I grew up with nothing but I know a lot about things in life.
I gave myself time to learn about the truth
I missed opportunities during my youth.
My knowledge swelled up like confidence
Well, it became a sort of arrogance
It built me like a warrior: An invincible one!
I never realized it was a self-destructive behavior;
It destroyed me all at once.
“But why is reality different from what I learned?”
“Does anyone’s success have a price to earn?”
I grew up with nothing but I know a lot about things in life.
I stopped giving myself time to learn about the truth
I should have not missed those opportunities during my youth.
If strong principles could make you rich,
There is no need to kiss somebody’s feet: Be a leech.
But what I read from the books is far-fetched from what exists.
I guess this is what they called a “plot twist.”
“So never be confident about the knowledge you possess.”
Too much confidence is arrogance;
It’s a self-destructive behavior that will kill your prowess.
I grew up with nothing but I know a lot about things in life.
I regret giving myself time to learn about the truth
I regret missing opportunities during my youth.
Christmas In New England
It's Christmas in New England
I can see the Northern star.
My thoughts like dreams of yesterday
I wonder how you are.
Childrens laughter fills the air,
apple cider in a cup.
Eyes like lights on Christmas trees
oh how they all light up.
Presents strewn about the floor
the pleasures that they bring.
Somewhere in the distance
I hear a church bell ring.
So many miles between us now,
I guess they always will.
Yet I know inside somehow
you stand beside me still.
Candy canes and lollipops
in stockings by the door.
Gifts all wrapped with Christmas cheer
for those that we adore.
My mind goes racing back in time
I'm wishing you were here.
Like Christmas how it used to be
when I still had you near.
And it's Christmas in New England
I can see the Northern star.
My thoughts like dreams of yesterday
I wonder how you are.
Edwin C Hofert
This poem is about the mixed feelings that we all feel at this time of year. Loving those around us and missing those that aren't.
May your Christmas this year be everything you need it to be and even more than you could hope for.
And may you sense the presence of all that you can't see with your eyes. In the presents you hold in your hands.
God bless. And have a Merry Christmas.
There are people who
live in the fast lane,
Swim upstream
Enjoy the fruit of their labor
riding on the coattails of the devil,
Chase rainbows and find the
pot of gold awaiting at the end.
I wonder…
Are you one of them?
I, for one,
I mostly followed
the beaten path,
But on whim
strayed off a time or two.
Ha yes! I also ran,
Stumbled and fell,
but finished the race, all the same.
I didn’t know
which faith to follow
but kept my trust in God.
I guess I didn’t
labor my life hard enough and
was just content to sit on the fence
burning the midnight oil
to earn a pretty penny.
Summersaulting on the clouds of time
Makes me thirsty for yesterday’s old ones
They were the best; their laps were soft.
Kindness was their middle name.
Their first name polite.
No one said, “no problem”.
They said, “You are welcome”.
“No problem” to me means “you are not really welcome”.
My mind growls and snarls every time I hear it.
Curtseys are weird, and never looked right.
I do not go in for genuflecting either.
Because I am not of that religious persuasion.
Then of course I might flex.
I am doing cartwheels now, reaching my toes toward Jupiter
Showing the gods and goddesses I am limber enough to show them up
They scoff at my antics, sneering at my enthusiasm.
I care not, for I am in my own world
Still steaming over “no problem”
which I guess is one.
I've been falling in and out of love with myself.
Saying I deserve to be happy then punishing myself with my choices.
Choosing people who will break me when I finally start to build myself up.
Getting headrush and falling down every time I stand up for myself.
I've been thinking about my life and what I want,
I've been thinking I just want things to be easier.
I've been thinking I was a fool to think things would change,
And I've been thinking that maybe it's worth the wait.
I've been treading water just wondering when I'll see the life raft,
Maybe now I've found it.
Maybe my life raft is believing I can do it.
Maybe it's the people who help me believe.
Life is confusing,
I wish I'd done this before.
I guess I'll just take it 5 minutes at a time.
I'll just try.
My happy Aunt Petootie
comes clomping over.
Your mother says you write poetry now.
Her eyebrows are angry.
Uh-huh. I admit.
She is in full glare mode now.
Why?
Because I like it?
Diabolical laugh.
Hey, Glitzy, get over here!
Guess what Miss Funny-Duddy just said?
I inch out of their circle of hilarity,
wondering why I had allowed
my mother to talk me
into staying an
extra five minutes.
Here in the deep heart
of all this Christmas
love and cheer?
Poetry huh?
It is Uncle Malc-wood.
Aunt Petootie's husband.
I know I am not supposed to like him.
He is an out-law, after all, married in.
I glance down at my hands, barely nod.
My trust window is rapidly closing.
I wish I was an alligator being eaten by a cheetah.
My windows are boarding themselves
up, I am ready to go!
A gentle touch on my roof brings
my house-eyes-self upwards.
Uncle Malc-wood says, "Good for you!"
I guess I could stay another ten minutes.
My TV shows are already recorded after all.
ONE MORE LAST WALK
If I can only have one walk with you today
Each day you always had your way when
It was time to play
You were the best buddy I could ever ask for
Now you are gone and I will never see you again
I still keep your favorite toys in the basket
With your favorite blanket
Each morning I still get up and fill your bowl
I guess it's a habit I can't control
Each day outside I see all these dogs walking
And I will always remember my dog was always exploring
I remember listening to my dog snore
It was something I always adore
Now I have an empty bed on the floor
And then I realized I won't see you anymore
Sometimes by mistake, I call out your name
Which brings back all my pain
I know you are in Heaven
And in God's possession
If I can only have one more walk with you today
This anger that is inside me now is tearing me apart,
After all this time I find you had been lying from the start.
I am hurting so much from the pain you have caused me,
By using your beauty and charm so I would not see.
All the lies and deceit while loving you and giving all my trust,
I will expose your evil ways and mean doings this is a must.
Never should another endure what you have put me through,
This I will make sure of if it's the last thing that I ever do.
How dare you break my heart and then treat me so bad ,
It takes a lot to upset me but girl you have made me mad.
You've no idea the rage that I am carrying inside me now,
I will make you regret this one day I will figure out how.
If it's the last thing I do I am going to make a example of you,
How and when I am not sure of but trust me it will be soon.
You walk away from me as if you've done nothing wrong,
Believe me girl I will show you and it wont take me long.
Seriously do you think you can get away with treating me this way?
So wrong you are for that and you will know this one day.
That deceiving the man thats so in love with you ,
Is something you are going to learn not to ever do.
Why would you ever do this to a man that loved you so,
I guess this is something that I am never going to know.
This anger inside that is slowly tearing me apart ,
Blinded by your ways I was completely in the dark.
Just one more thing I must say to you before I go ,
You are evil and that's something everybody will know.
TAC
Such a good time we had,
Then what was the need to fight,
Why did we indulge in blame game?
Was it really important to prove who was right?
I had hopes that you would let go,
But, I really didn't know,
That I had to do with this,
Yes you are missed,
The friendship I had!
I had confidence that no one can come in between us,
I had the faith in our bond,
But, waves of misunderstanding came in between,
I guess it was not that strong,
I still have a grudge against you,
You left me all sulking without any clue,
Now I don't trust any friend!
So happy we were in our space,
But, now it is the thing of disgrace,
A beautiful friendship ruined with time,
Remember the time when I called you mine,
Why did this breach of trust end?
I too don't have words to defend,
But it is all over now,
It is all over with time!

Now... maybe it's me
but love ain't what it used to be.
Now I been searching for a hot minute
like 2 years to be exact
and to the females I dissed
I should've had more rap for
I guess that's my fault.
Part of me thinks I'm on a desperate search
the other part is just tired of being hurt
so I started putting in more work.
As far as love goes I'm still searching for it
maybe in the wrong places
I ain't had a good relationship
ever since my 1st love, damn I hate this
so why keep searching?
I guess I really need it
maybe I'm tired of emotionally bleeding
and tired of females lying
saying they love me, but do I believe it?
to some extent I do.
so what do I do?
continue searching or just quit.
But... It ain't no quit in me.
And... I Hate that.
