‘Show me God’, said the atheist
‘Here, in the now’, he did insist
‘Else admit, randomness of fate’
Taking the gauntlet, here’s the gist
Desires entice, we take the bait
It’s a rat race, so who’ll wait
Bemused, we ask not, who we are
Far cry it seems, is heaven’s gate
Looking back at life, lived so far
With fears and desires, we did spar
Joy and suffering, both fleeting
Permanent joy, too high a bar
We see form debilitating
Life fleeting and time’s a wasting
So resting thought, enter silence
Exhausted of thus oscillating
Arousing inner sentience
Rekindling innate innocence
We’re charged with bliss throbs in fullness
Revealing soul’s luminescence
One with oneness, in blissfulness
In continuum of stillness
Ego shorn, we become twice born
Transmuted is our awareness
Hark in our heart, the soundless horn
God in-dwells form that we adorn
God alone is, love His essence
Truth’s tong, plucks out ignorance thorn

Twenty-five years
since we agreed to this and still,
I vow to be there,
just outside your line of sight,
as you confidently mispronounce quinoa,
as you decide, again, that the best way
to check if the pan is hot
is to touch it.
I vow to say nothing
as you eyeball the rice-to-water ratio,
as you insist the foundation holds weight,
as you press snooze believing
time is different for you.
I vow to remain clogged-drain quiet
as you tell the plumber,
No, I got it.
As you grab the Tupperware
stamped Do Not Microwave.
I vow to never stop you,
never correct you,
never intervene—
just smile softly,
like god’s understudy
only to exist,
always,
just beyond your reach,
a presence, a history, a silent witness
to your worst ideas,
like a Liberty half-dollar trapped in a garbage disposal,
like a key locking the door from the outside.
Desires fulfilled under amethyst skies
Soothing the sounds of our tempted hearts beating
Satin your skin glistens bright in the sun
Sweetwater lips made for endlessly kissing
Eyes now insist that our day is not done
Silhouettes form on a promise laced sunset
Apricot heavens in marmalade blush
Soft pastels sigh of our breathless intentions
Harmonies sung in a smooth whispered hush
Gently we lie beneath star sprinkled driftings
Passions explored as a new moon does rise
Pearl drop shimmers of love’s invitation
Desires fulfilled under amethyst skies
Warm midnight dreams rain of simplistic notions
Evening expands the horizons so far
Listen as winds whisper feathered emotions
Love will be waiting wherever we are
Good night Soupers
Sort of like
stubbing one's toe,
if you dare to love
a bruise can form~
a deep rosy shadow
in response to your
amorous sunning –
love burns
both inside
and out
take lots of lotion
if you have such notion
exposing the heart to elements
like, who can really predict the
weather, an educated guess
at best?
so, who can predict
whether with love one is
or not to be blessed?
Though God, the starter
and stopper of human
hearts – when it comes to
romance, in the theater of
love~ pray, as you may
but Love seems to insist
on writing and performing
only its own chosen parts....
“Guilty, Sir, if you insist that I am--
Yes, ‘twas I who cut her with a knife and
Took her heart out, so very gently while
It was beating--still beating in my palms.
From the cavity where her heart had lain
I placed it in an ornate box with care,
A vessel lined with the finest satin,
Encrusted around with glittering gems
That shone and sparkled like her living eyes,
Which had enthralled me when she was alive.
“What? Remorse, Sir? No, absolutely not!
With what I did, I am most satisfied.
Know, Sir, that she had promised me her heart
When we were young and very much in love--
This love we nurtured, as seasons went by
And yearly sealed in sincere assurance,
Till she slowly became cold and distant,
Not speaking a word, till through circumstance,
She confessed that someone else had her heart,
So I--I took what was pledged to be mine.
“Where, Sir? It’s in a space under my bed,
Where nightly I take it out of its place
And lay it on my pillow near my head
That I may caress it and dream of days
When lovers stood fast on what they had pledged.
Please, Sir, if you’d retrieve the box for me,
This dank dark cell would be a paradise,
For her heart would bear me such company
That even the loss of freedom would suffice
To make me feel I am a man most free.”

I wake, to frosty air upon my face
As I lay, in down encased
I gaze upon the nylon’s glow
This morning light that signals snow
Reflected by the outside cover
Which still falls, I soon discover
I hear it drop upon my tent
The softest touch, as fingertips
It slips and falls and piles high
From my shelter to my delight
I yearn to move and start my day
But cold crisp air bodes well to wait
Strange, you may think to sleep like this
Strange, you don’t, I must insist
To see such beauty, with its virgin hue
And I, like the first man, this forest knew
To leave a trail and step alone
And blaze a path and travel home
Even now with covers tight
I wouldn’t trade for warm sunlight
With spring comes the awful crowd
Who have never heard the winter’s howl
And never seen the stars so bright
Or the moonlit snow on a winter’s night
They will never know the forest’s grace
That comes from waking, with frosty air upon your face
Evening time, behind closed doors
Like before the play’s beginning
Just because of the because
A telephone keeps ringing
Sending beeps without a cause
And it always comes abrupt
Just because of the because
I’m too lazy to interrupt
Likely its again some sod
Who’ll insist me to comply
So he rings to try his fraud
Hoping I’m that kind of guy
Who will listen to his tales
Who’ll be flattered with propose
Give him the account details
Just because of the because
Must be quite a tiring work
All that rubbish to impose
Fraudster needs his grateful dork
There are plenty and he knows
A buttefly hits the window pane
Seeks an exit to outside
Where’s an exit from the pain
I would like for me to find
As the evening comes to end
Then my book I have to close
See that butterfly descends
On the senseless wind that blows..
We have too little time not to use it wisely
I was enjoying lunch
a sandwich with some potato chip crunch
when it hit me like a rush
- I’m in a cult!
The girls at my table
Emma, Léah and Chloé,
my solid, study group three
all dress alike, more or less
we're all doing the same things
we study, laugh too loudly at nothing,
we romanticize burnout as a sort of chic
we compare our grades like horoscopes,
and we're all somewhere on the caffeine curve
To join our little group
you must know what an osmole is
and you must be slightly behind
but never admit how far
Like all cults there are rules,
we must pretend it’s all manageable,
and insist, to everyone, that “I’m fine.”
Emma says she dreams of Anki now.
Léah hasn’t texted her mother back in three weeks.
Chloé swears she’ll quit after this year,
which we all accept as part of the liturgy
because she's not even trying to leave.
As we eat, we scroll, and diagnose each other casually,
triaging the stages and conditions of early 20s life
“Did that guy ever call?”
It's hard to find a guy who understands
why you'd cancel plans to memorize something
We say, “it’s probably nothing”
with the authority of girls who know it's probably everything.
Anyway, my sandwich is gone, the chips too
someone mentions exams
(We’ve 13 days until first year final exams)
and we all stand up at once,
like we’ve heard a bell.

Have you no clue how hard i try
To keep positive alive and negative aside
Why must you insist, genocide
Why must you feel the need to lie
I don't remember the reasons why
I cater to your deceptive lifes
What makes you think I'd oblige
Why must you live this way of life
Have you no clue how hard I try
To not do the things I so despise
To keep a hard face and try not to cry
If I do so, shall it be my demise
And should it be, I give you my word
Destiny will be mine fulfilled in time
I'll show the world that's being disguised
Time to reveal this knowledge I hide
As everyone starts to wonder why
But it's little too late to rectify
Nothing you say can justify
Living such a demonic life
My deepest fears are coming true
Total darkness is bleeding through
Raging inferno that's within my soul
No longer desires to maintain control
Exposing this darkness for all to see
"Reveal your demons!" You beg of me
