The Southern Rain

The dry cracked earth moan under its crust while the languishing trees hold firmly beneath its grit absorbing little moisture within its root sending memory of hard time way back to its youth. The grass has dried up in the hot dessert heat and the animals have no place to sleep.

The sun rises in the morning walking with vengeance through the corn field, scorching blades and burning limbs from the shades then sits on top of the roof. It splashes its beam everywhere penetrating the asphalt melting it in front of my bulging eyes.

The heat continue to move around drying up rivers and sucking out water pipes while the busy trucks moving around the town with big water hose, filling the residence drums, bottles, pots and everything that they have got with water.

At nights they open their windows wide, trying to get some cool breeze but only hot hair kept circulating in the atmosphere and the crying babies keeps the mothers up late at nights burping and spewing sour milk on their shoulder while the heat continues to play a brazen rhythm in their feet.

It is a strange heat that is taking over the street, it burns the energy out of man, weakens his limbs and when he goes to the field he can hardly move the plough. It drains his spirit and put nature on the run and so the day went by holding man to his conscience while the curse of nothingness penetrates the earth.

I couldn’t bear to see the drought that is flirting about the earth
Moving between space giving rise to tension and ripping up the emotions. It sets the earth on fire and replenishes the desire, it cause justice to rise to its feet and solve the murder in the third degree.

The suffering was intense and so I had to do something. I walked towards the south and stretch out my hands and hum a song. All of a sudden the skies start to get dark and the birds start moving towards the south, hundreds of them flew in a pack while the old lark lingered at the back.

I know that something was about to happen so I watched it played out and just as I moved my hand the thunder start to shout and lightening respond in seconds. And so the heavens broke loose and fill the southern earth with water.

It was unusual and fateful to stop the car at the traffic light

Marten was such a nostalgic renegade and abided by the law

Hooting middle fingers and then what seemed like a hail storm

There had been no bad weather warning just business as usual

The automobile did not move an inch for bullets from both sides

	Another normal day in Johannesburg

The night closed in on the township in Alexandra South Africa

Small bands of youth roamed the streets for some ‘innocent’ fun

Distraction from unemployment and high on liquor and booze

Kholva did not comply and was gang raped tortured and set alight

Her parents waited in vain and found her brain-dead in the field

Another victim of anger and ignorance

The locks and burglar bars were checked and the shutters were down

Kagiso readied her children for bed while Lerato prepared dinner

Their dogs started howling and tore at their strong chains in vain

Windows burst into one thousand pieces shattering peace and lives

One son survived with a knife in his torso and third degree burns

Not only white owned farms are blazed to the ground

Bavishni worshipped her home shrine of Vishnu the preserver of life

Sandalwood incense frangipani petals and chanting bowl prayers

Diwali spread through the suburb and fireworks were very common

Yet when the shots ricocheted from the Goddesses’ intricate midriff

She knew that her own violation would follow and Nirvana would not

She died painfully like so many others

Violence unimaginable crimes and humans only worth a few coins or a phone

I have left the Rainbow Nation for good in capitulation with a sad heart

Some say I have given up dreaming but pragmatic wisdom saved me from hell

Fugitive From Gossip

terza rima

Years of experience, a discovery -
I can speak without making use of my jaws.
Prudence and patience are rudimentary.

Some folks get their kicks using scuttlebutt claws.
Their tongues' crude vitality comes with closed eyes;
emotional blindness - the probable cause.

Starting with prejudice, they out and out lie.
When asked, I stand silent, comments I refuse.
To their third-degree grilling I can't reply.

Some fake aggravation, crying through tissues.
But demurring to speak, objection I raise.
Honesty is one of many dead issues.

Bidding no farewell, I leave, making my case,
which makes me their next target, no hesitance.
My objection overruled, noise fills the place.

Turning my back on verbal vindictiveness,
this fugitive from gossip needs no redress.

Hubris and centrism are forever hook and mitt
A myriad of players does seemingly afflict
Resenting green eyes now focusing in
Rocks tangled with glass and taken square on the chin

Petulant stance, the recreants cry
Transitorily deuced with an inquisitive why
Posturing accepted, a haughty delivery in the night
Furtive and devious, and not very bright

Mystified clearly, network disrupted
Vista on essence, simply corrupted
Spiteful in pattern, indifferent and rude
Coercion les enlist, poultry and crude

Yeah lesson concluded and left to reflect
Degree obtained, autonomic architect
Every posterior, leered and showcased for thee
Closing of view and this third degree

First Date

You are taking my daughter, O-U-T!
I want to scream at you.
I want to take you and sit you…
down on a bed of nails,
or at least my couch,
and give you… the third degree.
There are other things,
I would give you…
but they are dangerous and have lasting effects.
Yet, you will… tell me the truth!
This is “Our” time together…

You showed up late, that is not okay.
Will you repeat the offense… tonight?
You had best not…, be past the hour…!

Have I told you that I am a baker?
I like to cook, and everything can be burned…
Did you know that?
You should look it up. It is true.

Her father is not here.
That is okay. I can take up the slack.
He is busy in another land,
shooting bad guys and saving the world.
It is important that everything go well here at home…
You, understand? (the tone was rooted in truth)

I sew. Did I tell you?
I can make a bag, a very strong bag.
A sack with a tie, that can not be undone.
It will fit you. I am good with measurements.

Are you nervous?
You should not be.
We can sit, and even pray if you like.
That would be a good start.
If you do not know the words,
I have concerns, for your future.

You need to go back to the beginning.
That is…if you are ever going to leave here…
alive…with my daughter.

Here she is,
(a hushed whisper)
Now say nothing..., and smile.
(poking the poor boy in the ribs)
If she is not happy when she comes home,
You will need to stay again with me…
alone…awhile.

Did I tell you I like to...
(sharpening a long sword,
with a small stone.)

Premium Member Degrees of Laziness

Ladies and gentlemen
I am sure there are,
more than ten degrees
of laziness.
I’m just to lazy
to write them.
Please feel free to add more
degrees of laziness
in your comments below.

First-degree of laziness
People who won’t
do anything,
if they can get
someone to do it
for them.

Second-degree of laziness
Putting off anything,
that needs doing,
Because you don’t
feel like it.

Third-degree of laziness
Taking all the time
in the world, to do,
anything people
ask you to do.

Fourth-degree of laziness
comes when
you feel fine...
calling in sick.

Fifth-degree of laziness
Avoiding work of any kind,
At any time.

Sixth degree of laziness
Placing your Fitbit
on your dog,
to log your steps.

Seventh-degree of laziness
Refusing to learn
what you need to know.
Which includes
reading instructions
or asking for directions
when lost.

Eighth-degree of laziness
Refusing to take part,
in any pleasing sexual act.
(When you don’t give a f**k!)
Not that you can’t
Get it up!

Ninth-degree of laziness
When you refuse
to do the chores
that need doing.
Like Grocery shopping,
Cooking dinner.
Walking the dog
or mowing the lawn.

Tenth degree of laziness
When you are known,
for not returning things
you have borrowed.

‘babes you need UV protection’

from top to tail and midsection

‘I’m African don’t be daft’

quite insulted she laughed

a masterpiece of self deception

but the tan worshipper in Cape Town

decided her skin must get more brown

took a book to sun

but it was ’Shantaram’

now she got blisters and a burnt frown

the sequel is called ‘Mountain Shadow’

900 pages to become quite aglow

thought she reflected her lesson

from scripted obsession

and consumed part two in the snow

she became frosted in flakes and purblind

‘babes some advice if you don’t mind’

the book has dangerous thickness

and then there is altitude sickness

Mount Kilimanjaro can be unkind

now she reads reclined in the boudoir

fact fiction fantasy and mysterious lore

Hawaiian tropic neath pajamas on cutis

sun shades and bedsores on gluteus

and wonders what else reading has in store

should she try with fins snorkel and mask

but corals sting and sharks have a blast

a most unappealing notion

why not apply sun lotion

and make misconception a thing of the past

Friends and family allow you to see
your strengths and faults, through sympathetic eyes;
and never waver, should you disagree.

Even subjected to the third degree;
standing steadfast, they will not compromise:
friends and family allow you to see

Offering unflinching support for free,
they rejuvenate and revitalize:
and never waver, should you disagree.

They applaud your accomplishments with glee,
things that others tend to trivialize:
friends and family allow you to see.

Caretakers of your heart, they hold the key,
to unlock the virtues they recognize:
and never waver, should you disagree.

Pushing you to be all that you can be,
they even defend your outrageous lies.
Friends and family allow you to see,
and never waver, should you disagree.

Santa Is Tired of Burning His Butt

Once a year, I deliver presents to children all over the world.
But sometimes I wonder why I do what I do for boys and girls.
Every time I go down a chimney, I singe my big butt.
Why do I keep doing this every year, I must be nuts.
I wish that Christmas would come in June or July.
If it came when people have no fires, my butt wouldn't get fried.
It's bad enough when Mrs. Claus and my elves laugh because of my gut.
But it hurts when I sit down because I have third degree burns on my butt.
Parents better leave their doors unlocked the next time Christmas comes around.
Because if they lock their doors, Santa Claus sure as hell won't be coming to town.

Feuding Neighbors

I have a neighbor who is obnoxious and rude.
For the last 10 years, we've been having a feud.
When he blew his leaves in my yard with a leaf blower,
I put third degree burns on his butt with a flamethrower.

That punk decided to take a dump in my back yard.
Now he has false teeth because I hit him so hard.
When I was mowing my lawn, he made his Dobermans attack.
I put sugar in his truck's gas tank because I blew my stack.

People tell me to try to get along with my neighbor.
But I want to cut his head off with a lightsaber.
He says that I started the feud but he is wrong.
If we live to be 200, he and I will never get along.
