Local used bookshop, an easy energy
comforting shelves crowded with tracks of wisdom,
      literature, philosophy, religion, the sciences
even graphic novels, saucy and weighty
fluff, too, for pool side reading
fairy tales of fear and fancy (what does turn pumpkins
                                                          into coaches after all?)
stacks of Natural Geographic, provocative, with
                          indigenous innocence, lands and space
                          undusted spread of news

I walk through zig-zag enticement on floors that creak
         like old folks mating
         uninhibited, protracted browsing
         bookworm's comforting crawl
         steadied nirvana

Do I take a step in a different direction?
buy a cookbook though I've little kitchen recollection
Authors recognizable
         soothing charm in
         brittle, yellow pages
that have passed through protean ages

Gravitational pull of old, in a world where nothing much
         stands still
like wired lives, pushed hard in the making

I'm told that I'm shackled to what's obsolete
to free myself from choke holds past
       like a bookshop, anachronistic

Did I mis-read value? Nourish the inessential?

Outside signs are visible: site cleared for re-development
Demolition seeps (like tar) into our lives
       to strip space familiar
to uproot stakes of what's connective
My aged bookshop, a disrupted treasure,
       worthy of a quiet reverence
       dignity
       before the landscape veers

Protection But Provocation

Protection but provocation
Is unfair this attitude
This provocative protection
I wonder if is written on the forehead
That dark skin colours
Could steal you any time
You come across them

Is unfair this attitude
Hiding your wallet
Holding your pockets
Shifting afar
Just because you saw a dark person
Close to you
Wonder if is written thief
On our forehead
As same I wonder
Who thought you so

Is unfair this attitude
I see out of Africa
In the street bus trams
Shopping morns
This attitude is so not normal
What make dark people
Thieves
Must every dark soul you
Come across steal from you
How is it possible this acts
Of yours
So provocative

Is unfair this attitude
Anyone can steal anyone
And kindness is better
Than perceive instants judgement
Protect yourself yes
But when necessary
From an experience
I pen this write
Just to let know is so
Unfair this attitude of
Protection but provocation

"No sight is more provocative of awe than is the night sky."
                                                                    - Llewelyn Powys

Tonight it seems as if moonlight sings
and stars surround her in nocturnal musings.
Would that I were an angel with feathered wings,
I'd fly to bask within the golden light of her haloed rings

I stood in awe of her without askance
Mesmerized by the sight as if I was in a trance
Agasp of the night's celestial beauty with each glance
I imagined they were enjoying their cotillion with a dance

Suddenly a shooting star took the stage
in a solo ballet, it's swan song earned with age
Brilliantly it gleamed with flames as if it was in a rage
I was breathless watching it glow, then its death to assuage

From shadows, I quietly observed them tonight
watching the heavenly gems shining ever so bright
as the moon glimmered and stars shimmered their light
I was amazed by the magnificence of the breathtaking sight

The Harlot

The harlot
only comes out at night,
to solicit with her curves
and high heels...
money for her abused sexiness.
Lots of cheap perfumes
on her provocative
and tight clothes;
deep red lipstick
on her dry, cracked lips.
Commanding
the glowing moon to walk with her
until morning,
and running fingers in her long hair,
she embodies Venus to lure men.
And the harlot with a blonde-colored strand,
never tires of pacing
these streets giving off their stench,
roaming dark alleys, where owls hoop...
warning her of another danger coming.
The harlot,
spreads a disease that kills,
and those seeking pleasure
are fully aware of the consequences...
so why frequent this loathsome spot?
She wouldn't care less,
as long as her purse is full,
and shots of cocaine thrill her demonic soul;
tomorrow night, this harlot will wear a different dress,
and deliriously laughing...she'll hope to cheat death.

Sofa Chances

A veteran who served this land
Employed by a sofa shop
In Bethesda, Maryland
Made an afternoon delivery stop

Lovely lady came to the door
Wearing provocative dress
He put the couch on the floor
And sat down quickly to catch his breath

He on one end of the sofa
And she perched on the other
Thought he'd move a bit closer
Carefully, like a swimming otter

His first brash move caused him to fear
The sofa made a strange sound
But he wanted to get near
So he stood his sofa-sitting ground

After some agonizing moves
He managed to reach her end
And thought how he might improve
His chances to make her a close friend

He whispered into her cute ear
She shrieked like it was doomsday
"Fool, Why did you stay in here?"
My cop husband is in the driveway

Now he's a very swift runner
But the K-9 had great speed
Cop put him in his cruiser
And drove him over to Walter Reed

After required medical care
And handcuffed to his bedrail
The cop didn't charge him a fare
Just transported him to county jail

The artwork shows a
female gymnast balancing on a pile of rubble
on the side of a building damaged by Russian strikes
The graffiti artist posted three images
the piece Friday on social media,
with a simple caption reading "Borodyanka, Ukraine,"
using an alternative spelling for the town's name

Speculation had been mounting that
Banksy was in the war-torn country after a series of murals
appeared in Borodianka, located about 35 miles northwest of the capital, Kyiv
The town came back into Ukrainian control on April 1
returning residents found their houses ransacked and shops pillaged with windows broken and contents stolen
The letter "V" a symbol used by Russia's Eastern Military district in concert with the letter "Z" an emblem for Moscow's so-called "special military operation" was found painted on buildings, vehicles and checkpoints

Who's Banksy? Clues about the mysterious artist!
Slippery, provocative, mysterious Banksy, the British artist
whose identity is still unknown,
is considered one of the main contemporary street art icons
His art, many times satirical,
address universal issues such as politics,
culture or ethics
In the center of Los Angeles, an "unauthorized" Banksy’s exhibition,
dedicated to the enigmatic artist,
lets visitors dive into the controversial artistic universe
of the most influential creator of present time

Fuzzy Socks and Crocs: Hideous

Sand flows much too quickly in that goldarn hour glass
I'm no spring chicken, but I'll have to take a pass
If a guy thinks he rocks
Wearing fuzzy socks and crocs
That nerdy look is just too dorky for this lass

I've had lots of men flirt with me throughout the years
But one dressed like that and I'd be laughing with tears
He'd make an impression
And from my expression
He'd be very embarrassed by guffawing jeers

There's a rumor about Batman going around
When he saw Robin wearing socks and crocs in town
He swatted him with a "ZONK!"
"Why are ya dressed like a punk?"
"Take those hideous things off or you're going down!!"

I've always admired a man who has self respect
One who dresses with class and style, I'd not reject
I'd call him a silver fox
In well-shined shoes, he walks
But in fuzzy socks and crocs, he'd look train wrecked!

Guys, if you want a lady's provocative glance
Invite her to dinner and then share a slow dance
But remember that your shoes
Will give her the helpful clues
She requires to let your flirting lead to romance

Little Girls

Little girls still living in their little worlds are told to sit pretty, smile wide, and don’t talk back. They are taught to grow up before they should because these little girls go through grow-up things. Little girls in their little worlds are called names for being “too provocative”, but then called names for being “too conservative”. Little girls in their little worlds can’t walk out of the house without being looked at by the male species because they have to change for the men who run this world. Little girls are told to aim high, but not too high because the “chances are low” in a male-dominated world. Little girls are shot down from their dreams before they can even start because who would listen to a docile woman over a dominant man? Little girls get praised when they survive in a male-dominated field but still get paid less than their male counterparts for better performance. Women will never compare to their male counterparts because those same little girls who are told to aim high get shot out of the sky by society’s wicked eye. But, still, we try to survive in this world of unachievable expectations, because, in reality, we want to be seen and appreciated.

Dogma Nation Overcome

Now is the Aquarian Age and its predictable backlash
while America scares the hell into us.
Where culture wars of identity and recrimination
have become silos of information isolation.
Where critical thought and intellectualism
is targeted for finger pointing and 'woke' blaming.
They besmirch compassion under the rubric 'socialism'.
As though democratic socialism is, or has ever been, a bad thing?
Ask your Grandmother if she appreciates her pension?
Do you drive on roads and highways? Obey stop signs?
The inarticulate MAGA twenty first century pledge of allegiance
is fealty to a neo-fascism of religious and race intolerance.
That empowered imperial colonialism and historic xenophobia.
Superiority manifest by God determined righteousness.
Ancient Abrahamic systems that privileged the elite.
Requiring fealty of the conditioned masses
by willing submission, called faith.

Separation of religion and state is a constitutional bulwark.
That is by credence and convention historically obscured.
The prayer breakfast obligatory for success.
'In God we Trust' is stamped on every bag of donor funds
that lobby the integrity of statespersons and politicians.
This is the history of our humanity; this is what we face,
this is what we are up against, these are the powers manifest.
And now we are in a time of critical potential.
Where idealism confronts ignorance
administered by hate, and unexamined faith.
Where jingoism can be 'replaced' by compassionate humanism.
Liberating us from media forged manacles of corporate, state,
or religious indoctrination that still enforce their control.
We rise defiant throughout the world to the Age of Aquarius.
Articulate, and provocative.
Inspired by ideals of Global Unity,
and the 2.0 of humanity.
