Day-Glo speedos in the elevator
while ogling a page
from the Kama Sutra,
doors opened, revealing a giggling goddess,
who seemed to be pointing
to the infante silliness
of everything partly or wholly human.
That was in Muncie Indiana
(a motel space I shared with a rumba dancing Kali
and a bottle of Jim Beam).
The vibe in that room
was almost the same as in those temples.
In the mind-hazed morning,
(skull still aching from Kali's tender affections),
the Tallahassee chapter of the honorable order
of Harley riders
regale me at breakfast
with their juiced-up joie de vivre.
Again the dancing Gods look down upon us;
jovially they beg us
to partake of their abandoned frivolity;
meditating on this
I rise slowly to the seventh floor of hotel Nirvana,
where at last
I meet my omnipresent self.
Today I was awakened by those of media,
Who loudly speak above all the rest.
Conveying thoughts that they were burdened,
By those who failed to pass their test.
They opined with a great volume,
With vocal passion to be heard.
As if theirs was the greatest truth,
And any others was just absurd.
These statements were rooted to sport,
Involving some history and their trade.
While some were viewed as foolhardy,
Though others were just simply made.
Yet through all the gossip and rhetoric,
The players involved are verbally maligned.
Where they needed a fresh new start,
Or they were weighted without anything kind.
This began the free-agency free-for-all,
When dollars exchange more than common sense.
As lives and families are uprooted and moving,
To new geographies, whether offense or defense.
You need a smart phone to get your number.
Take a picture of the square with the code,
answer the text message, “yes I am here”.
My number D106, better take a seat.
The interracial gay couple next to me, are awfully
grabby for 8:45 am, just mind your own business.
But, why doesn’t the white guy have any shoes on,
and why just socks, that when purchased were probably white.
Now serving D100
The rather large lady to my left requires two seats.
Whats the deal with women and tights and what’s is
the largest size available, in purple?
Her perfume choice, ode to yesterday’s cigarettes.
Now serving D101
Mr, I work for the highway department, walks buy and takes a seat.
Neon yellow shirt and jeans say, we were washed four or
five days ago and worn everyday since.
Presumably his wife, who doesn’t do laundry often, sits beside him.
Now serving D102
Two Asian men enter followed by a teenager, maybe a son.
He reads the billboard and explains the process.
Both men remove their phones and follow his instructions.
Three seat together is going to be hard to find.
Now serving D103
Across the way, a family of four, teenage daughter wearing pjs.
A Halloween motif with Michael Myer’s masked face.
Since it’s only mid September, aren’t we rushing the season a bit?
Then again, given the black lipstick and nail polish, maybe not.
Now seeing D104
Now, the shoeless gay guy gets up and jumps at the ceiling.
He’s trying to remove the cobweb hanging in front of the monitor.
Nice try, but at maybe 5’5”, LeBron James he is not.
His partner urges him to return to his seat.
Now serving D105
You know they sent you a notice: Renew by mail.
It even allowed you to do it on line, save a stamp.
But no, the picture was out of date, nearly eight years ago.
So here your sarcastic ass sits.
Now serving D106 “Thank the Lord!”
She’s behind the glass, the remnants of Covid.
Her lips are moving, but no sound is coming through.
I point to my ears and shrug. She increases her volume.
Yes, wish to renew my drivers license.
Sign the application where highlighted and $24.
Wow, 4 bucks cheaper in person, what a deal.
Picture taken, temporary printed, permanent in 30 days.
Outside finally and look down, what a horrible picture.
Screams of a woman being murdered
Woke me up from the loveliest dream
My startled face shook me awake.
Listened harder. My husband has the TV up to highest volume.
He is probably asleep in front of it,
and it has turned itself up for attention.
I close my bedroom door and try to recover my dream.
I was in the middle of a meadow with wild strawberries
Queen Anne's lace and wild daisies. It was delightful!
SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAM!
I jump out of bed and patter into his office.
He is snoring loudly in front of five TVs.
I use five remotes before I figure out how to turn them off.
He wakes up. "Hey! I was watching that!"
I give him the look and go back to bed,
Mad as a tornado now for the meadow is gone,
and my mind is full of violent murderers outside,
trying to get in and get me.
I can only hope they get to him first...
Words, some times be brief
Words, never a full sentence
Words, like those of belief
Words, that bare reference
Words, can be powerful
Words, sometimes stark
Words, those memorable
Words, that leave a mark
Words, not used that often
Words, a whole vocabulary
Words, those left unspoken
Words, never used sincerely
Words, displayed on a sign
Words, that can spell doom
Words, on some great shrine
Words, those that speak volume
Words original idea written back in 2012 then scraped
Then wrote words of belief again scraped this taking elements form both

Hear ye all, henceforth, Let it be proclaimed,
