Snow Angels, Snowpeople, and Evergreen Trees
When winter comes, children know how to have fun.
Laughing and catching snowflakes with their tongues
Or lying flat on their backs with arms flapping up and down
While swinging their legs in and out in unison,
Then carefully standing up to step out of the area
To marvel upon the angel shapes they’ve created.
Or roll sticky snow into balls piled upon each
To form snowpeople with stickily arms and no feet,
And coal chunk eyes and smiling lips, and buttoned-up chests
And old scarves wrapped around their necks,
With carrots for their noses and old, worn-out hats on their heads;
That almost made them look real, so the children nodded and said.
And evergreen trees they love to decorate to the hilt,
With pretty ornaments, hanging icicles, and tinsel strings,
And swirls and twirls of twinkling lights wrapped around the tree
And a star of wonder, shining innocently, adorning the top,
With presents underneath wrapped in colourful tissue paper.
The first one to sleep is the first one to rise, come Christmas morning.

When I was six or seven my mama had a friend,
Who thought quite highly of herself and liked to play pretend.
When she came over seemed to me she noticed everything,
From a little dust here or there to condition of window screens.
Mama shooed me and Smokey from the kitchen while she cleaned.
Smokey went to her bedroom and climbed on her dresser to dream.
Mama's friend came over, her nose high in the air.
I thought she looked like a hound dog, sniffing for a hare.
She ran her fingers along the sills, inspected the cup Mom proferred.
She chatted about the things she owned, the places she had toured.
She talked about her family line, her neighbors and her friends.
Mama smiled and nodded, I sat there and grinned.
They were going out that day to shop and see some sights.
Mom left me with Sister and told us not to fight.
She went into her bedroom to dress and fix her hair.
You should have seen the lady's eyes as she spied him lying there.
Smokey lay there very still, curled up in a ball.
"What a beautiful fur piece! So lustrous, black and all!
I want one just like it! I hope that you don't mind!
Why everyone would envy such a piece so fine!"
"Why it would go with anything! You must tell me where you got it!
It really must have cost a bit!" then she reached out to touch it.
Smokey stirred and stretched his frame and opened amber eyes.
Her mouth fell open and she stared in startled, shocked surprise.
"That's no fur piece, that's my cat!"I told her in indignance.
I gathered him into my arms, the cat stared in indifference.
It felt good to see her shock, her voice for once unheard.
The only thing she thought to say was simply,"Oh My Word!"
Mama laughed until she cried as she told Dad the story.
Dad gave the cat a bit of fish and said,"Perhaps, 'bout him, we should worry."
It was a frozen winter made for cardigans and hot toddies
she my mother, my first teacher, was feeling sad
about what she couldn't say for she could not recall
I sat by her bedside and flipped through the old album
and while she nodded she silently, cried ...
" Tears are like the quiet drift
Of petals from some magic rose
And grief yet flows from the rift
Of unremembered skies and snows"
"Was he my husband?" she asked me with a vacant stare
I quietly gave my consent then placed a hand on her frail shoulder
"can we go get some ice cream?" she asked
a grown child with a smile that I could not efface
The sun went down and as we sat in the cafeteria round
we ate vanilla ice cream from plastic cups
and watched the sun go down on the wintry hedge
"Vanilla kisses for my Princess, Rosy ones for my Lady"
That was what dad used to say to us each day
but tonight, she couldn't recall a thing that he would say.

A couple who’d been married for a few years were sitting together
listening to music one day…
when Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl…on the radio began to play.
“It’s one of my favorite songs!” He said.
Which was something she already knew.
“Because, every time I hear it,” he said and she mouthed,
“it makes me think of you.”
“I know it’s one of your favorite songs.” She said,
“But when I hear it I’m always a little frustrated.
because I know a different brown eyed girl
was the first girl you ever dated.”
“That first brown eyed girl and I were together a lifetime ago.” He nodded.
“But now that we’re together here’s something you should know…”
“I shared a couple months in high school with her…
but you and I are sharing a life!
I chose that brown eyed girl to be my girlfriend…
but I chose you to be my wife.”
It’s been many years since that moment…
but…to this day…something they both notice is…
now, whenever that song comes on the radio…her smile matches his.
Sometimes they sit and listen to it quietly…
Sometimes they dance…with a dip…maybe even a twirl…
and she’s been happy knowing all this years
she’s been his brown eyed girl.
Hundreds of years ago, people come and go
And out of many occasions where people go
Life was not as plenty before as it is today.
Life then may be hard, but people don't forget to smile everyday.
One day when some people thought of praying and kneeling,
"What is the purpose of bowing or bending?"
Each week, one person from every family goes out and asks everybody around
Every person asked either nodded or said, "I don't know why? I'm just new here and playing around."
Nation as a whole continued playing, kneeling and praying, bowing and bending.
In time, people from every nation thought of something else.
Time and again people started to scare each other to prove that "boring life" is not everything else.
In the modern times, if you don't scare people, you don't care much.
So, scaring people is a sign of love...
if love or life is valued and respected.
How "Halloween" was coined? Think again... you will know the reason why!
To scare and to be scared can be therapeutic for cardiac exercise.
However, it is never intended to hurt, harm or demoralize people. It is a human behavior or habit for some, but was not designed in life
to promote enmity or instigate evil. It should be not be practised
to ignite chaos and never to build tension or heart attack.

He consulted a warlock, a wizard, a priest and a witch.
The witch finally asked “did you pick up something you shouldn’t have?”
He thought about this and remembered.
He had collected seashells, sticks, rocks, and soil from a national park.
"Kind of", he admitted.
“From Volcano National Park?” the witch asked him.
He nodded yes.
“You have to send it all back. Then your luck will change.”
He had not taken anything important, but his luck had changed.
His child had nearly succumbed from Covid-19, his wife left.
Sales were down by forty-six percent since he returned to the mainland.
He refused to do what she asked at first.
Then his mother and two uncles died.
A voice in his head said “send it back; send it back.”
When the box arrived at the post office in Hawaii they loaded it into a truck.
Heading for the beaches and the forests, to return all ninety-six boxes together.
After his items were returned to the national forest, order was restored.
His business perked up, and his wife returned home.
He decided to never pick up souvenirs again.
The witch had been spot on.
because she had done the same thing
years earlier....
Damon did not think he had any goodness left to give
But Angela discovered a flash of compassion in his eyes
He turned away, feeling undesirable and undeserving.
An ethereal touch on his arm was a gift from this tender angel.
He looked up into her light blue eyes and fell deeper than deep.
Her skin was alabaster; she looked like a freshwater mermaid.
Her smile lit up the bar, and set his heart on forever after.
You don’t want to talk with me, he said. I am too mean for you.
A tittering giggle escaped her, and he could not stop looking at her lips.
They were spread wide. She was fearless, wild for a gift from heaven.
Seriously, the old cowboy said. I am the devil, you can do better.
Tell me your story, Angela urged him. I want to hear it.
Damon’s face turned more rugged which she did not think possible
She laughed again, which concerned him. He was usually scary, right?
His wall mask almost slipped, but he caught, it, trying to frighten her off.
She could not be frightened though, being from heaven and all.
Are you by chance a country girl? He asked her, hoping to aggravate.
Her eyes were dazzling globes now. She nodded, her hand to his neck.
Do you have brothers? He asked her. He was starting to feel less evil.
No, she admitted. Is this bothering you? Boy, was it!
Charlotte had never felt so pretty.
Barely 16, she was totally in love
With an online stranger.
Her parents did not know.
This emotional affair was kept quiet
She was afraid sharing it would dissolve the magic
His texts were flattering; he told her she was beautiful.
She loved reading what he was writing.
What is up with you? Her best friend Claire asked.
You cannot stop smiling.
Suddenly she had a thought. “Are you in love?”
Charlotte nodded.
With whom?
Charlotte said, “I can’t tell you.”
Her handsome prince arranged to meet her
In the middle of the night.
She was to tell no one.
She felt uneasy, so she asked for his photo.
The stunningly handsome face took her breath away.
No man deserved to look this great!
She agreed to the meeting.
Two a.m. seemed odd, but she had no fear.
Their email correspondence had been loving and tender.
He was a romantic; and she was in love.
That night her heart was beating furiously.
She was pulled into a van.
By someone who looked nothing like the photograph.
She was hired out as a sex slave for the ten years.
No one could find her.
A party scene, in
Senryus - from last March, when a
party could happen.
He looked at me
like a treat. “You,” he said,
are looking hot girl!"
“I’m only hot in
in the dazzling reflection
of your lust,” I said.
“Then you’re on
FIRE,” he said as he put
his hands on my hips.
“Your girlfriend’s looking,”
I said, - she and I nodded.
His hands retracted.
He brushed his hair
back over his ears, "some
other time.” he said.
“He was set to jump
you,” My friend Kim teased, "No,
not really.” I shrugged.
"You disappointed?"
I snorted "yeah right,
His GF was watching."
"OH!," Kim realized,
"You were posing!! You're
STILL a virgin - I KNOW!!”
“SHUT UP!!” I laughed,
putting a hand to her lips,
“That’s secret info!”
“Sophomores are
ALWAYS virgins.” Kim said, “Not
Lisa, of course."
We turned, smiled,
and waved at Lisa - she
was dating three guys.
Kim says, “She could give
us both one.” "Leftovers," I
said, “should mean pizza.”
Too weak to utter words,
and unable rise her sunken eyes,
this is what my aunt Lucy told mom
on her deathbed when sunlight
struggled to enter the dark room,
" Endure grief with faith...
think of the glory you'll see!"
" God will welcome you to Heaven...
your struggle will end by night!"
Silently she resigned to her fate,
and turning her moribund head she nodded,
accepting the final agony coming upon her...
and everybody's tears had to be released,
to show her the affection and the love nurtured
by obedience, kindness and sincerity.
To watch her die, made us aware of our own vulnerability,
which will face on our darkest day with or without comfort...
blessed are the ones being consoled by prayers,
making their grief bearable until their breath stops;
blessed was mother to have seen angels rapture her...
when her heartbeat could no longer be heard!
Her spirit rose up as they carried it with caution
to the blissful place of angels, martyrs and saints...
because she lived a Christian life of truth and sacrifice;
and mom will certainly remember how we squeezed her hand,
comforting her without showing the intensity of sorrowful emotions
as we whispered, " Mother, you have loved us dearly...so have we!"
