Father now journeys
into afterlife destination alone,
October 7th, 2020 mid afternoon
with Earthlings ministration did attone
where night envelops his lovely bones
rendered devoid of any groan
courtesy Roxanol (morphine)
and Ativan finding him prone
to experience painlessness, and no
his dying wish, plus last will and testament
won't include burial and/or headstone
cuz, he wants to integrate and did intone
cremation as ecologically friendly option
scattering ashes to parts known
someday... yours truly will too
succumb to the dead zone.
Stark reminder to live fully an urgent yen
to live life fullest between now and when...
ever yours truly exits

near accursed immortality longevity totaling even
score of years counting (crows)
and father time among his brethren.
Distress unavoidable which mortality doth bring
nevertheless, tis impossible mission
to eradicate pain and suffering, which doth sting
consolation assuages grief, viz prayer
and buttressing coping with spiritual wing
profound absence augments biting zing.

shunned, ostracized and banished to Xando.
I imagine there are many things about my grandpa I have forgotten once he passed and my life continued on its way…but the memory of his smile, I know, will never fade away.
His smile wasn’t something you could miss…it was out there for everyone to see…I noticed it when he was looking at Grandma…and sometimes when he looked at me.
One day, when I was still young enough to sit upon his knee, I asked him, “Grandpa, what is it that makes you smile when you look at Grandma…and sometimes when you look at me?”
And there it was…Grandpa’s smile…as he hugged me tenderly…”Because,” he said, “when I look at Grandma and when I look at you…I’m smiling at all the other things I see.”
“When I look at your grandma I see the day I fell in love…or our first kiss…and I think… how lucky can I be that she said yes when I asked her to share her life with me.”
“I see moments we have spent together…I see her compassion…I see the beauty of her heart……I see the gentleness of her soul…to me she’s a work of art.”
“You see every time my eyes fall on your grandma they linger there a while…and, as a treasure trove of memories open before my eyes…I cannot help but smile.”
“And when I see you…I see the first time I held you in my arms…how I thought I’ll never let you fall…and I remember wondering how I could be filled with so much love…for someone so very small.”
“When I look at you…or your grandma…I see more than you and Grandma…I see memories…I see moments…and I rejoice…You ask me why I smile every time I see you…it’s simple…I really have no choice.”
I hope they’ll come a day when my grandchildren ask me the same question I asked my Grandpa…I imagine I’ll close my eyes and rejoice in his memories for a while…and when I open them I’ll happily tell them the reason…so many Grandpas smile.
Stones hide under rocks for cover
Left to their own devices they will never move
And don't have plans this afternoon
There is something about boulders too
Breaking loose from mountain tops
Roaring down with tumbling sounds
Stones have no choice but to follow in their actions
Join in the boulders calamity of gravity
Down with trouble and nothing better to do
One slip is all it takes to start an avalanche
When they crush the home set on the cliff
Make splintered sounds, cracking wood
It is too much collective heavy force
People inside become crumpled with the structure
Massive weight makes changes
Occupants of the house don't care for boulders
And stones don't think of murder
They hide under boulders normally
Occasionally rocks become emotional
Boulders roll over with indifference
When stones go down the mountain
The life of a fraud officer
For eight years
I worked as a fraud officer
Combating visa and passport fraud
Back when I worked
As a US diplomat.
In Mumbai
There was so much fraud
But we often had no choice
But to hold our noise
And issue visas.
In Spain not as much
But still quite a bit.
I learned the hard way
So many people
Are con men and women.
Lying, cheating
To get what they want.
One learned to not take it personally
Just part of the job
Working in a broken down visa system.
Where if the client has a good lawyer
And the paperwork looked legit
They would prevail.
And so the constant games
The lies and deceit continued
To this day.
I became so cynical
About people
But detecting fraud
Was like playing detective.
Once in a while
We were able to deny
A visa.
When the fraudulent activity
Was too blatant to ignore.
If you could be an animal,
Which one would it be?
Which one shares your personality?
Would you be mammal, or amphibian,
Perhaps a reptile, or a fowl,
The strength and memory of an elephant,
Or the wisdom of an owl?
Or maybe one that science says is probably
A branch upon our family tree?
It's anthropologists' contention
That the simian's most like us,
Though that theory's raised an awful lot of dust.
They cite the chimpanzee, especially,
As being anything but dumb,
He has a brain as big as ours
And an opposable thumb.
Of course, if being a monkey's cousin makes you cuss,
Blame Charlie Darwin for the fuss.
Or maybe you'd select a species
That's endangered or extinct,
Each few years the list is adding one or two.
But we'll keep chopping down their habitats
To put up shopping malls,
Apartment homes, and parking lots,
'til one day it befalls
The ones who're left
Will dwindle down to just a few,
And they'll be living in a zoo.
Evolution proves we're better off
As the species that we are,
There's no need to alter chromosomes or genes.
But as the human population here
Continues to explode,
And unless somebody figures
How the excess to unload,
Then it won't matter who we know
Or what our means,
We'll have no choice but be sardines.
There are times the wind will blow a door right in your face.
Sometimes, a door is slammed by members of the human race
There are doors designed to keep some people in and others out.
Sam did not pay his rent; so he was evicted and the door was locked.
Mr. Riley rented the same apartment and was given the door keys.
Some doors have locks on their knobs and also deadbolt locks.
I use to tell my kids, "Until we get to heaven, always lock the doors".
Thieves and robbers will never enter through the doors of heaven.
I once held keys to unlock the doors of banks and other secured places.
I would make deliveries of overnight mail and quickly exit the door.
One morning a bank employee forgot his keys and asked me to let him in.
Without hesitation, I told him "No, it's against policy", and drove away.
If the door bell is in disrepair, there's no choice except to knock, knock, knock.
Sam bought a house, but didn't realize his new home came with sliding doors.
He overlooked 'the door details' in the blueprints of his new home.
So each time he went to check in on the progress of his house,
everything was fine except the doors he assumed were temporary.
He was not use to going through such doors in a private residence.
Sam learned at least one more thing about doors he had not considered.
He was aware of 'door prizes', but learned the hard way about 'door surprises'.

Small train of pack horses walking slow,
five of them, to be precise,
on the shore of this rock-choked river,
opposite where I make my way.
Led by three men wearing buckskin,
one is Injun, must be their guide,
must’ve married into the tribe
or they wouldn’t be so friendly.
Their hoses full of plews, like mine,
a year’s work of trapping beaver
in icy pools by granite peaks,
all fringed by ramrod-straight spruces.
I ride one horse and lead two more,
fetlocks splash in the shallow water,
had to divert through the river
to avoid a stretch of rocky bluff.
Didn’t want too, I had no choice,
now three of them can see me plain,
see my year’s worth of beaver pelts,
out here where man makes his own law…
Maybe they’re the honorable sort,
but coin does strange things to a man.
grasp tight my big Hawken rifle
as one of them calls out to me…
Kermit is a canary,
He's such a pretty boy
And when he starts to sing,
He sings with so much joy.
Kermit is a canary,
The prettiest I've ever seen
And with his strange coloured plumage
It ain't easy being green.
The other canaries stare at him
Because he is unique.
They think because he's green
He's some kind of a freak.
But Kermit is a pretty bird
Who has a pretty voice
And as for his green colour
He really had no choice.
The yellow and the orange coloured birds,
They think they are the best
But little "Kermit the Green"
Just doesn't look like the rest.
But he can sing a pretty song,
The sweetest ever heard.
It just ain't easy being green
Especially if you're a bird.
I don't think you know
How much I love you
Despite am not perfect
Am who I am
I thought you knew from the beginning
That I can't fellow the trends
I can't be a sheep
I can't just go with the crowd
I am not how you want me to be now
I can't give all my time to you
I have a universal calling
And this destiny I know I don't chose it
But I cant run away from myself
I thought you knew from the beginning
Why you acting like am a stranger now
I hope you could feel how much I love you cos
I don't think you know
All I need is your heart
All I ask is your love
All I want you to be
Is just to be happy with me
I don't think you know
Am out there working
I got no choice to escape capitalism
The rain rains down water not money
And manner don't fall from the sky no more
So why do you fight me for spending
My time to work
I thought you should understand
I thought you saw the bills
It not easy out there
Yet am doing my best
If I give you all the time you need
Baby for real I will be poor
And am sure you will not love me
In that state of mind
Sometimes love is not enough
For survival expecially in this era
I don't think you know
All I need is your heart
All I ask is your love
All I want you to be
Is just to be happy with me
You have a right to speak your mind freely,
and express what’s important to you,
you have a duty to make your words sincere,
and do what you must to speak the truth.
Also to protect those who would speak out,
even if with them you do not agree,
because if you try to silence them
then you’re a hand-maiden of tyranny.
You have a right to worship what you will,
to believe the dictates of your conscience,
and not to let this be taken by folks
who claim that your morals only offend.
To never spread what you are thinking
by resorting to harsh methods of force,
and to resist those who would do it to you,
live-and-let-live, as a matter of course.
You have a right to assemble, protest,
to demand redress for the powerful,
to remember no right is optional,
but those in government do wish to full,
and that your protest must respect others,
since they also have a claim to this right,
and should the oppression continue on,
you may have a duty to go and fight.
You have a right to keep and bear weapons,
to defend your life with great lethality,
you have a duty to own a weapon,
to understand it’s use in entirety,
to never us it unless there is no choice,
since a weapon only has one purpose,
to know when to use it, and if that time comes
to understand what happens when you miss.
You have a right to possess property,
to control all the fruits of your labor,
and a duty to respect the hard work
shown by the property of your neighbor.
To not let the success others have earned
drive you to a covetous jealousy,
to understand that all civilization
is based on people using their property...
