Premium Member Expectations

Expectations of the newly wed
Are higher than the sky,
To live in passion until they're dead
With life as easy as pie.

Expectations change with the years.
A more subdued view is found.
Through the ups and downs, smiles and tears
We expect our love to stick around.

Expectations years after the vow
Revolve around loyalty and trust.
Love is rarely mentioned now
But companionship is a must.

We expect our mate to be true
And to be there by our side.
To comfort us when we're blue
And till the end of days abide.

Those expectations of our youth
We've forgotten along the way.
We've settled for a different truth,
That the romance doesn't always stay.

Premium Member Mother's Worry Lines

Mother dear, I recall the many worry lines upon thy dear face.
Oh, that if time I could reverse and them from thy face erase!
Forgive me Mother dear if I caused you any undue despair.
Forgive me Mother dear if I etched my share of them there!

You struggled to see your family through the Great Depression.
To see to the needs of your family was thy sole obsession.
You saw us through sickness and health - to that I can avow.
I know that this alone carved worry lines upon thy brow.

In my feckless youthfulness, too many times I let you down.
I saw disappointment on thy face and thy disapproving frown.
If only I had the power to turn back the clock and erase,
Those worry lines that I caused to crease thy noble face.

I rue the many times that I gave you unnecessary sass.
Those hurtful words from my mouth were so terribly crass.
It gives me peace to know God erased those worry lines from your brow,
When He welcomed you Home where you rest at peace with Him now!

Premium Member Such Naughty Trickery

three wicked moons ago, we flew to a halloween get-away
on the beach island frilled with dangling bouquets.” no
costumes , please”, the invitation loudly read.. so off i went,
the brood still washing their heads… in simple sundress, my eyes
kept singing la-la-la. the hall was empty, freaky lights went off. in a flick,

witches were brewing black, fangy cats... a lady gaga
spiking screams, then came a judas hanging on a centipede tree,
by the false door, tattooed skeletons dancing squeaky reggae.
suffocating in a terrorized room, i hollered,” where’s my family!!”
what a viciously naughty night! they were all dressed in
ghostly ghoul and goblin witchery, tickling my almost bare body
just behind me… oh well, it’s october’s time to slay the night
and i was the pawn, the surprised victim, crackling with nervous delight

Premium Member Morning Dew Ball

The Dew Ball

Early in the morning I rise and make a cup of tea,
The windows are covered with dew, nothing I can see.
I step onto my deck to let my dog have a run outside,
There’s a gallery of art exhibits awaiting for me to imbibe.

Spiderwebs painted with dew dressed in shimmering glass,
Droplets glisten on petals, at this moment beauty is on mass.
Water hangs tenuously from the tips of cacti standing tall,
Harmony of colour serenades my soul, it’s my morning dew ball,

Within a short time my ball starts to disappear from sight,
The sun rises higher and the yard slowly loses it’s delight.
Like Cinderella and her glass slipper, only a few traces remain,
I close my door, retreat inside, if lucky tomorrow I’ll see the same.

Kuwait

1977. Was the Queens Jubilee, also eventfull year
flew down from Teeside to London Heathrow, for an overnight stay
an onward journey to Kuwait, my father prime in the proffession he did
scaffolding coordintor, myself and sister Tracy were only kids.

Not many children get an oppertunity, stemming a family memory
weeks rolled on, settling into school, became normality.
I couldn`t put into perspective,developing indepth
pining for home, muslim life portraying what i missed.

However, amongst the feelings of uncertainty, and meeting my new mates
building dens behind bungalows, from old shipping crates.
We would attend The Hubara Club,an update leisure complex
untold amounts to occupy youths, skateboarding main context.

Not forgetting my mother, and mundane everyday tasks
muslim laws preventing, normality, has to ask
simplicity took for granted, from showing arms of pale
amongst kuwaiti public, the women wearing veils.

Christmas that year, will be forever etched
an altercation between perants, that i`d rather not fetch.
Kuwait a beautiful country,Twin Towers of Ahmedi
without sounding ungrateful, home i`d rather be.

Premium Member Awed and Amazed

I stand in awe and contemplate nature's beauty
Deep within I feel a very real sense of duty
Awe that I can marvel at a butterfly's flight
Then from my heart be able of butterflies write

I contemplate how plants can sustain survival
Especially when it is such a dry year all upheaval
Yet God the great designer knew just what to do
To assure food, beauty, life as seeds strew

I muse on little happenings in nature
As a water droplet trickles down to nurture
Small creatures of the early morn and give sup
As they can drink from the leaf as if a cup

I meditate on God's goodness at these times
In His presence I humbly bow and flows rhymes
This meditating releases stress worry in time
I can feel the touch of the Great Sublime

I understand there is a Supreme Being
When I look at his creation I am agreeing
Of his forethought on making the earth
With all its beauty, constancy and rebirth

I stand in awe at the wonder of it all
From the Grand Canyon to an ocean squall
I stand in awe at the mountain ranges capped with snow
Of God's love for those in the valley below

the painting

The Painting

When she left, it was late in the evening
on the snow-covered path to the street
her footprints were not visible
On the road, there were too many
footprints to recognize if any of them
belonged to her
years like layers of wood stacked up when
I saw her in a painting by Paula Rega
So many suffering women abused by men
and their desire to be loved, causing them
to fall into hardship
They survived while I suckled on a nipple
another woman, risking her future in
the hope of love where there was none
the endless poverty doing others' laundry
hands red bloated a ring of promise, not
kept, impossible to remove.
these are the women who do not leave
footprints in the snow
Paula Rega gave them a voice, reduced
the men who had lost what they thought
was love, to fear ghosts in the longest night

Oh little one so brand new, The hurt and pain that will follow you. As you grow the kids will tease, As you all play in the school yard breeze. Older and older you will get, As you must learn not to fret. Time will come and time will go, Being adopted will not let you know. Some of you are considered Black Sheep, So some of you are meant to weep.
