Three snow days in a row have changed my mind
about retirement for me. I can never do it now.
I am not ready and I frankly doubt I ever will be.
I have written 83 poems, 6 stories too, danced
with husband until I was dizzy. Baked six pies,
and twenty-eight chocolate cakes,
tried to keep a better than a little
bit busy.
I have painted the bathrooms,
purple and pink called ‘all of that.’
Vacuumed the dog, and
neutered a very angry cat.
I have eaten junk food
sandwiches full of
this and that, mostly crap
that kept me in a
major bad mood.
Three snow days is all it took
to convince me loud and clear
there will be no retirement
for me. At least not anywhere to close
to this year.
A Story from My Heart
Kelly was a Red Tabby and a contemplative soul!Elena, my daughter used to put him in her doll buggy and walk him around the house. How he loved those rides!
History. I found Kelly near Chinatown in San Francisco, on a busy street in a teeny garden bed. Noisy cable cars, passing by!
I picked him up and went to apartments, nearby. Nobody was the owner! So I hailed a cab and took him home.
Back then, nobody fretted over cat diseases or wondered, if a cat was neutered
I just brought him home to my Calico, Luvey!
My cats had to be calicos or red tabbies only. My present feine is Irene, also a Calico. Our feral outdoors cat is a Calico.
Luvey accepted Kelly instantaneously, like a part of the family.
They were like sister and brother. We took him to the vet, had him fixed. He died from Kidney disease, he had to be put down.I laid on the floor in the vet lobby and had a tantrum, like a kid! I was so attached to that guy. He was in
misery the last few weeks of his loving life.
The Calico, Luvey, outlived him. Sle got to age 25! That one fell out of a three story window..I found her in the morning. She was limping, that’s all. I
told my fiancé, I wanted her checked out. So, took her in,
The vet showed me..ugh...she cracked her palate, which required surgery, and after that, they could not wake her! I said, “I will come down and wake her!!l”
She was lying, almost dead in the bottom of the cage.
I opened the door and said my magic words ” Mommy is here!” She woke up
She lived to be twenty-five years old! Luvey had a heart attack while being examined for a bad cold. I sat in a room, and talked to that dead cat and sang to her for 45 minutes. Those were precious moments.
May she Rest In Peace! Luvey was a tiny cat. And my first. A boyfriend brought her to me. I said, “I don’t want a cat!!.
Hal said, “give her a try for one night!!
That transformed into 25 awesome years...
Addenda~ A Shining Memory
One Christmas, I walled Kelly down the long hall in our
apartment building...His leash was thick, forest green tinsel!
A most loving companion, beloved by all my neignors.
I still miss him, though decades have flown away!

Today I heard,
despite considerable dissonance,
a distinction between external change
and internal transformation.
This feels like a difference with some merit,
but reminds me of further nuances
and possibilities for healthy
and pathological transitions,
great and small.
Transformation
seems like a good thing.
A negative internal change
evokes words like
deterioration,
fragmentation,
While "change"
works for me
as positive or negative,
more neutral without context,
direction determined by environmental co-arisings,
or yet to become determined,
evaluated,
And what about the cause-effect
and/or co-arising relationship,
or lack of relationship,
between exterior changing climates
and interior transforming/fragmenting cultures
or climates,
character
and character assassinations?
I remember Gregory Bateson's fascination
with "acclimation"
which he concluded is, in some ways,
co-acclimation--
more often creolizing
than colonizing.
Which brings me back
to noticing that "climate change"
feels like climate fragmentation
and my growing pre-traumatic stress
does not feel at all like a healthy transformation;
more like debilitation
Further evoking discernment
about how our cultural subclimates of disability,
fracture,
disruption of ego/eco-centric balance,
contribute to toxicity
of exterior climate change.
Perhaps "transition" is a better interior consort
for the exterior neutered face of "change";
and here we all are,
together and yet too far apart
in this unprecedented time
of Re/De-Generative Change
and billions of individual small
yet Great Transitions.
Two retired senior citizens
Home a dumping ground with three cats
Two Chihuahuas, one bull dog fat
Question~~who eats pets or denizens?
Our home has become a dumping place for
unwanted pets: first we got Princess who
someone put out behind our son's home in
the city then Hairy showed up at our home
then at least two stray cats showed up(there
may be more than two out there) now about
a week ago this huge bull dog showed up..
He must weigh at least one hundred lbs..
I have looked at pictures on the internet
and Bull looks like what they say is an
Alapaha Blue Blood Bull Dog..He is blue
and white with ears and tail not clipped..
He has not been neutered and seemed
well fed..He was hopping ..We will take
him to the vet next Tuesday..We have just
got him where he will come to us..Tommy
put food out for him but he would not come
close for about a week..
(This is a true story)
When I had my cat neutered, he didn't seem to want to wake.
He appeared to be lifeless and my heart was about to break.
When he sent him home, the veterinarian said he should've already came
around.
It scared the hell out of me because I thought I was going to have to bury him in
the ground.
He wasn't moving and he looked like he wasn't even breathing.
Four hours later he finally woke up and it was very relieving.
This was very scary and I wish that nobody else will have to go through it.
You don't know just how special a pet is until you think you're going to lose it.
I'm very thankful that Sylvester's life didn't end.
He's more than a pet, he's my friend.

My Halloween Kitty (written 10/11/2020) free verse
I had a familiar named Callie
She was born on Halloween.
Feral siblings abandoned at my door.
I took the whole litter to the SPCA.
They neutered and spayed them all for me.
The ears were notched so they’d go free
if the pound police appeared.
I brought the clowder home and cared for them
until their stitches had permanently healed,
then allowed them outside to roam on their own.
They all left for adventures beyond –
with the exception of Callie.
Callie was brindled in black and orange
with a white-star chest and white-tipped tail;
short hair she maintained fastidiously.
She continually spoke to me in cat language
and we managed a conversation of sorts.
She bid me good day as I left in the mornings
and listened to my tales when I returned.
She monitored my feelings as if a therapist
and counseled me on the course I must take
when I was feeling at my lowest.
I called her my Halloween kitty
and she expressed that was okay.
We counted years by her birthdays,
celebrating Halloween every year.
She disregarded the trick-or-treaters.
My sounding board and steadfast friend;
I miss her terribly now that she’s gone.
She remained with me 17 years, two years passed,
through sad, glad, distress, and happiness.
She was my mainstay on my darkest days.
I had a familiar named Callie
She was born on Halloween.
Of all fond thoughts held deep within the heart
Like strings lightly strummed fly with agile wings
Take flight yet never from my mind depart
Soar as wandering clouds where angels sing
Thrilling depths unknown and conscious thriving
Meant for few who’ve neutered malice thinking
Free of hate and void of carnal striving
Loosed from the pull of gravity’s sinking
Launched to heights reserved near omnipotence
God is there, since love is His personage
Displayed, arrayed in great magnificence
Building a home of divine parsonage
Forever to reign in heaven’s glory
Love is the wind and might of the story
