HOW CAN THAT BE
March, nineteen seventy five
it was a night, I could never forget.
I was in bed reading a book,
when I noticed the blue curtain moving.
Followed by a gush of cold air,
coming in from a closed window,
filled the room and then enveloping me.
My grandmother Dolores’ face appeared,
so close to my face and kissed me.
It was so vivid, so lifelike that I felt
the tenderhearted kiss she gave me so deeply
and it would stay in my mind and heart forever.
How can that be, when she was in the Philippines,
which is thousands of miles away from the United States.
I got a call the next day that she passed away!
10/1/20 The "Unexplained" Poetry Contest Carolyn Devonshire
AKA the saint from Arichat
Devoted wife to Johnny
Beloved mother and grand-mother
Kindness exuding from every pore
A smile and kind word for everyone
Lover of family reunions
Any reason for a card game or party
Prize-winning baker of pies galore
Apple, date, blueberry, custard
Raisin, strawberry, lemon meringue
Date cookies and tea biscuits
Homemade bread and buns
Even made the best baked beans
Last rites given three times
The Lord finally couldn’t wait
And gently took her
As we recall those open arms and warmest hugs
We get that little taste of the welcome
Awaiting us when our turn comes
To knock at heaven’s gate
AP: Honorable Mention 2020
Allowed preachers to be unexceptional
Sacrificed priesthood as liberty ordain
Prophecy lingua by Hiberno accent
Endued with melodic timbrels and dances
No differs from Sufi whirling for their God
Sung the song as Moses led the sacred song
Anthemic and ambience grunge as cathedral bells
Ingrained pedal's drum and chiming guitar
Proclaimed gladness, love and peace
No men to the left and women to the right
No evil, devil, debil and imbecile words
No who errs severely retarded
Equality is their deed
Narrative music poked holy book verses
Told your own story since war pained
Die hard being Irish, shaking the pitch
Both IRA and UK, put the guns down
Tribute to: Dolores O'Riordan
Ah! just, just a...
Meaningful, such a
Meaning touch
Ah! tan significativo
tacto significativo
Ah! just, just a...
Meaningful, such a
MeaningFUL touch
Ah! sólo...
Significativo, tal
Tacto significativo
Tacto significativo
Love you so much

6.Konosuba: Is It Wrong for King David to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?.
My life is a psalm filled with poetic justice.
For all the giants I slew,
I still see myself in king Saul .
Consulting the dead on the self fulfilling prophecy of my falling on my sword.
Zombies accompany my harp with shrieks of Dolores O'Riordan,
As I seek to meditate on how life is a never ending war.
A short lived conquest over temptation,
A pyrrhic victory that claimed my sons.
All I'm left with are the lessons from proverbs,
The fear of God put in me, left from the boldness of youth.
Not any wiser, just sneakier.
Age bends spine when I just want to walk upright in Notre dame.
To stand up for love not having ever stood it up,
But I don't see how that is possible now.
I have gambled it away to earn myself this hatred.
I don't know where to start fixing the broken trust,
But if nothing else, believe I loved you.
If not, believe i loved you and a lot(...they really meant nothing, babe).
Holding a boom box on your front yard,
I bring the arc(k) home, dancing a fool outside you window.
La Mona cambió su estilo
Al lucir su nuevo vestido
Su cabello enchinado
Sufrió un estirado!
Su carita neutral fué embarrada
Con maquillaje que ni jabón pudo separarla.
Color bolde de rojo colorado
Ni sabemos como sus bembes pudo abarcarlo
Pestañas azules y cejas de 3 colores
Con ojos casi abiertos sufriendo dolores.
Mejillas de rosita morado
Circulaba sus cachetes enforrados
Alineardo sus ojos con rabos de gato
El pueblo sufrió un grande espanto!
Al saber y conocer
Su sencilles se echó a perder.
Bajo toda esa pintura de maquillaje
Dejó la Pobre Mona con un rasquillaje!
Con tacones de cinco pulgadas
Los zapatos de ella aún se burlaba.
“Mona! Mona! Quitame de tus pies
Bótame de toda una vez!”
La Mona se vistió botando el algodón
Al ponerse vestimenta de Seda hasta en el botón!
Con correas (cintos) tan apretada
Como una faja le quedaba!
Al ponerse sus lentes de sol
Lentes de estilo caro por diseñador
“Hay, Mona...Mona! Si te piensas ser guapa
Por qué te tapas
Bajo las onzas y libras e disfrace
Que solo esclaviza tu enlace?”
“Ahora...Ya no soy Mona...
I wake to the desert, talking to the wind;
its voice is dry and muffled.
Sand cuts my skin as I walk;
nowhere feels like a place I belong to.
The seeming figs glow like a distant fire.
My feet are melting with every step I take.
I lose my balance when I stride;
I am surprised as the light darkens me.
Flames whirl at the edge of my sleep.
Dolores remains there, carrying fragments in her hair.
She murmurs, "Take care of my loved ones".
I turn around, but her stare does not leave me.
Water is only a mirage in my eyesight.
I watch their tiny faces drowning in silence.
I choke my breath as I consume the grime;
I confront myself, saying, "They cannot die".
They illustrate that the truth awaits at the edge.
My fist holds a gun, empty and cold.
Comfort lies in lying down and forgetting:
where living means losing myself in the unknown.
Anti-Poem – “At The Hollywood Plaza With Eddie And Dolores”
(Poet’s Instruction – Kindly play “You Can’t Be True, Dear,” by Ken Griffin, 1946, while reading).
she be smelling mighty good my dolores
she be my mexican chick from silver lake
man her deep brown eyes hypnotize me
her momma say she like me and my ford
I be driving a red ’46 super deluxe coupe
my catholic beads be hanging down from
the rearview mirror they tap like dancers
tonight she be dressed for eating burgers
my dolores she and her tight green dress
we be cruising the miracle mile for shows
when she say she want to see cary grant
i say you mad girl but let’s go to the plaza
in hollywood we can sit close in the lobby
we can listen to the organ music and kiss
maybe we see cary grant walking by there
maybe your big dream come true tonight
now we be kissing under fiery chandeliers
the flashy famous people be passing us by
the organ whining from a distant corridor
howling like a ghost in a greasy graveyard
my sweet dolores she be asking the time
when a pretty woman she sits down by us
i’m thinking she be a star at last i say hello
the blue-eyed babe she smile back at me
a red flower be pinned to her brown curls
here on a date she say to us smoking now
my babe say we be waiting for cary grant
now the girl say we might wait a long time
she say she saw him once at the florentine
she say he even tipped her a five dollar bill
man her deep blue sky eyes hypnotize me
now she say her date is outside in a sedan
be careful she say hollywood can be cruel
the organ music still be playing in whispers
moaning like pale ghost girls in a neon fog

I did not really know you; but somehow your comments
about the two poems I entered in your contests stuck
with me and I intuitively sensed good vibes from you.
Your comment on my first gave me encouragement.
Your comment on my second entry gave me delight.
However, the poem I penned for your last contest
“Footprints” Old or New For A Prize” was not accepted
for I was one poem too late at the time I entered.
How can I forget the comment you gave on my poem
“How Can That Be” about my grandmother Dolores .
You stated “I believe Dolores’s spirit visited you before
she died (I’ve had similar premonitions.)”, how can I?
A week before you passed, I saw your face a couple
or a few times and I wondered about your silence,
why you had not given any contest and tried to shake
these thoughts off and then I heard the news about you.
Your other comment on my poem “How Can That Be”
was “Your entry is fascinating”. You are the fascinating
one, Carolyn because you did reach me and I do not have
to understand why, like your “The Unexplained” contest.
We met in that contest and you reached out and drew
me back in. Good bye, beautiful soul for touching me.

Happy Father's Day to you and David
I can't even tell you in words
How I miss you all
I hope everyone in the family is doing great
I guess one great thing about Heaven
I see all of our great family members every day
This Father's Day I just wanted to send
You a card to tell you everything is great here
I have to say in Heaven I get to see
How much Mikey and Abby are growing up so fast
Please don't cry dad,
I love you so much
God always tells me to keep an eye on you guys
When you find a ladybug in the house
You will always know it's me
When you hear those strange noises upstairs
You will know I'm here checking out my old bedroom
So Dad tell everyone, I will be with you guys always
Well I have to go now,we are having lunch with
Roy, Rita, Dolores, Daniel, Uncle Mike, George and Aunt Connie
It's kind of an Olympic restaurant up here
So for now Happy Father's Day
Love you always
