Shifting the Sands of Envy

Tall, proud, somewhat conceited,
the elegant yacht sailed into the bay
(a place of meetings,
snuggery to a medley of lesser idols)
as a swan takes to a lake.
It dropped anchor,
aloof from the rest,
aware of the stare of covetous eyes,
it basked in calm waters.
Come night, its garland of lights
illumine the grace of a presence;
a rarity, speaking of riches,
unimaginable wealth;
dipping and bowing in exaggerated gestures:
a language all its own.

At the break of day, it set sail once more,
on a broad reach leaving the barnacled bay behind,
distancing itself from the blue bay’s waters,
the green of its eyes.
Yet, miles away on a distant shore,
once fierce waves, now a dying wake
make a gentle ripple
shifting the sands of envy
even as memory of its billowing sails
vanishes over the horizon
urged on by the persistence of protective winds.

I Am a Masterpiece

Author Dana Redricks
November 21, 2019

I was created to be a masterpiece.
I am an original creation from
God and there is none like me in
all the universe.
Who am I? I am a child of the
most high God meant to be an
imitator of Jesus Christ.
I'm an original flaws and all
God accept me for who I am, to
make me a better me, and more
like him in all I say and do.
My goal in life is to be a better
me not by what others think of
me, but who and what God thinks
of me, and know I can be.
I am an original masterpiece
created to love, created to live,
and created to give.
I am not conceited believe me
that's true, but I am just me.
I am liberated and meant to be
free.
I am a masterpiece design by
the master creator and that
goes for you as well.
We all are a masterpiece in the
eyes of God.
We were all made in the image
of God.

Afraid

I'm afraid of dying
But I'm also afraid of living

I'm afraid of getting shot or stabbed
But I'm also afraid of falling of a skateboard or driving over the speed limit

I'm afraid of losing family members
But I'm also afraid of having kids

I'm afraid of drinking too much and throwing up
But I'm also afraid of how I'll look if I don't drink at all

I'm afraid that I might be too conceited and full of myself
But I'm also afraid that I wont fit in and nobody will like me

I'm afraid that I won't fulfil my dreams and aspirations
But I'm also afraid that I will become successful but I still won't be satisfied

I'm afraid that I will find the love of my life but she will be unfaithful to me
But I'm also afraid that i will find the love of my life and i will be unfaithful to her

I'm afraid that when i die I will not be remembered for what I want them to remember me for
But I'm also afraid that when i die no one will remember me at all

Can we be 'alone with G-d?'
  Is that an oxymoron?
    Or is it brutally real?

Is it only that Man is in search of G-d?
Or is it that G-d is also in search of Man?

             ***************

When we are born, we are totally dependent on our parents.
Our parents are G-d for us then.
    As we grow, we come to see our parents' limitations;
But do we then move toward G-d naturally?

Why, no! We move, in fact we race---the nerve of us!---away from G-d:
Stronger, faster, more powerful, more confident,
    Proud, haughty, conceited, arrogant,
      Infatuated with ourselves,...

Until the day that we suddenly sense our own physical limitations,
and thus begin the long, slow, agonizingly painful trek---
    humbled now and experientally wiser---
      back to our Creator...

...ending in restful death, the ultimate acceptance of life.

My Alter Ego

Together, side by side,
Shoulder to shoulder,
One destination, one path,
Sparkles in our eyes
Winds in our hairs
Two hearts beating as one,
We walked a synchronized walk
At even pace, at an even tempo
Smiles on our lips
Under a brilliant blue sky
with warm spring sunshine
carrying us aloft
on the wings of the breeze,
With love in our hearts
We were poised to soar high,
But then…

One of us went rogue,
became self-conceited,
cocky egomaniac and…
created God;
Fear made the other make the devil;

One created God in his own image,
In his own image the other made the Devil.

A Missing Piece of Life

What happen with going to church to
praise & pray?

stay for afternoon services to seek what
the pastor have to say.

Have dinner as a family, like please pass
the tray.

We always respected what the elders had
to say.

When adults was talking kids had to go
away and play

Didn't have much but, we made a way.
laughing and playing having a wonderful
day.

When life seemed rough & the going got
tough we came together with love for one
another.

Mom-ma & daddy worked so hard to keep
their family together.

Your friends would never cross each other
because we all was like sisters & brothers.

We didn't have cell phones or internet
service so we always made away to check
in on each other.

These are the days we truly had love for
one another.........................

Laying the Bible down have led us to
destruction. We have become
conceited and not praying for one another.

Know Thyself

~ KNOW THYSELF
Honest examination brings truth

~ KEEP IT REAL
It saves you from the need to convince others through a multitude of words

~ DO NOT MANIPULATE
It is an act of psychological violence

~ BE CONSISTENT
It is the foundation of trust

~ SAY WHAT YOU MEAN AND MEAN WHAT YOU SAY
Why say something that lacks integrity?

~ WALK LIKE YOU KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING
Predators will think twice

~ ALWAYS LOOK YOUR BEST
Details matter. But do not become vain or conceited. Moderation is key

~ ALWAYS LOOK PEOPLE IN THEIR EYES
It is an act of personal power, and shows you have nothing to hide

~REMEMBER THE NAMES OF EVERYONE YOU MEET.
It brings favor in your life

~ KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS
It could save your life, and possibly the lives of others.

~ ALWAYS CHECK YOUR MOTIVES
You have to be honest with your inner-most being, but you should always know what truly motivates you.

~ TAKE RISKS IN LIFE
Count the cost, then go for it with complete abandon

~ DO NOT FEAR CONFRONTATION
The greater your awareness, the less ignorance can control you

~ CHOOSE YOUR WORDS CAREFULLY
Those who speak rashly have not considered the power or meaning
of their words

~ DO NOT BE A BLIND FOLLOWER
It keeps you from drama and from unforeseen danger

~ WHATEVER YOU DO, DO IT WELL
The more blood, sweat and tears you put in your endeavors, the more purposeful you are. It is the building block to building your name

~ WAKE UP AND DO NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP
Stay alert .There is a real enemy, and he never sleeps. You have been warned.

~ BE A HERO
Protect the innocent. Defend the defenseless. They are vulnerable and targeted

~ BE A VOICE FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS
In a world where bad is good, and good is bad, we need bold and courageous people to speak out without apology. For example: "WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN!???"

~ COVER THE NAKED
Whether it is lack of clothing, or dignity, or identity, be their covering. Exploitation is a crime against the human spirit.

~ DO NOT LET ANYONE DIE ON YOUR WATCH
If you see someone dying and you keep going, then you do not know that you are already dead. The life of every soul cannot be priced. We are NOT disposable

“In situations of captivity the perpetrator becomes the most powerful person in the life of the victim, and the psychology of the victim is shaped by the actions and beliefs of the perpetrator.”
? Judith Lewis Herman, Trauma and Recovery: The Aftermath of Violence - From Domestic Abuse to Political Terror

Egotists are an enemy to an empathetic butterfly.
When your life functions like a cognitive chrysalis,
narcissistic spiders silently creep and crawl,
sucking at the sanity of your fractured cocoon,
wrapping their beastly venomous black legs,
around a trapped heart, weaving their conceited web.

This mutating sanctuary is a double edged sword.
Even when the door to your cage is open,
idle wings remain motionless - reluctant to fly.
When the pupal mind is frozen at a larval stage,
caught between the confusion of love and hate,
conscience speculates over being a victim or a villain.

Thoughts linger in constant conflict with subdued soul,
torturing the heart, so incarcerated wings remain stagnant.
Afraid of avian predators - too anxious to escape their tormentor,
you become a willing martyr, sympathising with the abuser.
The pain may be palpable, but their atrocities are forgiven,
so you remain stranded from their manipulative deceit.
Forming an emotional bond in a savage cycle.
