Deceit of sun when rays are still but porous;
unwelcome thief, afford my dream more seconds.
Some dappled shadows flit through mystic keyhole;
alight upon pellucid remnant image.
I stifle yawn as thoughts embrace the vision.
My ever-restless spirit merits story
which doesn’t evanesce at first obstacle
encountered when issues foisted upon me.
Embarked on travels, trinkets of high finesse
that crossed the boundaries of reality.
The past firmly imbedded in the future,
illuminating a path predictable and
imbued with fantasy and peccant grandeur.
Adroitly I manoeuvred through initial
self-doubt that plagued a multitude of people.
Circumlocutory whim of eidolon
expertly gathered evidence to support
demand that’s straddling realms, but I will resist.
I read the missive through and then carefully
enfold my dreams in cocoon, preserving them.
Unpleasant facts I spat out like an obol
that’s placed under tongue of recently deceased.
The critics can wait with Charon for day of
reckoning – future set aside for visions.
My dreams swim at the edge of river’s conscience.
Expectations made dreams luminesce brightly,
but withered in morning sun’s naïve splendour.
Like sands in the hourglass, the grains of wisdom
filtered through consciousness and needled thinking.
I set aside the search for epiphany.
Words That Come from Me
Kevin Davis, 2024
I always like it when my words you see,
Because they mostly come from me.
They start out deep inside my head,
And percolate—just waiting to be read.
When they are ready, I sit and write,
Hoping each line will come out right.
Sometimes I get stuck and help I ask,
Just searching for the right word fast.
Then, like magic, a word appears,
The one my fingers chased for years.
Or my wife will smile and say something new,
And I’ll find her thought was what I knew.
I ask her then to hear each line,
And she may say I’ve leaned too hard on rhythm.
The same old word, once more confined.
We laugh, our language intertwined.
It shows how well we think as one,
A bond still growing, never done.
So, with these words, my thanks to you—
It means the world they’ve reached you too.
As long as thoughts flow mind to page,
I’ll share them freely—age to age.
They speak of me, my joys, my doubt,
And through them all, my heart comes out.
So once again, my thanks to thee,
For loving words that come from me.
Wishing a truer vision of self
expression that breaks the mold of concealment
to face the costs of starkly truthful
to restore confidence chipped, eroded
to drain a bog of self doubt reason
Resolved the splattered mess of sham posing ends
my muffled cry, "Do it now"
Kick start a rush that fills one's veins
voicing faith that needs unearthing
breaking fragments of hibernation
Something happens
we lose our way
tightly wound plans fray
Agitated self hits the pause button
pandemic lethal from variants brutal
Sign around my neck: "Do Not Disturb
Self Improvement on Hiatus"
Poem composed: January 29, 2021 (revised April 12th)
Trickle, river fickle.
Step lively by the side.
Fate, thy strictures tickle!
Hell, Heaven, woe betide!
Wind atop the high cliff wall?
Funeral, thy pall.
Cherry blossoms, heft to haul.
End Times, give a call...
Thunderbolt, hover above.
Levee, fail to hold.
Fit, misfortune! O my glove!
Coals within, glow gold...
Will of human beings?
It must not have the clout.
Everybody, pack thy things!
Doubt, begin thy bout!
Ruin, cover all our world.
Dim hope, flee from here.
Dark fire, lava, how you hurled!
Grind them, O my gear...
Ravine out back, what to pack?
Stuff it in a crack!
Failure, will you? Fade to black?
Turn about and tack!
Sullen honeysuckle?
How better to make wine?
Bridge, beneath their feet buckle!
Doom, undying dine...
I ran from you to protect my heart
Or at least I thought I'd try
But little did I know back then
Just exactly why
Why run from what I feel inside
Deep within my heart
Instead of running towards the arms
From which I'd never part
It wasn't like we shared our lives
Beyond the words we'd say
We'd steal a kiss here and there
And then we'd walk away
Then I might not pass your way again
For quite a long, long time
Repressing all my feelings strong
I hoped to in my mind
It never worked as I had hoped
But why hope this anyway
Cause I've felt this way for many years
And doubt I'll ever change
The reasons to not feel for you
Were just covered with the lies
That I continually told myself
Why did I ever try
Cause no matter how, I think that I
Could push our fates away
I still wish that we were one
To this very day
Occasionally, we might stub a toe,
Or even sometimes, skin a knee.
Now while most of us fully recover,
It's not always done gracefully.
We might also get our nose bloodied,
Yet we're compelled to never quit.
So that whenever we stumble and fall,
We'll rise above, we won't just sit.
These are lessons learned early on,
Where managing pain is clearly taught.
Though for some the lesson is lost upon,
Those who couldn't see a victory if they fought.
If we fail in these efforts when struggling,
Then our survival will be shortened, not endured.
And should we decide to give in to what's easy,
Mankind's fear will remain as reassured.
This is why we must never give up or into,
The shadows of doubt that attack our soul.
Because the very fight is for our survival,
And if we lose , we may never be whole.
It’s vast and its infinite, it never ends
It goes on forever, no corners no bends
Planets are specks in the void that is space
Stars are the glitter that keep them in place
I passed all the tests of wit, strength and skill
They asked me to lead, I told them I will
For ten years we’ve thrust through the void aforementioned
We shall not return, we shall never be pensioned
A planet who’s star that no telescope glimpsed
The home to which all of humanity limps
I captain my family, they serve as crew
A format I know is familiar to you
I won this position through moral stability
My physical strength and mental agility
This journey we make through laborious black
Entrusted to those who refuse to look back
My children may live to see our destination
Their mission to create a new human nation
Though ten years have gone, since we fled that last war
I doubt I can stand thirty-seven years more
My wife shares the helm with my kids buckled in
I dribble a bit down my chinny chin chin
I’m losing my mind, and it’s a sure bet
It’s down to my kids yelling...
‘Are we there yet?’

Psst hey sub c, you feel that? Seems like she’s making changes, but do you think she really means it this time.
As her sub c, I can feel the shift within her attitude. Specifically towards the parts of her that she would never acknowledge before.
Yes, as her heart I second that.
Seems like she keeps trying to change my rhythm.
The tune is different from our old track.
I was pretty comfortable sitting at a slow, basic beat.
I was not even sweating from the stress that she in the past had put on me.
Hey, this is her ego, and I am afraid to say I agree with heart.
She and I haven't even been friends these days.
It's like she doesn't even care what I have to say.
For example, I try to get in her head and slip in tips, but she has a thick skull gate that keeps deflecting it.
This is me brain, and I can't believe what I am about to say, but I am in agreement with what ego just relayed.
He has been trying to send me messages, but I keep bouncing them back.
I mean, really, just return to sender she is trying to air control and direct her thoughts off of that old path.
Ego, you have a way of holding her back.
Even spirit tells me about your wicked affairs, like why would you put down the only higher power she made attempts at a relationship with. Really?
Come on, man, that's why we call you whack.
Why don't we all work together as one?
After all, if it wasn't for her and us, she and we would be none.
We just need to find a way to coexist.
Stop trying to sabotage one part, that part, this part, ish. She's trying to change the system from the inside out.
Can't we all be a team and give her the benefit of the doubt?
Help me, Lord, to do Thy Will
Let me chase more than a thrill
Lift up my eyes to that rugged cross
Assuring me my heart is not a loss
Help me, Lord, to understand
The time for rescue is at hand
My heart aches to feel You close
I’m so very thankful You arose!
Help me, Lord, to listen to grace
Fill my thoughts with Your embrace
Silence the stirrings of sin and strife
I'm reaching out to You, the joy of my life
Help me, Lord, to know Your word
Because without it being heard
I’d loose my heart to the depths of shame
Where I’d only have myself to blame
Help me, Lord, to shine the light You gave
Letting go of anger, never fearing the grave
Praising You with every word and deed
Giving my heart and soul to more than greed
Help me, Lord, to know Your voice
You are the reason my soul will rejoice
When the time is right, I’ll take my flight
Leaving this world for heaven so bright
Help me, Lord, to give praise to Your name
You are the reason that my soul overcame
All of the sorrow, the doubt and the fear
Today, I sing praises and shed a tender tear
Shingles is something I live with daily
Chosen for me by whom?
I have no idea.
I doubt it is my choice, as it is painful.
My skin is tender; shingles is red, raw, sore, and rough.
This disease is something I try to forget about every day.
I can push it back into the farthest corners of my brain.
If I am deeply engaged in painting, cartooning, or writing.
But then BAM it comes back in full force, unbidden, unwelcome.
This malady is something I have lived with for over two years.
My doctor has told me it might be until the end of my life.
I remember staring at a bottle of morphine and codeine one time.
The doctor had warned me if I took them both, I would die.
I was in enough pain at that moment to almost do it.
I have no idea why I didn’t.
I threw the morphine pills away,
so I cannot ever be tempted with that again.
In case the pain gets worse.
