Giving voice to my dream, my hope, my belief,
Meant silencing doubts who clung like murky mist,
Listening to the light, which banished my grief.

Joy stirred my soul with hope I just couldn’t resist,
Causing me to kiss anxious page with my muse,
poetry revealed the reason I exist.

Pains and sorrows, melancholy sure to bruise,
Reminded me that I could write my way home,
Through the darkest days, dreaded nights who confuse.

Past rhymes, the flowing rhythms, soon the palindrome,
Reasons I became a poet thrills me still,
Blessings rain from my pen, who might gently roam.

Revealing truth, earnest hope to write until
Poems spun from my heart completely fulfill.

The Sun Is Dark the Moon Is Bright

The sun is dark the moon is bright.
I walk in the shadow of the sunlight.
My mind is blank but my thoughts are plenty.
Of a world so sad so empty.
And still I walk in the bright moonlight.
You seem a mirage something I can’t touch.
I am forever getting nearer to you but never reach.
If the sea would drown me in its wake.
I am sure you would save me for our loves sake.
The water so cold and warm so blue.
I dream of the heat of love from you.
I wake from my dreams they make me alive.
Death has been my waking twice in my life.
How much peace does a person need?
How much energy is it to breath?
It’s a chill wind that warms my soul.
But something in my psyche makes me feel cold.
Warm hands that caress me.
Sharpened fingernails make me bleed.
My back is full of your scratches.
From the love we concede in a bed of lies.
We are in no surprise of our disguise.
To not be what we are. But to be what we must.
This isn’t real love soon it will turn to dust.
Theres is never true longing in unpassionate lust.
We part our ways the sun it shines.
Our path is brighter by the moonlight
The crossroad looms as we leave the room.
Never to touch never to kiss
We know it would one day come.
it was something we could not miss.
Just for a moment we try to resist.
But we both know we have lost it.
Love is strange it can be black and white.
Passion is red when we lie in the bed.
But time is time and moments count,
It makes sense to not try to work it out.
We never look back that is the right way.
Tomorrow for us both is the start of a new day.

As fresh and as fragrant, colored hyacinths,
That intoxicates one with heavenly scent.
So may my true, original form of artful poetry,
Bloom and blossom, escaping cells of the past.

To spring into action at each sunrised day!
Not wondering where my poetic desire be.
For truly, as a new child grows free….
And this style takes on its own shape.
I, no longer resist, creating my own fate!

                            ********
Greek Legend has it that Hyacinthus, a young
man from Greece, was beloved by Apollo.
He was teaching him how to throw the discus.
Accidentally, it hit him in the head and killed him.
Instantly!!
Out of his head, the ground soaked with his own
blood, grew the flower, named in his honor of his
Name…. Hyacinthos.
The petals were marked with “Alas”, for sorrow.!

Gazing at the portrait, time's silent gauge,
I recalled a memory from long ago.
Your youthful beauty set my heart ablaze
With figure divine and face aglow .

In days of old,you held me in your thrall
Your charm a force I could not resist.
Now as I stand before this faded wall,
I'm reminded of the joy your presence kissed.

Though years have passed the image so clear,
Of how you once captivated me,my dear.
Your gorgeous form,a sight beyond compare,
And charming visage that made my heart adhere

This portrait speaks of time's relentless march,
Yet in my mind, your youth remains unmarred .

The Computer Screen

Of the items in the store,
All were second hand
An old computer did I buy,
With a broken stand

One side was badly scratched
Two knobs were missing too
But that’s not the story
I’m about to tell to you

T’was about the second week
Of the ‘puter at my place
Sitting there against the wall
Near the old staircase

I recall the night was late
As I readied me for bed
When I turned the ‘puter off,
The screen … it turned blood-red

The appearance caused a start
I gasped a gulp of air
I couldn’t turn my gaze away
I stood right there and stared.

Then a low murmuring
From deep within the set
Cold chills ran over me
I’ve not forgotten yet

A voice, low and menacing
Containing graveled rasps
I could not then stop again
My involuntary gasp

I stood there mesmerized
My gaze remained transfixed
Emotions racing through me
And all of them were mixed

The Voice on the other side
Of the blood-red display screen
Issued a command to me
So ominous and mean:

“Place your hand upon the screen
And repeat these words to me:
Where you are right now,
Is where I need to be.”

I felt my arm move upward
Powerless to resist
I felt a burning in my palm
As the display screen it kissed

I heard a voice and realized
The speaker it was me:
“Where you are right now,
Is where I need to be.”

As the words transmitted,
Involuntarily,
I could feel a change come on …
Overwhelming me.

As I stared in disbelief
My hand – it disappeared
Absorbed into the blood-red screen
As the burning onward seared …

Through my wrist, up my arm
It’s hotness I could feel
Inward was I screaming
Not believing this was real!

In reflection from the screen
I was being pulled into
I saw a face, and then I screamed:
“That horrid face is YOU!”

The rapid assimilation
Continued then until
All feelings were extinguished
And all was calm and still.

A trillion beings there transformed
To tiny bytes and bits
And ‘tis every part of us
All websites now transmits

Now here I am deep inside
This computers’ display screen
If there’s disturbance felt
Oh so sharp and keen

Just place your hand upon the screen
And read these words to me:
“Where you are right now,
Is where I need to be.”

Smile

There is a smile that you just cannot ignore when it comes knocking on your door, there is a smile that you just cannot resist even if you tighten your shoe and clench your fist.

When the burdens of life overtake you and cast shadows all over you, and when you see that smile, it just makes you want to break down and cry.

That smile has the magic touch and that is all you need to get you over the rut, the smile is contagious and the longer you look at it, the more it keeps pulling you in.

Yesterday a man and a woman had an argument and, a multitude descend from nowhere, the people began to gather around watching the angry man shouting at the woman in the crowd and when he saw that innocent smile, he almost collapses on the ground.

What is with a smile when the odds are piled up against you, what is it with a smile when grief has over taken you, you cannot bring your love ones back and it cannot replace your stolen shoes but that smile will melt your heart and pull you straight out of the dark.

I have waited for this day to come when we will be both on the run; I have waited for this day to come when we will confront each other and purge your souls at the promiscuous altar, I have waited for this day to come when we would meet eyeball to eyeball and stare at each other without invoking a brawl.

The message is clear that I will be there and nothing that they say and do will cause me to fear so take courage while you wait patiently over there. The crowd will meet and the irony will complete.

Look at that face as you stand strong in the race. look at that face are you ready to go out on a date, the people are coming, the crowd is swelling and my body is swinging to a familiar rhythm; answer insult with a smile, answer grief with a smile and when you are in pain the smile will knock out all the shame.

The smile is catching and it makes everyone happy come and dine with me and place your smiling baby beside me. Show me your recipe and smile, just work up the courage and smile, a smile can change everything you don't have to sing that long hymn, just smile.

Premium Member In My Opinion

When I was a kid, my county was 'dry'; meaning that alcoholic beverages could not be purchased legally. But there was always plenty of it, because there were home-made stills, and the next county was 'wet'. In my home, it was often seen in the refrigerator, especially on weekends. Seems my occasional stares and curiosity would never end until one day, looking all around less I get caught, I could resist no longer. One sip and I knew that I had never tasted anything stronger. I did not see smoke, but my head must have become a fiery furnish shooting flames from every exit point in my little body. I wondered how anyone enjoyed drinking such wild fire. One sip set my feet racing away from any future desire.

I never saw grandma drink; Mama, once in a while; daddy, every weekend. Some people did bad things when they consumed alcohol; daddy slept a lot. Seems he was nicer toward us, always saying, "I'm going out west where the eagles build their nest". I guess he only desired to go west when he was drinking, because he never moved.

Other than put my daddy to sleep, alcohol served no good purpose in our home. Strong drink consumption and smoking perhaps contributed to his early demise at 58. No, I think that alcohol was a curse and a terrorist that never did anything good in my community. When drinking, people were loud and fought like cats and dogs. Like fools, men drove their cars faster, or staggered all over town acting like clowns. We say that people get high when they drink alcohol, but seems to me they always go low, and sink to the bottom.

Alcohol is one of the greatest abusers; and it is unashamedly villainous. The opinions expressed are my own. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

These Hearts Can Beat Again

Can you still remember
How it used to be
The poetic fire we had
When our pens were chemistry

The dance floor was full
But it was only you and me
Your gentle whisper
How you could set me free
In my mind you were in my arms
Could not resist your sweet charms
Can you still remember

It's not too late
These hearts can beat again
If I can find the words
Girl, just breathe me in
You never know until you try
This could be hello, not goodbye
We could start anew
Make it like before
Your perfect lines
Make me long for more
Until finally then...
These hearts can beat again

Can you still remember
When you were my island girl
Separated by ocean waves
Still we gave love a whirl

You were the painter's canvas
I was the painter's brush
Every stroke was magic
A masterpiece.. My rush
All the inhibitions fell away
Lover's lyric the music played
Can you remember

It's not too late
These hearts can beat again
If I can find the words
Girl, just breathe me in
You never know until you try
This could be hello, not goodbye
We could start anew
Make it like before
Your perfect lines
Make me long for more
Until finally then...
These hearts can beat again

So, God I'm begging please
Down on the floor
See me on my knees
Make it like before
When I close my eyes
Bring me to her coast
Melting all my whys
Until she's so close
That she remembers

It's not too late
These hearts can beat again
If I can find the words
Girl, just breathe me in
You never know until you try
This could be hello, not goodbye
We could start anew
Make it like before
Your perfect lines
Make me long for more
Until finally then...
These hearts can beat again

Note: This write is about two poets who used to have such powerful chemistry that it was almost like a romantic dance. But something has happened to that chemistry.. and the longing poet is pulling on remembrance in the hopes of sparking again what once burned bright.
