Dreams

Writing the words
I welcome the day
Writing the words
with new things to say
Writing the words
my heart like a sponge
Writing the words
all silence expunged

Every new sound
alive in the air
Every new phrase
unspoken to share
Every last vowel
irreverent of time
Every last breath
gives voice to the mime

Pen in my hand
the journey begins
Pen in my hand
through virtue and sin
Pen in my hand
the Muses surround
Pen in my hand
their voices expound

Dreams of my father
dreams of my son
Dreams hold me captive
dreams rebegun
Dreams in the mirror
dreams that relay
Dreams bringing freedom
dreams — dare I pray

Narrative Musings

Poetry
can’t scare me
But then
there’s the prose

Freewheeling
unstructured
I’m lost
in its throes

The words
in my capture
As verse
I sustain

But narrative
musings
I fight
— to proclaim

***

 In The Instant

Always the next
poem
always the next
verse

That already
written
retreats
to disperse

What comes
as a presence
stays fresh
to surmise

And freed
in this instant
each word
— more alive

My imagination never takes me farther
Than the confines of my own space
Where colors in hues of azure and scarlet
Wrap around the promises of truth
That inspire me to listen to the hopes
Within my breath, where I can feel
Silence screaming in lasting lavender lights
Surrounding me with the galaxy of gifts
Guiding me through the universe’s realms
The ideas, dancing through my mind
In sweetest flow of enlightenment and kindness
An air of happiness sends astronomical
Visions to soothe me and protect me from
The harrowing experience of global warming
Where my thoughts fade into the ebony
Of a cosmos so prevailing I long to touch
Only one stroke of the grace I can pierce
With rays from a sunshine that lights up
The moments with hope and faith and love
Lasting through this life that colors us all
With crimson flow from the One who gave
Up the ghost so we might know truth
In the One who fills us up spiritually
Indwelling us with an intimate whisper of wispy
Mystery, ideas that thrive in the space
Of weightless, agile delight that frees us all
From the crimes of being alive, humanoid
Never knowing the path to the moon and stars
The planets that welcome our brilliance
With immediate and powerful willingness
To give back to our hearts, through this intensity
A drifting web, dancing with joy, insight
Into the truth of a space that leaves us all
Filled with the miracle of a truth, inspiring
Feathery wisps of knowing faith will remind
All of us, this space we take up in life
Will someday bring us the passionate promise
Of a rapture where God will answer questions
With a vibrant and lively affection that lives
To pierce our hearts with compassion that is
Like a brilliant light caressing the planets
With grace, praise and worship for the One
Who created us, them and everything that is
We are blessed to share this space under heaven
With hope for the welcoming presence
Of our heavenly caress, the gesture that tells us
God is the answer to all our life’s questions
He will someday fill us with truth and pleasure
That comes from knowing His touch, His presence
The light that comes from His holy blessings!

The ancient nothingness in undefined infinite cosmos
nucleated into the elements of the universe so unique.
Matter made from the silence of the deep space
incorporated in the core the touch of the celestial essence.
The latent emptiness suffusing the spirit of all entities
embodies the slice of the creator’s ubiquitous space.

In all things that exists as tiny spaces in boundless space,
the fraction of the primordial cosmic emptiness persists
in the fathomless indeterminate depth of the eternal soul,
encompassing the seamless space of derived divinity,
where we need to plunge with devout inner perception,
realize how in the emptiness of the primal space
life can fly in the void vast firmament of primeval bliss.

River Musings

Canopy of blue above me,
Cirrus clouds, like mist on high;
Ripples dapple down the river,
Tiny whitecaps drift on by.

Distant cars flash ‘cross the bridges,
Airplanes glide as smooth as glass;
Joggers bounce on brand-new sneakers,
Seagulls swoop with grace and sass.

Tranquil breezes ruffle weedlings
Sprouting in the sidewalk cracks;
Children pedal bikes in training,
Anxious parents at their backs.

Flag across the water flutters,
Pigeons perch upon the rail;
River traffic’s non-existent –
Not a motor, tug or sail.

Easter Sunday in Manhattan
Is as peaceful as they come.
Gone is all the noise and hubbub;
Missing is the normal thrum.

Sitting quiet in the sunshine,
Soaking up the springtime air,
I’m content to pass the hour
In a mood relaxed and rare.

Premium Member If Only I Could

I would harken back to passions of realm sublime
As melodies of beloved past endearingly chime
Appealing to yesteryears when love was in prime;
If only I could endeavor to journey back in time.

Strolling with you in springs of blooming meadows
We will greet paradise, euphoric thoughts renew,
Indulgent in amorous music heartbeats compose;
If only I could decode secrets, musings of souls coo.

There would be no laments, no recollections irate,
Nary a hint of grief, clenching strife would berate,
For heavenly bliss in your domain will forever elate;
If only I could manage to alter the course of fate.

I will restage how dear-Venus inflamed our mood
As astral orchestra strummed twinkling stellar tune
While courting your fervor waltzing stars wooed;
If only I could succeed to entice the doting moon.

I remember your smile, lauding blushing twilight,
Enamored in lyrics of hearts, fervent verses recite,
O, those moonlit desires would rekindle tonight;
If only I could seduce, reveries of romantic night.

Premium Member Hold the Dreams That In You Reside

Reject not sweet musings memories evoke
Extolling elation our passions amplified
Assuage the fervid hints emotions stoke
That eternal vows once callously denied

Let bygones fade away on skyline bright
When your smile scintillates opaline skies
Being my delight of Venus every night
Blazing flame of desires glinting your eyes

“Share the hopes within you still
And hold the dreams that in you reside
Invite a kiss from parted lips
And trace the paths where hearts abide”

Awaken your impulses reveries fantasize
As nightmare of yore in womb of dawn dies
And ambiance of day, aspirations surmise
Where sparkles of amethyst glisten sunrise

Savor again missives your feelings confide
As pleadings of hearts doting souls revive
Let whispers of yearnings be your guide
While blossoms of romance fervently thrive

Entrust me your voice, music of my choice,
Strumming evermore rhythms of your song
In concert of my beats, it is you I rejoice
Pulsing my heart where forever you belong

Mandolin melodies harmonised horizons,
yet the only strings being strummed
were those of my heart.

In the midst of enchanting melodies,
where nothing else mattered, but her,
we wandered barefoot, hand in hand,
as the tenderness of our steps decorated the sand.

In the simplicity of pure beauty, lost in a moment of perfection.
We lay admiring the heavens, watching daylight drift away.
The jealous golden orb silently sank, as colourful skies summoned
illuminated expressions to light up a black and white world.

In darkness we lay and gazed
lost in the silent serenity of the stars,
until the tranquillity of her sequin eyes
hypnotised my soul and I danced devoted
to the magnificence of her delicate elegance.

The whisper of sweet sentiments
revealed our secret serenade.
In the distance an orchestra of humming birds
hummed the chorus of our passionate song.

Her arms like celestial wings, embraced me close.
Her surreal kiss guided my lips home.
As waves washed away our footsteps,
the moon closed its eyes, as millions of shy stars
hid behind a blanket of nocturnal clouds.

To write a sonnet discipline's required
   Avoiding herky-jerky beat's so hard
While classic rhyme can be sublime
For romantic verse, it sets off chimes --
Structured verses tend to ebb and flow
Be they sonnets, ballads, couplets or rondeaus...

Explore your inner world in free verse
Plumb the depths of darkness and despair
Or soar on eagle's wings through the air
   Propelled by unchained imagination
And creativity: Where you end up
   Limited solely by your resistivity

Covid-19 Musings

Today a white dove flew across a dimming sun.
As it gently descends below the horizon
I gazed down below from my Apartment.
And I see people up and about their businesses.
Only a few months earlier,
The space below my apartment was empty, no voices, no cheers.
An ultra-thin piece of non-living matter
Shut the world down, without weapons-
No guns, no bombs not even arrows
Yet the world stood still.
A reality that was neither phony nor funny!
And suddenly, gone were the days when we could sit across each other at work.
Or share a cold beer at the pub, or travel at will.
Our lives became regimented, we sit in front of computers all day.
And connect across continents at the click of a button.
We suddenly learnt to adapt to a new world order-
Virtual, eerie yet calm but somewhat discomforting
Masterminded and dictated to us by an ultra-thin piece of non-living matter!
It is now over 365 days since the virus tried to shut us down.
Many lives have been loss, families mourning.
National economies have suffered with damming consequences for the citizenry.
Yet the world remained resilient, like the great rock of Gibraltar.
We may have buckled but we stood tall, united and strong.
From the United Kingdom to Nigeria
Across the Americas, down to the Zulu Kingdom of Southern Africa
We stayed strong and stable.
And fought for our freedom!
And I can see that freedom is close.
Even though the ultra-thin piece of non-living matter continues to-
Raise its ugly head across different regions on our planet.
But resilient we are, and we will continue to be!
So, today, as I gazed down below from my Apartment.
And I saw people up and about their businesses.
I knew for sure- we would all smile together again.
From a place of love, peace, contentment and most of all victory
Against an invisible enemy that threatened our entire existence
Hopefully, we would have learned the lessons and be battle ready for future invasions!!!
