Wow! As we would colloquially put it,
You are really one man of grit!
You seem to be the only guy
Who’s got no time even to cry.
Just imagine, in a day
Everyone wants to know your say.
You’ve got to speak, you’ve got to write –
Are you the only one who’s very bright?
And you’ve got to be present everywhere
Especially when your boss’s there.
In a jiffy you’ve got to speak
Why is that you tend to squeak?
Legal matters, contracts, too,
Inquiries, finance - are statements true?
Then open files and through them pore;
Are there skeletons behind the door?
God help me! I’ve erased a file,
Tensions rampant, vanish’d’s the smile.
Oh Lord Almighty, let me out of this mess,
A real tough job – I do confess!

Forbears,Edie,Kate and Ann furnished apiece with brush and pan. Each
Victorian 'Miss' tied in service's abyss.Far off days, now long gone, their toil each
day was lengthy and long. With fires to light, floors to scrub, and carpets to brush
and drub.Mops forbidden,as they smeared the dirt and begrimed their prim
alpaca aproned skirt. They cleaned 'his' tub, emptied 'her' commode,a regular
chore in a housemaid's daily load.Must rise at six but never to mix and no matter
what, keep a stiff upper lip.Never lose your cool,a formal curtsey the perpetual

When the wind of change
Comes blowing at your door
When you don't know what's good anymore
Do you take the leap
They say you sow what you reap
When the gale blows and you can't see
Confused you don't know where you should be
You worry about the change
Because some of life you will have to rearrange
New is always good they say
But it can be worse in a bad way
It came out of the blue
My husband wanting something new
I must say I am totally confused at this change
I found it even a little strange
One day for no reason
One day in this spring season
The storm hit our door
Wondering if we are in for a hurricane or maybe more.
Summer days in a mining town
Lunch box sitting by the kitchen door
Whistle blows at the Colliery
Time for work, all my muscles sore
Long day’s work for little pay
No complaints, we’re doing fine
Wednesday, got a half day off
Have a few beers, forget the mine
Down inside that mine we give it a go
No panic here, no need to be hurrying
Mice are moving kind of slow
I’ll start to panic if I see them scurrying
The Colliery overshadows the town
Sometimes causes a bit of strife
A sense of pride putting that hammer down
For a miner it’s a way of life
Wife stays home to raise the kids
When that alarm goes off sometimes she’ll cry
Town waits quietly to hear the news
There’s a self-respect that money can’t buy
A constant struggle from day to day
Months pass quickly and the bills come due
Most times they are larger than the pay
But somehow, Thank God, we make it through
Though the times are hard trying to make ends meet
We get a perspective of what’s important in life
Our riches aren’t measured in the material things
They are children, good neighbors and a loving wife
There is a brotherhood within the town
A sense of belonging, a sense of pride
The colliery may have been shut down
But the spirit of the miner has never died.
Tamaqua, Pa. USA in the 50s.
I kneel on the dusty battlefield,
my eye catches a glint of the tarnished sword.
The glint blinds me, my mind
fills itself with memories from long before.
I, a young boy, am riding on a youthful pony.
My body trembles with this new wonder,
as the pony’s smooth gait prompts me
to kick its sides, increasing speed…
Next, I, the adolescent esquire, follow my mentor loyally
into this new, brutal land
where bloodshed is common,
beyond the shelter of the castle…the battlefield.
The sight of men at other’s mercy chills me.
Arrows pierce the ill willed,
as they fall like salty tears onto
the blood-stained earth.
Yet I know my duty is to serve another,
older and wiser than I.
This harsh land haunts me as I refill
my mentor’s quiver of arrows
and adjust the gleaming helmet upon his head.
My visions of the past clear like a herd of untamed horses,
my eyes beseech my mentor.
His worn gaze tells of the many battles he has fought,
but wisdom shines in his eyes.
The sword taps my shoulder,
like the touch of a seraph of heaven.
He claps my shoulder,
as if to remind me of the dark times ahead.
“You, young man, are my equal,”
said he, “upon this field your courage
has proved your worthiness-a noble
knight you shall be.”
The coward in my heart screams for redemption,
yet this new being-the knight-in my spirit
raises me to my feet
and takes me back to the castle, where
good times-along with brutal-await.
Just a day in my life,
So there I was, after being at home for a year
stepping into a community centre
With no experience, just my wit and big mouth
from being a secretary, a position of project coordinator was created
so little me, could hone my skills…
The most rewarding part would have to be
The privilege of working with abused women
their stories were scary,
sometimes crying with them seemed to be the best option
To comfort them, words were never enough
but in the end they stepped out,
Some went back into the situation,
While others who stayed strong became the success stories,
My sincere hope is that those that went back, have been empowered to know
That it’s not supposed to be that way...

Standing on a hill of Jezreel,
Watching growing corn in the field,
Listens she does to the birds’ song
And to the trilling crickets’ chirp.
The sun now pass the most far hills
Means the days’ work is over and done.
Soon the night guard will shut city gates
And all eyes will yield to the dark.
By music of the spirit of silence,
The visions of rest are made to dance.
Then in the middle of the darkest night,
She arises from slumber and the bed,
And leaves the sweet relaxing visions
She had waltzing through her head.
Laying aside all her night garments,
Off she runs to her nightly chore.
Running around the corn they planted,
Makes her sacred circle ‘bout the field.
Magic footsteps giving blessing
By her dance and dark undressing.
Soon passed the summer season
And away went her warmest sigh.
Corn in green and golden garments,
Stood in ripened splendor gleaming.
With its emerald sheaths bursting,
Send its gold rays into the sky.
To the harvest come young maidens,
To strip the ears of their garments,
Laughing under the spreading trees,
They sing the blessings of Jezreel.
Why can't she learn to do that right?
You'd think that she'd know better.
Someone should tell her what to do,
To hone her each endeaver.
What is he doing over there?
He should be over here.
He should be told where he belongs,
And make it very clear.
She never does as she is told,
Although I've tried and tried;
What she should do and how and when,
I took it all in stride.
I spoke to her, I spoke to them,
To bring her back in line;
But she is stubborn, wants her way,
But she will learn in time,
That I am right and she is wrong,
I'll teach her that I know,
Much more about her work than she,
I'll tell her where to go.
It seems my help and good advice,
Is just ignored and spurned.
I only want the best for all,
The best for all concerned.
I guess my help's unwanted,
But if 'twere put to test,
They all would see that I am right,
And my way is the best.
No matter where you go or what you do you're going to find some people in the world who think they know more about eveything than anyone else and they will do their best to force their opinion on everyone they come in contact with. Th ebest way to handle someone like this is to give them a wide berth. Stay aloof but friendly in a distant sort of way. However, don't hesitate to let them know you cannot and will not be bulllied because this type of person capitalizes on your weakness. Whenever they start something with you it's important to make sure everyone knows exactly what was said and done when it happens so you don't end up looking the fool instead of them. When they find out that instead of keeping quiet you will fight back using their own methods against them they will back off and leave you alone.
In the league, you are considered among the greats.
What an awesome force being a woman on roller skates.
As the team’s captain, there are no harbored fears.
It all seems routine from performances done for years.
The fans have loved you since graduation from training school.
They all come to see “The Queen” thinking you are cool.
What a sound the wheels make going around the track.
With the other girls, you spearhead the attack.
In a sixty-second jam, you skate past the pack.
Attempts are made to get as many points as possible.
How you skate at such a fast speed is incredible!
What a big attraction you are at any rink.
When this game is over, why not join me for a drink?
