Premium Member shine

late on the night preceding Christmas Day
I glimpsed a ghostly shimmer on the snow
and though the moon was shining in its way
'twas something more compelling in this glow

deep in it, I could see the course of years
the strains and pains of humankind thereof
to search the dearer christening of tears
and change the flow of time to render love

my eyes were sore afraid at such a sight
and so too in my heart there grew a doubt
and yet, the beautied power of such light
had placed its peace within me and without

for there, above - redemption from afar -
the grace of heaven, shining … from a star.

Premium Member Memories For a Weakened Nation

I remember as a child at school drinking those small bottles of milk.
I remember feeling posh wearing a tie made out of silk.
I remember running wild under the sun of long summer days.
I remember meal tickets at school so I could eat and educate my brain.

I remember the Yorkshire hills covered with three feet of snow.
I remember those stuffed snakes at the door to keep the cold winds out.
I remember playing cricket with all the Pakistani boys for days and enjoying every single minute.
I remember using lollipop sticks to make my racing bike sound like it had an engine on it.

I remember the hours of fun we could get out of nothing but our own imaginations.
I remember going into Woolworths to stock up on mixed sweets before the ABC matinee opened.

I remember feeling free and not worrying about Covid
I remember camping at Padstow and the preceding eight hour un air-conned journey.
I remember shaking hands when I said hello to perfect strangers.

I remember the pride of Jessica Ennis winning gold on that magic Saturday for our nation.
I remember England in a time when when work felt secure and stable.
I remember my country when honour, pride and dignity were words with meanings that mattered.

I remember the NHS before it was its budgets were stolen and it’s staff were so cruelly shattered.
I remember feeling good knowing that poorer people could get good state aid
I remember being able to go to university because a grant for me was made.

What the hell happened?

The Storm Comes at Midnight

The storm comes at midnight
It will be quite a sight if I’m right
Preceding it barely a sight will make many angry and scared
The sight could be anything
…
Ha! Yes, even to those prepared
… You seem confused, let me explain
Lightning will flash in the sky
Which likely will be the revealing of a terrible lie
But truly it will all start with a single voice
Then everyone will have a choice
With the crack of thunder
Every person will choose which side to try to drive asunder
…
Hmm?
…
Now you see I’ve been thinking about this quite a lot
I know being saved will not be bought
You see in an ironic way it is kind funny
What’s coming will be beyond money
…
Ah yes! I’m glad you asked
After the horrible thundering
Worse will come
The storm will hit
As broiling black clouds roll over
Rain will strike the faces already damp
As the angry clouds weep in furious pity
Ribbons of red will wave in every city
… Do you fear?
…
I’m dearly sorry
But here comes a worse part
See the beginning was merely an inevitable start
In comes more lightning and thunder
Each striking with sorry fury
No one away will scurry
…
Because they don’t want to
…
(Sad sigh) Yes… yes… we are all just sorry little fools
…
Ask me more than just “Why?” Elaborate
…
Ah, yes
See the lightning is the light to see
But the thunder is the response
Funnily enough the reveal is destruction’s key
The light does nothing but begins what will come
…
Yes this is the storm
You might wonder how could this have so much damage
Surely the world isn’t in such an unprepared form?
Fools!
Not just you! Look around! Why is it you think we’re so perfectly steady?!?
Not only are we ready with no preparation
It’s been that way so long I can see the clouds already!
Dusk is already past!
Midnight is just an hour off!
…
What?
…
Is it too late?
… No
No it is not
So what are you going to do?
Or, more importantly, is it worth saving?

Talking Cure

The sky was missing
The moon was missing
The young boy was sick
Down with nagging fever
Empty clouds hovered

As I sat close to him
Some dry leaves smiled
I took him into my arms
Fondly cradled the moment
Moved my hand gently over his body
Gazed at him smilingly
Cradled him in my arms
Tears pooled in the two glistening eyes

As the regression went on
Little flashes of green
Peeked from under the leaves

I had gathered a little history
Preceding the ailment
I kept caressing and chatting
For about half an hour
Green leaves grew, though few
And at the guava tree a robin too

The medicines continued
Next day I heard he was better
And in a few anxiety-free days
Was perfectly well

I must mention before I finish
The boy, when a child,
Since birth until he was three months
Had been in warm physical touch with me
Cradling associations are always a cradle

First one in everyone knows,
Last one in the one everyone tip toes.
Thirsts something everyone knows,
Glass out for a drink but nobody passed the hose.

Is dying living forever,
Who really knows?
Breathing in fire,
Singing to see the ashen snows.
I’m trying to live until whenever,
Only the tombstone will ever really know.
Sleeping post sun rising,
Feeding trees bones as we decompose.
Nothing more Romeo than watching my eyes close,
Nothing but poetry that nobody knows,
But the smile on my face still always shows.
The smile that’s stuck in place,
The face that always stays froze.
Dial in the number you haven’t for days,
Listen to the ringing preceding the tone.
Stare out the window to the summer haze,
Go outside,
Playing in that ashen snow.

Let your palms be the last twilight,
Which covers my heart with the shroud of repose,
Draping the white silence, an ancestral vestment, at dusk,
Rest that descends over a world forgotten by the living.
May your gaze, the everlasting starry night,
Illuminate the universe that has lain in eternal slumber,
There my soul ascends and in turn ties its wing,
Where peace and the eternal dream have become sacred allies.
May your voice be the vessel of the breezes,
Carrying me to islands where time has woven silence;
The roof of the seas a muted bell, a proclamation,
That the mystery of prayers has quietly unveiled, in its reverence.
Your hair, let it be the willow on the downing evening,
Where echoes of warmth and sweetness still quiver,
Voices of memories in galleries of dreams, hidden and still alive fly,
Getting lost and found in the embrace of day’s end.
And let your soul be the kiss on my cold eyelids,
Unveiling in its clear light, a truth profound and pure,
And every tear dropped, a thought of crystal calling me,
Is the hour preceding a destiny, a future already signed on the horizon.
Our love, late yet so intrinsically natural,
Be the wave that raises us and carries us in song,
Toward eternal shores, in symphonies of sweet pure harmony,
Where love is woven with immortality in the sacred and sweet duet.

Premium Member Exsistance of One

I position myself in argument
With attitude towards
A particular issue,
During this period of time
Preceding one's ability
To make considered decision
And come to a sensible conclusion
Expressing the relationship
Between my being and the value
Of time.

I am a creature of the universe.
A phenomenon
Of the physical world,
Extending beyond reason
And understanding of the
World or state of things
As they actually exist.

I'm no morbid twisted sister
But I appreciate the gloom.
Fill the sky with smoke and fire
Make me think I’m doom.
Fill the clouds with obnoxious gasses
And deadly toxic fumes.
Make me sense the world's end
Is relatively soon.
Knowing time is more than night
I won't die without a fight.
My love for life is in my hands
And I will live my final stand.

Little Fire

I witness you fading away,
The winds blow frantically
They are against us, as all are

Little fire, rise in my cupped hands
Be it my life I shield from the elements so unfeeling?

Little fire, brighten as I feed you
This moisture receding from my pores must cease
Before I drown this diminishing beauty

I gasp,
Surprised at the howls and retorts of this icy tempest
Nature’s exhalations mean to end what must naturally end
My hands shake
Little fire—my life!
—I must keep you alive!

Grow against all odds
Against the screaming whirlpools of bluster
Against the torrential tears that mean to overcome you
Against the ashes that can only watch the desolation around you,
As you search for more fuel to masticate

My flesh is no treasure to me,
So lick me deep, my flame
Devour these hands that shield you
Rise hastily, as you burn
 Ascending up my arms,
Lighting every goosebump, shriveling every hair
Rise till I am all aflame in this wilderness
Boil and evaporate every murderous tear—
The fluids of sorrow that so pulverize purpose
Eat through every sinew, and every tissue,
Every muscle and every bone that has grown
For this moment and this moment only

I give you every piece of me, little fire!
So that my spirit, finally free, shall rise to the heavens
Past the shrieking winds, preceding through the jeers of thunder
I give you my all, blessed fire!
So that these eyes may witness every storm die
And I may laugh at their futility!

Gunslinger

Gunslinger

I swung the doors open, hard and loud
My view was hindered by the cloud.
Of smoke and ash in hand and tray
As I darkly stood in that old doorway.

Dried blood 'n stale beer spotted the floor.
They told of bad stories while predicting more.
It was their place, I came from afar.
I was the stranger in the ol' folks bar.

I wasn't like 'dem, ol' regular folk.
I came with a holster not proverbial joke.
My face was grimy, my spurs showed rust,
I groaned, I shouted, and 'den I cussed.

She saw my move, it preceding her scream
Now before her eyes one horrific dream.
My hand with pistol rose into place
She lifted her arms and covered her face.

I downed my whiskey, 'da final drop
Everything slowed, then came to a stop.
I fired first once and again now twice
Then I left that ol' bar and 'dem two dead mice.
