Just outside the window
a row of coned shaped trees bend their foolish heads
for her attention...
She can have her way with them...
yet, with such a wily nature, she passes over them,
and softly treads a path through the garden gate...
Her steps are light as dew, making not a sound...
as she hesitates to wake a slumbering rose...
and timidly brushes past a trellis of sleeping morning glories...
She peeks in, then slowly slithers through his open window, while he lies sleeping....
The angle of her glance makes his closed eyes flutter...
and he smiles....
Her appearance casts shadows on the far wall, as she stares across the room at him
She tarries for a moment
A reflected image on the mirror spreads her silken white cloth...
He feels her move over him...
He is kissed by this welcome intruder, ...hypnotized by her charm, and her cool breath...
Dazzled by this embrace, he tosses the quilt, in restless dream....
She caresses so softly, filling his heart, and making him sigh...
He basks in her love, and lies in sweet gratitude in his sleepy state
enraptured with sweet contentment
Soaking up and drunk with the intoxication of her shine
Outside, a lonely eucalyptus tree is jealous...
Impatient and longing to feel such affection....
It's branches clamor against the glass, hoping to break her spell on him...
But, woefully....
angry clouds intrude to steal away the moment...
She runs and hides!
No longer does he feel the kiss,...the sweet lunar incandescence of her breath...
The seduction of her glow...
Coolness and disappointment envelop him as darkness returns again...
And he is once again alone in the shadows of the dark
He must pull his blanket up, and dream of other lovers.....

For Dr. Ram Mehta's contest..."Luna... Goddess of the Moon"
Down a runway skybound
to cross a continent,
see from a window
a city fall away
with bright beads
strung along a coast,
then turning inland,
clumped townships
shrinking to solitary lights
sunk far apart
into hours
of featureless dark.
Disconnected
from the earth,
let the mind paint
the blank distances
and wander landscapes
of Namatjira's hills
and ghost gums
and photographic stills
of outback towns
and along railway lines
spearing the horizon
where a big sun
hemorrhages
into an evening sky.
Then settle back
and allow a familiar picture
to arise from behind closed eyes
of light patched office towers
and stacked apartments
with tall derricks
puncturing the night
as it slides by
in soundless haste.
And way below,
playing out on some
inner screen, follow
stuttering road signs
and arteries of red tail lights
leading to narrow alleys where,
as if funneled into an ear,
you hear the sound of sirens
being dragged
along hot, crowded streets.
In time, let the noise abate
until faces dissolve and life
slurries back into a thick
air conditioned hum.
Doze a little
then try to unpack
the images collaged
across the hours.
Nothing adheres.
What had once
held together seems
to fray and fall apart.
Feel a slight unease
as the engines begin
to throttle back and comence
the slow descent. There,
bubbled on the horizon,
see the glow of city lights
drawing in a converging arc
of flights like moths.
Notes.
Namatjira refers to great Australian and First Nation painter,
Albert Namatjira (1902 - 1959) famous for capturing central Australian landscape including the iconic Ghost Gum, a species of Eucalyptus tree. His work speaks to a deep spiritual connection to the land, something held by his people for well over 40,000 years.
Poem refers to flight across the continent of Australia, East to West, approx. distance 4000 km.
#MY! MY! OH MY! NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO SUCH A SIGH, A.K.A. "SUCH A HIGH"
AS TO SUCH A LOVELY VISION...
THE CREATOR'S PERFECT PRECISION
IN PRESENTING...
THE RAINBOW EUCALYPTUS TREE!
JUST WAIT TO YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST
LAY EYES UPON, COLORED STREWN, "SEE"
VIVIDNESS OF COLOR FINESSE *ROOTED*
IN THE GRANDEST LOVELINESS, LOCATED MAINLY IN THE PHILIPPINES ADDRESS! :-)
LIME GREEN AND ORANGE WITH TOUCHES OF POPPY RED...A RAINBOW WITH AN INLAY FLOW TO MAKE YOUR SOUL GLOW IN AWE AND ADMIRATION...{SMILE}
ADORNMENT WITH ASSORTMENT OF STRIKING LINES OF DESIGN, MY FIRST TIME SEEING, THIS BLEW MY MIND! SUCH A WONDER WHEN I STUMBLED UPON IT, NEXT THING I KNEW, MY SPIRIT FELT INSTANTLY LIT*
I HAD TO RESEARCH..."IS THIS REALLY LEGIT?"
SURE ENOUGH, IT WAS...
I WANTED TO WEEP LIKE A WILLOW, BECAUSE I FELT OVERJOYED!
EVEN WRITING ABOUT THIS...
I'M OVERJOYED! ! ! "OVER THE RAINBOW"
NO PUN INTENDED, JUST LENDED SHARING, THAT'S ALL, A BEAUTIFUL RECALL FROM MY LOVE OF THIS DISCOVERY! "GRAND!!!"
WE AS HUMANS AMONGST THIS LAND...
ISN'T WONDERFUL TO RELISH, CHERISH WHAT WE HAVE ON HAND, "NATURE'S BRAND" OF "BEAUTY ON DUTY" SERVING BEYOND JUST AESTHETIC...IT'S ALSO THE MAGNETIC FORCE AND SOURCE IT PROVIDES; LETS HOPE WITH MINDFUL ACTION, MAN WITH NATURE DOESN'T CAUSE ANY HARMFUL OBLIVIOUS FURTHER DIVIDE.
NATURE'S GIFTS WITH HUMANS...
SUCH A VISION AND ITS IMPACT MISSION,
TO COINCIDE...SIDE BY SIDE!!
"I APPRECIATE* AND ABIDE!"
THIS IS A DEDICATION TO THE RAINBOW EUCALYPTUS TREE...ONE OF THE LOVELIEST MARVELS I EVER DID SEE! I WANT YOU TO KNOW ONE THING...
MAY ALL WHO DISCOVER THE DAZZLING EFFECTS THAT THEY CAN COLLECT FROM THEIR GLORY AND UNDENIABLE AWE, BE HUMBLED FROM THE MAGNITUDE "MESMERIZINGLY"
OF WHAT THEY'VE SAW!

There is a big Eucalyptus tree right behind where I live
The trunk is large, with the branches straight and long
When the Arizona Sun is blazing down, makes nice shade
Even when branches die, they still have more to give
At sunset, a breeze will blow through the leaves like a song
The day is over and dues are paid
One recent summer's eve, storm clouds boiled in the West
A quick sand storm, lighting and thunder everywhere
A hard driving rain all night, streets ran bank to bank
The old tree stood fast, passed the test
A dead twisted limb laid on the ground, like saying a prayer
For the state that it was in, had only God to thank
Out of bed at five, hot cup of coffee in my hand
Went outside to make an overall inspection
Was everything still standing, or had everything washed away?
The early morning air was fresh, rain had bathed the land
Looked up and down the street, then in a westerly direction
The old fallen branch, there it lay
It caught my eye, seemed to be the right size
From past work injuries, my knees would go out every now and then
The branch needed a friend and I needed a walking stick
Picked it up,it was around waist high, I knew I had a prize
My work was cut out, had to give a new skin
Some sand paper, couple coats of varnish would do the trick
Took off the old gray scale, down to yellow wood with brown grain
Patched the cracks, so it would not split, couple of wraps of bailing wire
By God, it was starting to show some character
We started to smile and I had a good cane
Like a miracle, saved from the fire
Now as one, we walk together
Form:
These feelings have drawn me to the water's edge
Under the swaying branches of a eucalyptus tree,
Flickers of sun's light stream through the leaves
Dancing gently around my eyes...
The breeze of mother touching me.
A bird, she sings so sweetly my dear
As the trickle of water accompanies her,
A sonnet of nature...
A sound so *****
And i am here, absorbed in her love.
All of my senses are alive now
Oh how i have dearly missed your breath,
Missed the love you leave beating in my breast,
How breathtaking...
How arresting the sky forboding above,
Oh love...
Oh love i am melting,
Out here i am melting away
Into this day of dreaming you are near.
The enigma of air, it never tasted so good
The fear of the forgotten breathed away
Breathing a pathway for my heart too play,
Do stay love...
Open the door...
The paint, it has faded, the wood is scorn
The facade torn from its tender flesh
Exposing all...
Exploring more...
Do play love, open the door
We have danced before, beyond this dream
It may seem our lips have touched before
For it is within just one gentle kiss
The magic of a treasure box of bliss unfolds
Of all the stories told of love's intrigue
Rendering me...
Utterly intrigued...and so i breathe...
I just breathe.
Sitting under a generous eucalyptus tree
It's vibrant feet buried under dark gray moist
Ground. Its pendulum branches bending toward the
bubbly melodious canal; allowing the thin silvery
finger-like leaves to caress the meandering
Blue-green water.
In its canopy, groups of cicadas and crickets croon
Their music like chants from falsetto Himalayan
Monks. A scaly lizard with cowboy legs and
Protruding eyes stares annoyingly.
I inhale the scent of the morning's breath and
Observe a large blue dragonfly eating mosquitoes
For its breakfast. Looking at the bank of the
Canal. I see a yellow and black wasp, its line-like
Middle bobbing up and down as if dancing to
Nature's rhythm.
Above, the egg yolk colored weeds, a group of
gnats are showing off their acrobatic flying skills
By gliding in perfect formation. In the distance,
Clouds of dust like morning mist trail a tractor while
A group of field workers, hoes on their shoulders,
March like soldiers to a military band.
Looking up, I see the sky taking off its fluffy
Snow-white strapless dress revealing its blue
Magnificent body to those fortunate enough to
Notice. Standing in reverence, my eyes bathing
In salty liquid I no longer want to fish.
A light wind gently rocks our sailboat as
breezes begin to pick up on the sun drenched dock.
Cable wires rap and tap upon the mast as
daylight filters thinly through the clouds.
Egrets begin to peck around the gangway
foraging for scraps from bugs or grubs.
Great blue heron busily prepares her nest
high upon the eucalyptus tree.
I sit and daydream on the harbor deck
just enjoying the sea breeze, sights and sounds.
Kelp beds sway rhythmically with the currents
lapping the rocks at low tide, while
massive flocks of birds perch purposefully
near a lonely lighthouse high on the jetty.
Open seas spread toward the horizon where
pelicans busily dive bomb for fish.
Quarry rocks surrounding the harbor create
rocky protrusions, allowing ground squirrels to
spy sailors earnestly jibing on ocean water
tacking swiftly through the northwest winds.
Under the pylons and gangways
various starfish and mussels cling
with schools of fish swimming in tandem.
Xylophone sounds drift with music from a
Yacht club hosting a spring concert.
Zeal for the beauty of harbor life moves me.

This is
Just a glimpse
Of your
Luminosity.
Ocean eyes
Pixie nose
Cinnamon freckles
Giraffe neck
You stretch up, up
Until you can reach
The highest leaves
Of the tallest trees
Chewing with your
Perfect, dentist-approved teeth.
When you smile
Little dimples like
Craters on the moon
Pop up on your face
Pop, pop, pop
Trenches around
Your thin, pink lips
Bright against your
Ashen skin
Which burns so easily
In the sun’s golden rays
And peels like the bark of
A eucalyptus tree.
You were once
A scrawny boy
One I could over-power
With my height
But now we are equals
And soon you will
Pass me by
Until your head is
Surrounded by clouds
And you take gulps
Of mist like
Delicious cream puffs.
Your eyebrows are thick
Knitted in deep thought
Or arched in surprise
You look like grandfather
And just like him
When you are angry
You clear a path
Because you have
A roar as
Frightening as a lion’s
But when you are calm
You are regal like one too
When you walk
Out on the plane
Amongst the other lions
No one has to ask
Who you are
You are the king.

He’s such a cuddly little guy,
to lose him we’d regret.
And though he’s on the threatened list
he’s not endangered......Yet!
Unique to East Australia
but known the world o’er.
He lives high up in eucalypts
not on the forest floor.
His diet is the tough gum leaves,
he eats no other food,
and that is where the problem lies.
The future bodes no good.
For they’re cutting down the forests
at an increasing rate,
and one can only wonder
what is Koala’s fate?
So let us hope the powers that be
on logging, shut the gate,
to save our trees and wild life
before it’s all too late.
~~~
The Koala is a marsupial (not a bear) whose baby stays in the pouch for six months then
clings to her back for another six. They sleep for many hours through daylight, and feed at
night on the leaves of the eucalyptus tree from which they also derive most of their water
supply. They need a large amount of these trees to survive.
She was the only woman who listened to me.
The only lady who cared enough to care.
For within my own dead marriage
I was sadly alone, pathetically ignored and ridiculed.
For while I was alive, I was an afflicted man.
A man dead inside himself.
A man endlessly looking for absolutely nothing to find.
With clenched fists and thrown shoes,
I was the man dodging the vitriol.
The man who felt absolutely no love
For the last twenty years of his life.
But alas, I met her.
The only woman who ever listened to me.
My lovely Gertrude,
The tall busty eucalyptus tree
On Rideout Way.
And there I would sit in her sensual shade,
On warm summer afternoons with my thoughts and desires.
And with the presumptuous winds
Streaming and knifing from the west
She would reach down with her long leafy flowing arms
And allow me,
A mere man worth absolutely nothing,
To touch her.
To feel incontrovertibly,
Her scintillating life force!
