A community of poets,
from all over the world,
with cultures, beliefs,
and faiths, though different,
can participate in this contest
contributing their viewpoints.

As a common platform,
it treats amateur, professional,
famous and budding poets alike.

Inspired by the flawless poems
written by the luminaries,
the novices try their hand,
so innovatively, giving colors
to their thoughts, feelings and ideas.

Encouraged by the comments
posted by the fellow Soupers,
beginners, through their poems, tell us,
how to make our lives so sublime.

The saying, “A poet can see
what the Sun can’t”, seems right,
if we glance at the poems of every Souper.

If we venture to peep into the Soup,
poems of different genres,
as if soldiers doing march-past,
parade before our eyes, at one place,
quenching the thirsts of
the readers around the globe.

Premium Member Rats and Politicians

Lower you say? No way!!!!!!
Sewer rats fare better
Politicians are the bottom
Of this poetic society

Yet for all their failings
We are protected
We are spoiled
Laziness is our new Idol

Oh let us sit on our chairs
Ranting poetic verse
Let us not lift a finger
Contributing to society, this must surely be a sin

Besides, if we endeavor to help?
Will they not label us politicians?
NO NO NO not that
Let me complain!!!!!!!!
He who complains is KING

Power corrupts!!!
This is true
The fools who don’t vote
Keep them there like glue

You too can be a politician
If you really care
To get off your azz
Go change the world, I dare you

Oh wait you shall see
Not so easy in that high moral chair
With all your critics climbing to demolish
Re-election is a love affair

Brave men and woman have died
So that you can have freedoms and the vote
Be ashamed if you are a critter on the couch
Of those fine men who died for your right

To do nothing
Yelping like dogs and complain, sure feels good
Politicians are people just like you, yuck!!!!!
Good and bad there is no doubt

When good men fail to speak out
Bad ones fill their shoes
So I say this to all
Stop your laziness……fools

For surely, the fool is the one
Who selects the king he does not want
Unless of course
He was busy with a nap and missed it all

If you are not a politician
Who are you?
I dare ask?

Notes: This sure is not meant to defend politicians, this is meant as a humorous write to show that not all things are so black and white. I certainly do no like the current state of affairs, but I do know this, not participating, not contributing, not helping to make things better, not getting involved, are not the answers. People died for our freedoms, and we have become to lazy to stand up for them. If you don’t like who is in Office, then by all means let’s make it you who is in Office. Many good politicians are saddened that when they get there, they have no support. Here is a happy thought, when you wake up each day ask yourself, “what can I do today, to make this world a better place” and it can be the smallest of details, all great things start with a seed!

Happy Days to all you Soupers!

Contributing To the Story (Part 2): Enhancing God's Glory

we have a tendency to develop a foolish pride when we see our name on anything
be it an award, certificate, team jersey or a championship ring
we think we need titles to feel important in life
but none of that contributes to the story that is Jesus the Christ
your name on a jersey won't make you play better
a title after your name won't change the content of a letter
your name on a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
doesn't guarantee you a life of happiness without some pain
so what have you contributed to God's story?
what have you done to enhance His glory?

In the Scriptures there's this woman who anointed Jesus with an expensive oil
yet only one person is referred to in the text and that's by his negative foil
he was denoted by his affliction, his disease was brought to attention
he then had the nerve to criticize that woman for her unselfish deed
until Jesus told him to "leave her alone" because for Me she fulfilled a need
that man seemed to be more worried about the oil's cost
and couldn't perceive that the life of Jesus was about to be lost
he acted like he was so concerned about the ever-present poor
but Jesus saw through the hypocracy that he tried to implore
that woman was spiritually motivated when she made that sacrifice
she contributed all she had to the story that is Jesus the Christ
God only desires that you do the best that you can
when wholly subscribing to His righteous plans

yet that woman with the alabaster jar her name is never mentioned
but her contribution to the Biblical story has gotten everlasting attention
in the scheme of life your name is not that important and a title won't make you great
as it's only what you've contributed to the story or done to enhance the faith

Premium Member Wrapped In Love

When holidays have come to call, and someone needs a friend,
to adorn a tree, to hang a wreath, it can help the heart to heal
To hold a hand, to stay awhile, or to share a million tears
To be an ear.........and be a friend, ... might be all you need to do

The gift of friendship, can come to call,
in the coldest darkest hour
It can come to lift a fretful brow,
and can lighten the darkest cloud

If someone has lost the joy they knew
and cannot see beyond
When plans they made were swept away
and it seems their hope is gone

A friend to bring a smile again, a laugh, a meal to share
A warm embrace, a day to rest, are the best of gifts to share

The greatest gift, in the worst of times, does not come wrapped in bows

Mental Rumination

**Mental Rumination**
Every single day brings with it a new and unfamiliar word, each one carrying its own distinct meaning that often resonates with the shifts in my life. Retirement, for instance, has proven to be a profound transformation, especially during this initial year. I had envisioned a seamless transition, convinced that I had everything perfectly mapped out. However, as the days progress, I catch myself grappling with self-doubt, second-guessing nearly every decision I make, particularly those concerning my health and overall mindset.

It seems like a soundtrack of sorts plays in my mind—a loop of Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song.” The lyrics echo my innermost desires: a yearning to do absolutely nothing and simply enjoy the leisure for which I had longed. Reflecting on my aspirations for retirement, I realize that this very notion of relaxation was all I had ever dreamed about.
So, it perplexes me that a motivational speaker, someone who is supposed to uplift and inspire, is instead filling me with guilt for not maximizing every moment of this so-called freedom. Why am I feeling this way when I thought this phase of my life would be a time of unbridled joy and fulfillment?
I've recently become aware that I've gained some extra weight, and it's not contributing positively to my overall well-being.
It's interesting how these YouTube Nigerian movies have such a strong allure for me; they hit my taste buds like an addictive substance.
Although many of their movies are poorly directed and lack the technical finesse one might expect from a polished production, I find myself drawn to their charm and vibrant storytelling.
There is something uniquely entertaining about the way they portray life, and I cannot help but get lost in the attention-grabbing plots and often over-the-top drama.
It's a guilty pleasure that I know I need to manage better,
Mental rumination is a genuine experience that many of us face as human beings. It is essential to acknowledge it, as it impacts our thoughts and overall well-being.
While it seems like I am grounded on my couch, and doing absolutely nothing
I cannot be happier doing that.
But as the saying goes, I will take one day at a time. “Lord Jesus

Premium Member Monument To the Old Me

Lurking amongst shabby, impenetrable, undergrowth,
cloistered effigy is sheltered from casual view,
languishing, neglected, forgotten... but content.

No longer possessing a name; no longer serving a purpose;
whatever inscription once etched thereupon is
long-since faded, lost to the whimsical wisps of time.

In bygone years, its bronze cheeks would be flushed;
embarrassed, apologetic even, for its very existence.
Wriggled under the weight of myriad strangers' eyes,
recoiled from attempts to elicit illicit secrets,
perennial trepidation of exposure to ridicule.

But that was in the past... before the truth was embraced.
It can no more alter who it is than it can deter
the sun from setting, dissuade the tides from rising
or discourage the Earth from spinning on its axis.

And it has no wish to do so.

Feathered vermin perched atop its head defecate,
careless and carefree, contributing to the
guano collage caked on its carved countenance;
the similitude is not lost on it.

So it sits... silent and unobtrusive; stoic but stalwart:
the epitome of art imitating life imitating art.
Languishing, neglected, forgotten... but content.

She’s usually smiling, usually inspiring, usually delighting – in the moment, the quiet, the light of a spirit who brings her fulfillment. ~ quote by author

Usually, she gives – generously
With joy, offering her gifts
Her kindness, her acceptance
The wonder of a tender word
Pretty songs of hope, shadowed
By love that she usually knows
Will forever abide inside her
Heart, where there grows…
	A melody of gentleness
The depths of serenity

Usually, she sighs – thankfully
With delight, presenting her smile
Stirring feelings of aliveness,
Passionate prose and poetry that
Shows much more than she says
It is this poem of her faith…
	That silences every dread

Usually, she tries – contributing
With excitement, a promise
In the shadow of her provision
The impact of a love so sure,
So brilliant it shines, like the sun
Sparkling like stars in the night
Reminding hearts why …
	She believes, without evidence
To verify her faith, she believes
	Because, usually, she knows
What it means to listen
To the whisper of His still, small voice…
The mystery, the chorus of a psalm
Drawn from the feeling He excites
Feeling so strong it is alive

Usually, she abides in the light
The rich, vibrant hue of satisfaction
That comes from knowing…

The Son who is…
far more brilliant than the sun
	will ever be

Usually, she believes
Without a doubt,
In the One who brought her out
	Of the darkness!

Into the assurance of a LOVE that is eternal

Premium Member Free Will Is a Thing of Beauty

Free will is a thing of beauty
On the best of days
We rank ourselves a notch
Above the animal kingdom
Because there’s more to life

More than simple procreation
And being part of a life cycle
So we believe we are more
Than the sum of our parts

The meaning of life
Ours ultimately to define
With potential for challenge
And surpassing ourselves

In a multitude of ways
Finding each our path
Contributing to evolution
The advancement of mankind

Humanitarian achievements
In facets of arts and science
And whatever other tangent
We can possibly dream up

Scrutinizing colonies of ants
Humans are a breed distinct
With their inflated egos
Focused on wrestling for supremacy

Free will is a thing of beauty
Bent on destroying more than creating
In a world of chaos there’s no denying
The meaning of life is a conundrum
Ours to decipher as we cling to hope

On humility

Defeat and failure grow people sad,
Neither cultivating humble instead
Humble, the core elements of humility
With self-restraint and obeying the reality

The pros and cons of oneself accepted
As well as other people's interests recognized
Humility contributing harmony to a community
While arrogance bringing in animosity

I have once been in a hierarchical situation
Where is full of ad lip ranks and disdain
I have been in the free countries with kin
Having been upholding fairness doctrines

The best I wise up, the less I clear
Of these If I ought to be humble, or despair
