Premium Member About Sunflowers

When I came home, I saw what you had done.
            Those funny sunflowers
                                 spontaneously sprung
and which bordered our drive a bit too carelessly,
reaching their leafy arms a tad too far -
                                                                    you'd cut them down!

You'd told me on the phone you'd cut the weeds,
and I'd been happy about that. . . until I saw
              and understood.
How odd
and yet how utterly explicable it seems to me
that you would look at something bright and blond and beaming
                and see a noxious weed.

The driveway looks naked now and uninviting -
similar to how I sometimes see your soul
                       after you cut me
                          to the core.

It's funny about sunflowers. . . they always come back,
         sometimes to a different spot,
and grinning.

[Verse]
You're a taker
There's just no give in you
A heartless heartbreaker
Lookin’ for someone to use
And the worse part of it is
You can't see that you don't give…a…damn…
…And fool that I am…

[Chorus]
I keep giving and giving my heart and soul
Giving you pieces now I’m not whole
You can look straight through my heart
I disappear more everytime that you trade
The love I give you for another up grade
Everytime you come back to fill up
From my ever depleting cup
I have to ask myself why
I keep letting you run me dry
I have to ask myself why
Oh oh I let you run me dry.

[Verse]
you can't be tied down
you sure don't have any shame
you just want me around
To play your cruel games
you like to mess with my head
to have your ego fed…. Well that's tough
I've finally had enough!

[Chorus]
I keep giving and giving my heart and soul
Giving you pieces now I’m not whole
You can look straight through my heart
I disappear more everytime that you trade
The love I give you for another up grade
Everytime you come back to fill up
From my ever depleting cup
I have to ask myself why
I keep letting you run me dry
Oh oh I have to ask myself why
I let you run me dry.
Oh oh oh oh

If I Set You Free

I released your hand, and let you fly
Hoping you'd return, with a loving sigh
But the winds of freedom, swept you away
Leaving me with tears, and a heart that's gray

I set you free, with a love so true
But you didn't come back, and I don't know what to do
The silence is deafening, the emptiness a pain
Longing for your touch, but you're gone, and I remain

If you love someone, set them free
But what if they don't return, and I'm left to grieve?
What if the freedom, I gave with an open heart
Becomes the very thing, that tears us apart?

I'll hold on to memories, of the love we shared
But the ache within me, will forever be spared
For I set you free, with a love so pure and bright
But you didn't come back, and now I'm left to face the night.

Premium Member Three Shots for a Great Afterlife

I get three shots
on an afterlife
when I come back
as a living thing,
I've decided,

but only if this world
gets better
and not worse.

I choose an assortment.
I choose mythical
and nonmythical.

First, I'll be a Marahute
and save those who save me,
or an albatross who sails
the sky with unfathomable care.

Second time around,
I will be a Secretary Bird.
She stomps around
like it's no one's business,
and she tramples over dinner
al dente.

Third time and last chance,
I will obviously be a mermaid
with everything perfectly proportioned
and enhanced, just for me.

I will choose to be
the most beautiful mythical creature
of my imagination.

I will see
everything
under the sea.

That is where
everything
shuts up.
I will only have my eyes
and an appreciative heart,
and amazingly long
rainbow hair.

The fish will
appreciate me.
Otherwise,
they will just keep swimming.

Either way,
I will have the sky, the land,
and the sea.

A Rock Name Stabile

There by the table, a rock did lay,
a silent companion, come what it may.
I had made a deal, so clear and true-
Stabile would clean, while I went to work, too.
But when I returned, the house was still,
not a sound to be heard, all was too chill.
I searched high and low, left and right,
and there was that rock, by my socks I really like.
I asked him why the cleaning wasn't done,
but Stabile said nothing, his face without fun.
The next day I left with the deal still the same.
Yet again, I came back, my rock taking the blame.
"What a mess!" I cried, with a stern, echoing voice.
I looked at Stabile, "You have but one choice -
Explain why you broke our deal, or out you will go!
This house must be clean, before the clock strikes ten, you know!"
Once again, I opened the door, dread in my heart,
but to my surprise, not a speck to depart.
The house was pristine, not a thing out of place -
I went to find Stabile, to thank him to his face.
But all I could find was a note on the floor,
telling a tale I'd not heard before.
"Thank you for letting me stay," the note did say,
"Maybe one day I'll come back just to play."
"Sorry it took so long, I had to get a maid,
but I had to wait till Friday,
when I knew you got paid.
The bill is on the table, for you to see,
I hope it's not too much, the house was very dirty."
"I would of cleaned it myself,
but I just wasn't able."
"So long and goodbye."
Signed your friend, Stabile.
I stood there, amazed, at this rock's noble deed.
grateful for the gesture, and that it was done at fast speed.
Maybe I'll see my solid friend again,
invite him for coffee and the day we can spend.
Goodbye for now, my friend who stood still.
Now, how am I going to pay this outrageous bill?

Triptych: the Haunted Emerald Windows

"Triptych: The Haunted Emerald Windows"

a story
in 3 parts
affixed to a wall

2 of the pieces
fold

left and middle
hidden

the right
plays part

of the symphony
in 3

but not
the all

***

we remove ourselves
from the present
that is the past
we sink into the wall,
through the right -
framed,
the portrait
of a story,
but not
the all,
we move forward
deep within a forest
towards the
centre of the story
into the safety
of a circle,
drawn by the fingers
of trees;

outside the circle
2 of the pieces
fold,
left and middle
hidden, closed.

the inner world
of as above
so below
moves forward
within the story
watched by
unfamiliar creatures
that come
and go
reflected in
the glow of shadows
within a strange forest
opening and closing
portals, illuminated
by the lights of
phantoms
moving through
the haunted
emerald windows

***

at the edge of the forest
on the peripheral,
a child hesitates,
a snowy white owl
on the right shoulder
on the left a squirrel,
the child faces 3 portals
left, right and middle

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

Premium Member Mad Moon Woman

You're a charred sweet bramble
a mosaic of cloud and blood
a pantry of wound and balm.
You fester, heal, then repeat...
at times the flesh must protect the peel.

Straddle the moon-nobody to harm you there.
To judge your jagged necessities...
just you and the lint of time entwined.

You'll come back down, that's for certain.
Strong as a mountain at twilight
or a blue bird song in black bird refrain...

Retrieve your soul from the mossy stone.
As the parched blue eye bleeds out red rain.
With that spicy dab of mad moon woman revenge.

For now, lay low-while on the mend.
Debride from the mockingbird's glass song.
The murder will eventually hang itself.
Upon chords of your mad moon woman wisdom.

Premium Member I Won'T Be Home For Christmas

I won't be home
not For Christmas
nor for funerals
not for birthdays
Wanted to never see you
on those days so hard to get through.

When you abandoned the sweetness
and chased your dream into the alley
When you felt it best to see me cry!

When your mind changed with the direction of the wind
I stood there with spit on my fingertips...
holding my hand in the air, Waiting for the winds of hope
to blow your love and loyalty in my direction

Home is a strange city
where no one knows me.
where no one will invite me to sit across the table
forced to smile as I play with my stuffing on china with flowers
As I remember the children laughing and opening gifts.
I remember the long silent ride back to our house.

I reflect back when I got on my knees
before climbing into our cold bed
The prayers just uttered coming back void.
Ask God to just let you touch me again
I needed your body-heat to keep warm.
I needed your support to continue on
for the sake of the commitment.

For the sake of waiting for love to remind you
Even if pity could hold you there...
I would not be ashamed of what you sacrificed
When love had given birth to pity-
I would have held on without pride.

Now I never want to come back to that town.
Where no one cares that you don't love me.
I am in remission.
Alone but it's OK.
Please tell our future to visit me.
On the seashores.
The sun warms me in
my new home
where no one knows me.
All my old friends are
dead and dying. So...

I won't be home
not For Christmas
nor for funerals
not for birthdays
Wanted to never see you
on those days so hard to get through.

Just my spirit and the ocean.
and one day tell our grandchildren
Grandma will be here walking;
With one finger in the air moistened with spit.
to see which way the wind blows.

Premium Member Come Back

Come Back

The air is thick
and hard to breathe.
I am tired of waiting,
but will never give up.
You have been too long,
but that does not matter.
I will pretend there was a reason.
It will be a simple explanation,
that has nothing to do...
with the bad "real" thing
that caused you to leave at all.

The driveway is empty.
I can see down the street.
Nothing.
You are not there.
You are not anywhere.
Come home.

I need you more now,
than I did before.
I know that God will bring you back...
if it is His will.
I am okay with that,
as he knows what is best.
Yet!

I am here,
and I will not let fear win.
I will sit here and spin,
round and round...
so I will not be let down.
Wherever you are,
be still and know,
that I will not go....
anywhere until you are
here.
