Gently, they swirled about in Winter's frigid wind
No two were identical, none were ever twinned
Each ice crystal, a pristine beauty transcending
Tumbling from clouded gray skies, softly descending
* * *
* * *
I frolicked among them, as amused as a child
Infused with wonderment and totally beguiled
Tree limbs brocaded, deeply embellished with snow
So beautifully they glistened with lucent glow
* * *
* *
How quickly it gathered on rooftops and hedges
Wafting, free-spirited, collecting on ledges
Down, they continued twirling in a tranquil scene
Etched in memory as idyllic and serene
* * *
*
I was enamored and enthralled as it drifted
Toward heaven, my eyes were gratefully lifted
As each flake so elegantly fell to the ground
Creating a dreamscape without making a sound
* *
*
Like dainty birds, they fluttered in such a hurry
a flock of crystal snowflakes, in Winter's flurry
My world was blanketed by a quilt of pure white
Tonight it would sparkle brilliantly in starlight!

I lay myself out
on the window sill
basking in the sun's golden glow
I am still
and dip my hand
in the sun's yellow rays
hoping to catch a piece of warmth.
Yet the window is ice
and my heart is cold
my fingers are blue
and wrinkled and old.
My numb digits tingle,
with the urge to break free
and feel more than just a chill.
I press my palms up against the glass
and recall a memory
that occurred long in past
of a man and woman sitting beside
a pink cherry tree
with all their time to bide.
A lover's pair meet
in gentle passion
it seems
but upon closer look one sees tears
on her cheeks
and could swear that the flowers on
the cherry tree die
and the air has turned to cold.
Holding on tight she grasps
his hand
yet he pulls and slips
through her fingers like sand:
the tiny grains one can never
contain
he leaves her all alone.
The woman is torn
that is plain to see
she stands frozen still
under that pink cherry tree
with her heart in her hands
she feels it start to crack
and as it breaks she turns
her back.
Then the flowers are gone,
the wind starts to blow
and as the snow falls
her tears freely flow
like a brook down her face
until they, like her heart,
finally, solidly, freeze and stop.
I remember that day
every last single second
can't ever forget
for my memory beckons.
It calls my name and
my broken heart
and were not for ice
I would fall apart.
Perhaps it would be
better to heat
the heart that is frozen
it might offer release.
Yet I remain a hard sculpture
of ice crystal clear
and my heart remains terribly broken
I fear.
Ice crystal contrails cerulean skies crisscross,
Grazing the wispy clouds of cottony linens
Like smooth white, waxy strings of dental floss
Strung out high above these heavenly denizens.
Grazing the wispy clouds of cottony linens
Are they playing war games above the peace?
Strung out high above these heavenly denizens
Are they from earthly tensions finding release?
Are they playing war games above the peace?
These high-flying aerial jockeys of daring feat
Are they from earthly tensions finding release?
They soar through the heavens without defeat.
These high-flying aerial jockeys of daring feat
Top guns rehearsing for battles they must abhor,
They soar through the heavens without defeat
Ever testing, faster, never enough, always more.
Top guns rehearsing for battles they must abhor
Keenly aware of the vital defense roles they play
Ever testing, faster, never enough, always more
Their high-flying antics are de rigueur for the day.
Keenly aware of the vital defense roles they play
Like smooth white, waxy strings of dental floss
Their high-flying antics are de rigueur for the day,
Ice crystal contrails cerulean skies crisscross.

"It happens just because we need to want, and to be wanted too, when love is here or gone to lie down in the darkness and... listen to the warm.” -Rod McKuen
Look deep into my Springtime
and listen to the warm
Leave all traces of winter behind
Listen closely...and you'll hear
the drip drops fall from that ice crystal fortress
that surrounds your heart. I understand why it's there
But now that it's melting away, it's easier to be able to
Listen to the warm...
The drips from your heart's fortress have formed a babbling brook
With bated breath you board the boat with me
Soon the topaz water's gurgling sound is in sync with your breathing
And you relax
Our destination?
A cozy little cottage, in the middle of no where, but home to us
Beneath our feet the lush green grass is speckled with wild flowers
You pick a magenta one, and place it in my hair
Like a couple of kids on a play date, we clasp hands
and scurry across the field, our laughter echoing along with our steps
We see that the door is ajar, a fluffy turquoise rug beckons us
Snuggling upon it, I find the rug is even softer than it looks, as is your skin
Soon the thunderous din of your heartbeat is in sync with mine
Quite a rhythm section amid hushed whispers and the babbling brook outside our window
It becomes our lullaby, as we dream within this dream, we continue to
Listen to the warm...
Allowing the warmth to embrace us, our hearts say, that everything will be okay...

Snowfall in July
David J Walker
What if today
Is just the extension of
Another summers day to
Remember a Decembers snowfall
The subtle absurdity of snow
Shaking like the glitter
Of a snow globe on
A sunny summer Sunday
That could be any day in July
July is hot and dry
Except in the perverse figment of
A writers imagination of
A snowstorm in summer
I am anxious
to see if winter is really
willing to return tomorrow
With wind and snow
On a darkened
August afternoon
That ironically freezes
and sunburns my fingers and cheeks
I am keen on examining
Ice crystal formations
On cracked window pains
In refracted light that
I am sure I have
Examined before
How would they
How could they
Know that
No two snowflakes
Are alike but lacking in
The imagination of a summer
Snowstorm waiting for
Another winter to return and
Continue Snowflake research
What if the gathering
summer storms have been
forming forever on the far
Horizon in a warmer climate
With monogrammed thunder and
Autographed lightening designed
Long before we were born
There is only sad romance in
A freezing rain no matter
When or where it falls
What if it never snows again
"Idling"
Cool cold froth
slides across their pages
they whirl their congratulatory comments
like pucks across ice crystal cut sharp and precise
waiting for return compliments
basting their words with oily accomplishment
slick and to strict recipe
baking like fat turkeys
with temperatures
mild and appetites easily
assuaged
How does a person come to this?
They think of words and throw them
to the wolves like sticks
for return
Wolves will take their words
strip all bones ragged of stories
bury them
and then silently,
without a backward glance
never return
(LadyLabyrinth/2019)
“Their pooled emotions wouldn’t fill a teaspoon.”
“They sicken of the calm who know the storm.”
“That would be a good thing for them to cut on my tombstone:
Wherever she went, including here, it was against her better judgment.”

lets be friends ,you and me
together we can try to be free
ill tell you one and many lies
till you believe in my disquise
ill be your friend and own your mind
till all you do is try to find
search for me ,yes you will
i can give you the ultimate thrill
the tricks i play in this game
will render you never the same
ill steal your soul,to never return
take you to hell and watch you burn
i will command your thoughts and drive you insane
watching you as i steal your brain
you came to me for some cheap high
now your mother starts to cry.
your friends are gone, some are dead
your family is broken,is enough said?
you will try to escape me
but i will never let you be free
others have tried to run from me
but they cant escape my tyranny
we are now friends, you and me
as we lay together cant you see
as you die ,ill be there
pretending that i give a care
you friended me ,remember that
many nicknames i go by
whatever you call me is up to you
i own you now ,own your soul
i am ice ,i am rock,
i am crystal meth
i am evil and cause death,
do not try and be my friend
stay away till your end
Sultry crowns a lunar face beam connected
fishing in the great lakes crimson shades a shadow
Rising inside echoes see through ice crystal breaking
the temple of an ocean lament treasure sings out sweet sorrow
Cries out seagulls within the silence peaking wave held moment
gasping silence breaks on the seventh crest looking breathless
Whitewashed carpet unfolding before your feet special joy breaks
a shadow kisses the soul of every step taken sweetly blessed
Jewels finding paradise salt of the seabed rises cultured churns
Upon the white surf princess your eyes sparkles unique diamond cut
Though space and time growing into a dream fairy tale magic
faraway glass slipper bride peridot signature colour on the moon
Green corn swaying to whispers upon a breeze drops beneath you
Breaths held in the wind curling around warmly sighs silently gasps
Dancing rose upon the thorns petals blush pink waves enchants
sunlight glistens as dewdrops fall adoring feelings rainbow
Sharing with you the one who holds twilight ever after
faraway united forever and always embracing your grace

•••
You came over night,
Unexpectedly with a cold rain,
A tiny droplet of pure water.
And under a harsh coldness,
The fabric sheet of Earth transformed you.
•••
In front of me, you stayed white and ice crystal, displaying delicate six-fold symmetry.
Reflected and shined your own light.
Mesmerized me with the beauty of your own uniqueness.
But only if you stayed undisturbed,
A perfect Snowflake you would be.
•••
How fragile you were under a little raise of heat,
How brittle you were under a gentle move of breeze,
Melted and disappeared...
Left me with a Surprise on how my single breath had destroyed you.
Left me with a Regret of having touched you...
•••
You went back to your own state.
A water droplet,
Resistant to change,
Refused to move to a warmer place.
Hiding in a rock of high mountain.
•••
Soon,
To become a new Flake of Snow in the next winter...
Pure white laying, reflecting, and inviting…
Waiting,
To break someone’s heart with your Alluring Uniqueness...

Fog Rides like smock from the mountain side
The world is on fire
Heated from the core and cooled by the air
Leaves dry losing their green luster
The night comes around more and stays just as long
The world is changing
Like are body's and minds electrify with lovers touch on are skin
Children will retreat into the safety of the womb
When body's of water begin to harden frozen cold from love gone wrong
River rushes to the ocean singing
'Ocen this will be my last kiss to you
till the love we lost warms it self with the thawing of time
a moment i could Waite for ever for'
she sings on
'for ever is an of ally long time"
her lover replays
The night and cold seen to last forever
even when the sun trys to peek though with warm rays
the land is coated with the thick blanket of death
old man winter brings
So were frozen in this place the flesh of are corn warm and gay
But are souls take on the greater tole of being frozen cold
It is a surprise we live so long when are veins are filled with
ice crystal blood
